Chocolate Fountain ???'s
HELP!!

I came across this site today about chocolate fountains and that spurred a few questions of my own. What are those of you who are having a fountain planning on using for the guests to dip the goodies into the chocolate(toothpicks are too small)? Also, are you having somebody watch it the whole time it's on? The site suggested that becuase they sometimes clog and sput chocolate everywhere!(scarryy!!) All the scarry things it said kinda make me wonder if it's worth having one. I plan on having it on after dinner's been served a while and maybe only for an hour- does that sound good? I really have no clue about it now!Help!

i haven't used a professtional/rented fountain, but my mom bought a smaller one from linens and things that i used last year for a party.  everybody loved it.  i did not have any issues with sputtering or spraying chocolate, but that may happen if the chocoloate gets too low.  depending on how much chocolate the thing holds you may not have to refill it all night, i didn't.  we found sticks like the one pictured at a craft store.  it's like a toothpick but thicker and about 8" long.  we dipped pretzels, nilla wafers, nutter butters, marshmellows, and a lot of different cut up fruits.  they are not too messy, but i did go to a wedding with one once and my drunk fiance got chocolate all over his sleeve.
hope this helps.

My mom bought a small chocolate fountain we will be having at the reception. I'm using kabob skewers, you can get them from the dollar store or the grocery store, they're long wooden sticks. My grandma will be setting it up for and keeping an eye on it, but she's not going to stand there and watch it the whole time. I tested it out at my parents 25th anniversary in july, and it spits a bit of chocolate around, but it's pretty carefree for the most part, just have something on the table in case guests spill a bit. Trust me it's DEFINITELY worth having it, the guests at my parents anniversary LOVED it. One hour should be perfect, I would maybe wait until an hour or two after dinner to set it up because your guests will probably still be full right after dinner.

We bought a chocolate fountain today. It worked out MUCH MUCH cheaper than renting it. We only paid $80 for it from Party City. The quotes that I got from vendors in my area started at $200 and went up from there (yikes).
We plan to use the wooden kabob sticks just like amcs76. Since we'll be using it at our desert station, I'm hoping 1 of the banquet hall staff will keep an eye on it. If, not we'll figure something out before the day of the wedding. I think my bigger problem would be preventing my MOH and FH from trying to stick their tongue in it...lol.

I love the idea of a chocolate fountain and wished so much that we could have one. My venue won't let us bring in food and a tray with all the dipping stuff is really expensive. One thing the caterer did warn me against is having the fountain in an area where it could catch the wind. Its just like a water fountain and sprays everywhere, so just be careful where you put it. Check out my blog for this really cute strawberry tree I found on the knot the other day!
