Ask a Question
Bridal shower gifts

I am new at this bridal shower stuff so I need to ask a question. My BM's said i should not use any of my gift registries for my bridal shower gifts from my guests. I am not into lingerie at all and I would hate to receive those types of gifts because they will just go to waste, I would prefer to receive gifts for our home because those are the things that my FH and I want because will be moving into a bigger place right before the wedding plus it would save us money on buying new things. The BM's say I should receive only lingerie, gag gifts etc and save the registry for the wedding. I say use the registry and tell the guests on the invitation where I am registered and get the things we need LOL. I have 3 registries and it's plenty to buy on each one. What is your opinion? what have you observed as gifts at showers or what have you received at your own showers? I am so lost on this.

its my understanding that at a bridal shower you recieve things from your registry, more smaller items or people can go together for bigger items... its at the bachelorette party that people get your lingerie and gag gifts.I think your having them on the say day so expect both. The last shower I went to I got her a house coat that said MRS ____ on the back.

I always get a 'home' gift or something from a registry if they have one, the only time I buy lingerie for someone is if it is a bachelorette-type shower.

thanks ladies, My BM's told me if I had a bachelorette party I wouldn't receive any gifts because people don't usually bring gifts for that type of event and if I had a bridal shower I would get the lingerie. I was really confused. deneanrae I would love one of the those robes but I would like a ivory satin one with Mrs with my soon to be last name but I can't find one. I'm going to go with my registry items and a friend of mine also suggested that I do a registry of personal items that I want but I have never heard of that.

Traditionally, a bridal shower was for women whose parents wouldn't give her a dowry, so her friends would get her home items instead. Although the reasons for having a bridal shower have changed, the gift idea hasn't. Your guests should use your current registries for your shower. If your BMs/MoH disagree, ask them to include your top 2 "home" registries as well as whatever they feel is appropriate. That way your guests can choose when they feel is appropriate.

Thanks  purplenat1, That makes more sense to me plus we really need and want the home items. I have decided to include on the invite where I am registered. I took a look at some of the showers on WBC and I told my BM's i saw plenty of home items that other brides received.. Thanks

I am soo scared that someone will give me lingerie at the bridal shower and my mom and my FMIL will be there..how embarrassing!

All the bridal showers I have went to..the gifts were always some type of bedroom toy..or lingerie. So what I decided to do was make a wish list on victoria secret.com. And I added sweat suits, t-shirts, body mists, and lounge wear for around the house..and of course SHOES! lol. my bridal shower date will end up landing on the day after my bday..so it will be a 2 for one!

here is the link to sign up for the wish list:

https://www.victoriassecret.com/commerce/wishlist/index.jsp

it gives you the option to share your wish list..sooo in your bridal shower invites you can make a little card that has the URL for your wish list :)

s00n2bemrsb0lton  I am afraid of that to LOL, and i know how my friends are. The very few showers that I have went to they gave bedroom stuff also. I have seen the wishlist on VS and also JCPenney has one and I think Target does to.Hopefully by the time my wedding comes I will already have most of what I want from all my registries from the shower. That's a great idea what your doing.
