A promise ring works kind of like an engagement ring. It is a promise that we will get married. I got it on our 3 year anniversary, and yes it is a diamond!! It's a 1/4 carat heart shaped diamond. So this ring is not actually my engagement ring, once he actually proposes I will have a different one, and I am going to still wear this one (if it fits on another finger) or I plan on saving it for when I have a daughter for her 16th Birthday. We have been together for 5.5 yrs and he plans on getting a certain one and wants to get it for me instead of having to settle for something else and then have to upgrade later. I hope that kind of helped explain what a promise ring is.
