Ask a Question
cake tips

So we got the budget on my cake from my Mom last weekend so I scheduled our cake tastings! Yum! My wedding Planner's main advice was to ask if they freeze the cake beacuse they make it farther in advance or do they make it close to the wedding and not freeze it. Do any of you have any other advice on questions to ask or things to look for? We are tasting in 2 weeks when my MOH is in town...thanks ladies!

It's always good to ask if the servings includes the top tier or not. Some places will bake you a fresh top tear at your 1st anniversary for free thus meaning they serve your top tier at the reception.

I also like to ask what flavors are the most popular, whats the biggest catastrophe they've ever had and how long they have been making cakes. None of these answers help with the tasting or planning per say but they are interesting to hear the answers.

I met with 3 different cake people before I made my decision...so it's interesting to compare.

Hmmm...

- Whether they deliver the cake or not; also, if this has an additional charge

- (if they're delivering) do they have additional icing onhand for touchups in case of accidents during transition

- do you schedule more than one wedding on a day/weekend?

Your post got me thinking, and I did a bit of research on cakes. Here's an article that I think has some great practical advice. http://www.thebigday.com/CakeFAQs.asp
