♥Wedding Dresses in Color? Do or Don't?
I am sure many of us have seen the episode of Bridezilla where the self proclaimed "trailer fabulous" bride shocks her guests with a red wedding gown.

Is it fabulous and original? Brides doing what fits them the best? Or do you think it is just plain tacky?

In China most brides wear red, it is said to bring good luck. I have seen many Indian weddings and those brides wear a red dress tradtionally also, but seeing as how some of them have many events they get to wear many FABULOUS colors!

Would you wear a bright blue dress if you LOVED it? Do you think white is always right? Do any of you believe that only a "pure" bride should be wearing white anyway? From what I have read white has only been "in" as the color for wedding dresses since the 1800's.

?Here is an old wedding poem?

“Married in white, you will have chosen all right. Married in grey , you will go far away. Married in black, you will wish yourself back. Married in red, you’ll wish yourself dead. Married in blue, you will always be true. Married in pearl, you’ll live in a whirl. Married in green, ashamed to be seen, Married in yellow, ashamed of the fellow. Married in brown, you’ll live out of town. Married in pink, your spirits will sink.”

Does that pink slip mean I am going to sink??? Uh-oh :)

Do what you love. Really unless you are concerned about really offending, like, your whole family or something. Remember you can incorporate color anywhere in a traditional white dress if you want to. Personally I'm having my vows embroidered into the closest layer of my dress in baby blue and just for fun I'm wearing red shoes to show my sassy side.
I've only heard one color not to wear to a wedding (unless you are a goth)--that's black. hope this helps, good luck :)

As you know I'm kinda wearing colour. But personally that's as far as I'd go. I wouldn't want to get married in a dress other than a white one, but that's just me. I think there's something special about a white dress (with a bit of red, lol).

Do it if: you are not offending any one, you don't have super traditional people in your family; you feel comfotable; its your personality; if you wanna WOW your guests.....and of course if IT IS attached to your wedding THEME!
Otherwise do not go for it.

Don't get surprise if in the future wearing color gowns is the BOOM!

I would suggets you to get your guests dressed black and white...or in one color only so you can shine in your color dress and of course attach it to your wedding THEME a damask wed having a color dress should look great; I personally love the THIRD.

NOTE: if you decide to not having a color gown you can always add color to it with a sash; crinoline; shoes; Jewe....etc.
If you decide of having a color dress be carefull choosing it so that you don't look like a Quinceanera!

The only time I've ever seen brides wear a coloured gown is for a second wedding. Also you are correct with Asian and Indian brides wearing red...that is their traditional colour.

I personally love the idea of the white dress with just the touch of colour in either a sash, bow or some trim. I think it's a perfect way to stand out from the bridesmaids too and incorporate your wedding colour into yourself. However to each their own and if it's somthing you love and want to do then go for it.

I say throw in the color!! lol it's a nice change from the traditional white. Even though i am wearing a white dress i am adding a fuschia colored sash to it. LOVE IT!

i read that it was queen victoria that started the whole "new" white wedding dress movement. before that a bride just wore her favorite, or most expensive dress, regardless the color.so if you look at it like that, marriage has been around a long time, the white dress, not really...you go!

hmmmmm....i think people should do what floats their boat!! Now as for that bridezilla episode i thought that dress was tacky. ;o) having colored wedding dresses will be that in thing soon and like one of the other ladies said ask your guests to wear a neutral color so that the attention will be on you and your groom to be. of course adding a little color here and there with the traditional dress is alway nice

I read offbeat bride religiously and very few of those girls actually opt for a white dress, but their weddings are just as exquisite and beautiful as any traditional wedding. I'm definitely having color on my dress- be it either as a sash, or my crinoline, there will be color. haha. I can't imagine having a totally white dress. I'm also wearing colored shoes. Personally, I'm only keeping the white because both of our families are extremely traditional. If I had it my way, I'd have a teal colored, tea length dress.

I am thinking about doing some color in my dress too :)

I like the poem, except leaving out purple because nothing rhymes with it! I think brides should do what they want when it comes to color.

I believe its up to the bride I mean it is our day right?!?!
I had this same arjument with my FMIL. I wanted to wear a cocktail style dress that had puffy Colourful Crinalin out the bottom and it was white with black poka pots. We fought and fought for weeks and at one point she even said she wouldnt contribute a cent to the wedding if i didnt wear a white dress. But my FH talked to his mom and i guess explained why i didnt feel the need to wear white, and 3 mnths later after all of it i found the Perfect (off white) Dress at a goodwill for $25... ($100 after the cleaning) So i will wear my offwhite dress for the Ceremony and reception than after that the Swing dress comes out...I dont really think it matters what u wear or how you wear it As long as your doing it for you. thats all that matters.
The last thing i was is to look back on my wedding day 25yrs from now and wish i did it my way:)

I think this is one of those things that you might look back on and say "what was i thinking?" This is not always the case and if you really love it do it I just would think it over. I like Gwens and the the recent dress Mariah wore...the ones that have the gradual color at the bottom of the dresses.

I think every bride should do whatever they feel in their heart but I would just choose carefully b/c those pictures will last forever!  With that said, that trailer fabulous bride looked a wreck in her red dress!

Wear whatever makes you feel fabulous! Unbride.com has lots of discussions on this subject and a lot of other alternative wedding-type stuff.

Married in red!! I just discovered a really cool website on red wedding dresses, redhotbrides.com  Do what you want and go with the color that best match your skins.  White wedding dresses are really bad for people with pale skin.
