Black Tie event??

so. i really want this wedding to be the best it can be OBVISOULY.. and we really are putting a lot into this.. this is not a cheap wedding by any means.. I've been to weddings that says "formal event" on it and people still show up in pants and lozy clothes. i feel like if we are celebrating like this i think the guys should all be in dress pants and i dont see why woman cant get dressed up for a day

i'm not expecting everyone to get a $200 dress and a new suit so i dont know what to put on the invites.. should i put black tie event so everyone gets the point.. or should i just put formal event

i would put formal dress on the invitation.  BUT you have to remember that everyone has a different view of "formal".  Unless you truly want a black tie event leave it as is and just hope for the best.  Just remember to  not sweat it if someone shows up in less than ideal wedding wear.

So I'm in the same boat.  I decided to change it from formal to black tie.  Once my fmil suggested "well, if anyone comes in a sundress i'm sure it'll be a nice sundress..."   I realized from that moment that I needed to put black tie.  Also, since i've been to weddings where the girls are in casual slacks and a button down shirt.  I just don't think it's formal enough for where my wedding will be.  It may just be me.   I put black tie on our website & i'm going to put formal on the invites.

I think  i'd rather have people over dressed than under dressed. and really there isnt over dressed for our wedding its over $70 a head.. to me the least they can do is dress nice for it. every wedding i've gone to i dress the best i can.  but i cant  put that on the invites so they get what i'm saying!! ha ha.. maybe i'll just go put "black tie" on the invites. people that may show up in less than acceptable attire are just not having respect for the bride and groom i guess ???

I'm curious about the time of day people have chosen to get married. I hate being rushed, so I'm ...
