DIY - DIY Veil?

I've been having a look online at veils and have only found a couple I really like, I'm being quite picky just because I want it to be very simple and wispy, long but not too long, on an invisible attachment because I don't like the combs that much... yep fussy as. So I was thinking, how about just make one? I'm a wee bit arty and practical so I could give it ago, find tulle or other material I really like and then wing it a bit. If it doesn't work I can always buy one, but it may help budget-wise as well. I'm fairly sure on what I want but I can't help but keep finding pictures of it! I'm having a wisp veil pinned low on the back of my head and a couple of frangipanis on the side held in with a crystal bead. My hair's fairly long and wavy anyway, curling it slightly will be pretty easy! My lovely friend Anna is doing my hair, she did it for the first school ball I went to at 15 so I completely trust her!

I was tossing up between strings of pearls, single pearl pendants and silver Tiffany's necklaces as presents for my girls, and the simple elegance of silver won out. These are the designs I'm thinking of getting. I've got 3 girls and I'm going to let them choose which one they want.

Okay we may not admit to it all the time but most girls love a good ole crazy-expensive celeb wedding. And you can get a lot of inspiration from the young, rich and styley! These are some I've found that need a bit of a mention but I'm not overly keen on - and in saying that it's good that we don't all have the same tastes otherwise what would make your wedding unique!?

Okay so I'm sick at home and bored as, and found this which was kind of interesting! Aries: Do something wild and funlike play on some swings with the flower girls or jump in a lake (in your dress, of course) and make sure your photographer is around to capture it. I never really thought of having a veil, but I've heard a few times that it's the one thing that really does make you feel like a bride and when I tried on my dress it was true! So veil it is, however finding pics of one I like is a wee mission. I probably because I want something very simple - one layer pinned at the back of my head to just past my fingertips. I keep coming across ones with pearls and ribbons and diamontes or big puffy layers, but it's all just a bit much for me! I'm sticking with the idea of ornate dress = simple everything else as I don't like things too over the top. *additional* I really like birdcage veils and think they're very elegant and sophistocated but don't think it'll suit for the type of beach wedding we're having or with the dress I've got.

Although we get a photography package from the resort I booked one independantly so I get a bigger, better and more creative set from the day, We're getting the usual getting ready, all day, ceremony, reception coverage + presented in an album, dvd and blown up prints. I want to get my girls a necklace as a present, but as well as matching their dresses for the day I want it to be something they like and can wear anytime. The theme is royal blue and gold, but there are touches of silver as well such as in my dress so their necklaces could be either, and I'm also stuck on fresh water pearls as well! Decisions...

I bought a wedding ring over the net without seeing it in person, and although it's a nice ring it does't suit my engagement ring. So I went shopping again (man I love diamond shopping!) and I found this beauty. 1 carat, two-toned, same width of diamonds as my engagement ring, fits perfectly and I love it :D

Nails - To fake or not to fake?

Okay anyone that's read my OTT rant probably knows I'm not amazingly keen on fake nails. But they can look really nice when done properly - however on some people they just look like big fat white and flesh striped paddles. I have a wee fear that I would be one of those people so I'm staying away from french manicures (the really bold ones) for the wedding. I've usually got some sort of random colour or pattern on my nails but I'm trying to find something that suits the day and my dress without being the french polish that EVERYONE choose. Has anyone got any ideas? I don't even know if light pink would suit that well! I guess I'll just have to buy a heeeap of new colours and see what suits me so I can tell the manicurist... what a shame ;)

The jewellery I've decided on is: * of course my gorgeous engagement ring - I know some people don't wear it to the alter, but I am * my Granny's diamond ring, 5 stone London bridge style (over 100 yrs old), about 0.7 carats of South African diamonds (sorry didn't photograph well!) * my swarovski crystal bracelet * my Granny's antique crystal earrings (I like her style!) * Mum's diamond studs - she just doesn't know it yet * my diamond studs Tim gave me for my bday last year I probably won't wear a necklace but there are a couple of options if I change my mind, with the crystal earrings there are 2 matching necklances, one pendant on a silver chain and a full beaded necklace. I don't believe in cheap or fake for special occasions so buying something quickly to match the dress wasn't really an option.

Okay this is just a rant about some of the materialistic stuff that goes with weddings! Now I love the aesthetics of a wedding, it's the most beautiful day of your life and yep there's a lot of attention on you, but some people seem to get more wrapped up in having the biggest and most dramatic that they seem to forget that they're marrying their best friend and the true meaning of their wedding. <--- see what I mean...? Followed by half a dozen merengue bridesmaids, a couple of flowergirls and pageboys, a 5 tier cake, stupidly huge decorations and 7 very sad looking guys in giant penguin suits (probably with peach buttonholes). Am I the only one that feels this way?

I found some more pictures of our resort! A lot of people will look at these and think it's too simple and basic, but I love how natural it is, I hate overdone places and this place suits us perfectly! We have the regular bures as well as hotel rooms inside stand alone safari tents. I love it.

Okay these have to be fairly small and simple because it's overseas + we're on a budget. I've found some cute little boxes that are like stylised frangipanis on top and I'll put 5 chocolate kisses in them instead of the traditional sugared almonds - I want to keep with the meanings of Health, Wealth, Happiness, Long Life and Fertility, although we can delay the last one for 3 or 4 years.
The kisses come from when Tim was starting work really early, I would leave a kiss on his pillow for when he got home.

Music - Usually so overlooked but more important than cakes and shoes to me!

Don't get me wrong I have a shoe obsession and a sweet tooth, but my dress is long so you can't really see my feet and everyone's usually so busy enjoying themselves (and the bar tab) that the cake can be overlooked.
The music for the big day is one of the most important things to me because it will really help set the mood! I'm walking down the aisle to Brooke Fraser - 'Arithmetic', and I've got our first 3 songs sorted:
1. First dance will be to Jack Johnson - 'Better Together' (which was actually the song we had our first dance ever to)
2. Aerosmith - 'Deuces are Wild'
3. Queen - 'Crazy Lil Thing Called Love'
We're more rock than any other sort of genre so any soppy slow love song by a boy band etc is out of the question, I was proposed to after an Ozzy Osbourne concert so I want 'Here for You', as well as ZZ Top's 'Gimmee all your Lovin', KISS 'I was made for lovin you' and so on. And for the beachy theme Bob Marley 'Could you be loved'

I'm having a real problem finding a wedding ring to suit my engagement ring, it has to be two toned with the yellow gold on the bottom and white gold on the top half of the band with at least half a carat of diamonds across the band. Issues! Meanwhile Tim's bought himself 7 bands so far because he can't decide what he likes! I think he's settled on the one on the left. I like it :) I want us to have our bands with matching engraving inside but I'm not sure what to put yet. Hmmm...

Wedding Dress - The serendipity story of my dress!

So I bought my dress! I know it's ridiculously far out from my wedding but I went shopping for fun with my Mum just to try stuff on and tried the first dress and it looked awesome! I wouldn't have even given it a second look in a magazine but it really was so great when I put it on. It's totally not like what I was expecting but I looooove it. Bit ridiculous for a beach wedding, but oh well :) These are the photo, take away the shawl, tiara, gloves, necklace (I'm not a princess LOL) and add the beach and a big smile. One year today!!! I'm thinking about getting the back altered slightly to have lacing instead of a zip, a little nicer and more finished I reckon. Any thoughts?

I think the half up half down curled look would suit me best + would go really well with my dress. I want to pin the veil under the half up part and have a couple of flowers in my hair with crystal pins through them. I hate a deep seated hate for tiaras so that's out of the question!
