Wedding Invitation
I got my Cuttlebug embosser in the mail today!
So I was reading through a Wedding DIY book last weekend at the bookstore. I decided I wanted to try to emboss my wedding invitations and ordered a Cuttlebug from Amazon.com. I got it in today and LOVE it! My brother's girlfriend is a graphic designer so she will be designing the invitation and printing them for me (extremely excited about this)! And I will add just a little special touch by embossing them once they are printed!

The pictures are just a trail run, not the final product. The paper wasn't cut straight or the embossing folder exactly lined up, so don't look at those things. But I'd love overall opinions.

I'm waiting on another embossing folder that has a leafy branch design and looking for others for possible designs.

What are you doing for reception centerpieces?

I'd love to do flower arrangements on each table, some tall and some short. But I keep asking myself is it worth all the money for only a few hours. I don't want to use silk flowers, so I'm open to ideas.

I love candles but want something to go with them.

Alternative Guestbook
I never liked traditional guest books. It just seems like you would never look at it again and it would be buried in a box somewhere. I found this online at etsy.com and fell in love. It's a poster of a blank tree and everyone puts their fingerprint and signs next to a branch. I can't wait to frame it and display it in our home after the wedding. I just hope everyone "leafs" their prints. I've already recruited some bridesmaids and friends who promised to get it going for me.

I'll try to add close-up pictures later so you can see the actual prints and signatures, but hopefully you get the idea!

Ask a Question
What would you do if you hated everything?
So I am having a mini nervous breakdown and need to vent. The past week or two since we have been looking at hiring a wedding coordinator, I have started to realize that I am not happy with the plans I have made so far for my wedding. It is no one's fault except my own. I was so eager when we first got engaged that I began planning right away. I thought I knew what I wanted and started making plans and booked a reception venue, reserved my family church, booked a photographer and picked my dress. After that I had about a year to do the rest, so I took some time off from wedding planning. Now with about 8 months to go, I need to start getting things done again. Now I realize that what I have planned is far from my or my FH's dream wedding. I would love to cancel everything I have booked so far, but that means losing deposits :-(

Here is what I don't like:
The ceremony is currently going to be at my family church. I did this for all the wrong reasons. I do not really go to this church anymore. I did when I was younger. My grandmother and great great aunt are very active members and I knew it would make them happy. They recently got a new priest, who is kind of strange to me. They also have a new building (the old church was hit by a tornado when I was in college). I do not like the modern architecture of the new church, the angled pews, the concrete floors, etc.) And perhaps my biggest complaint is that with Houston's no-zoning laws, the church is right next door to the liquor store and some of my guests would have to park in the liquor store parking lot because the church does not have enough parking. We have parked in the liquor store parking lot many times growing up but it was always on a Sunday when the liquor store was closed. It never bothered me once, but now it's my wedding and I hate the idea as well as since it is a Saturday the liquor store will be open.

My FH and I sat down last night and really talked about what we would want for our dream wedding. We both agreed on pretty much everything. An outside ceremony, a tented reception with only 100-150 guests max. Well currently we have a church wedding, a pretty formal reception venue complete with chandeliers and fabric covered walls. And to top it off 230-250 guests. AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!

My FH is so sweet and says that the most important thing is that we are married at the end of this. I know he is right and I know things will work out in the end. My thought last night was to keep things the way they are, maybe find a new church though, since that is my biggest complaint. I figure maybe for a 10 or 20 year vow renewal we could plan a small outside ceremony and tented reception like we want.

So I guess my question is what would you do?
Would you find a new church?
Would you cancel everything and lose your deposits ($2000)?
Would you leave things the way they are?

Wedding Planner
About to go meet with a potential wedding planner tonight. I'll let you know how it goes.

3/27/2010 Wedding Planner Update

The meeting went great! Margaret is the wedding planner's name. She is very organized and will do absolutely everything and anything needed of her from now until the wedding. She has connections from previous weddings she's done, she can buy wholesale and she has a eye for details and staying on budget. The only issue is COST!!!

For all of the time and stress she will save me, i know it is worth it, but it's just a lot of money to pay someone. My fiance says we can do it only if I promise that having her will allow me to keep up with my grad school work and grading from now on. I am a huge procrastinator and have been seriously slacking lately and trying to juggle teaching full time, finishing grad school and planning a wedding has been stressful lately. Lots of late nights and grading or turning in assignments at the last minute or ones that I didn't really try my best on.

Anyone else having a wedding planner or thoughts on them?

Wedding Dress
I ordered it!
I finally ordered my dress a few weeks ago, when they had a 15% off sale. I absolutely love my dress and now the hard part.... waiting for it to come in. This was the second dress I tried on at the first store. I liked it at the time, but didn't think it was the one. The more dresses I tried on the more and more I realized that none compared to this one. I found myself looking at the picture on my computer all the time. I went back again to show my mom since the first time it was just me and my sister. My mom loved it more than any others she saw that day too.

I can't decide if I'm going to keep the fan on it or not.... What do you all think?

Please ignore the fact that the sample is way too small. I think it was a size 4.
