When to buy a dress?

How long before the wedding did you buy your wedding dress? My wedding isn't until early June of 2009 but I'm worried about waiting until winter collections come out, will winter collections still have dresses to fit my summer wedding?

I believe you need something like 6-8 months to get your dress in. I have no experience with this yet. This is simply from what I've seen from other blogs etc. My wedding is in May of 09 and I'm going shopping in the next few months.

I only had 6 months from the proposal till the wedding date. So I bought my dress in like a week! They need a few weeks for it to come in and then they will need to alter it over the next several months. I would suggest no later than january for you. Start looking though, you may just find it far enough in advance?!?

Like Kelleigh, I was proposed to less than 6 months before our date. We set our wedding date last January (of 07) and we were casually planning for a year. Then I started hardcore planning in Jan. 08. When David's Bridal had their $99 sale, I went with my MOH. I found a dress and bought it on the spot.  So, for me, I bought my dress approximately 7 months before the wedding. BUT my dress needs a small amount of alterations. If you think you're going to need a lot of alterations, you may need to go sooner. It never hurts to go and try dresses on!

From what I've seen, at all times of the year you can find any type of gown. I'm from Florida so it's like summer all year long, so if all else fails you can come here and find it :)

I went shopping for my dress and was told by one store that it was discontinued and they tried to sell me their floor display dress because it fit me. I told them forget it and then I called the company who told me that they never discontinue their dresses as long as you have the style number. So I found another shop and ordered my dress through them. It took 2 1/2 months to come in. I just need to get my alterations now. Most shops will have dresses in for all seasons so don't worry about "winter or summer" dresses.
