Wedding Invitation
How much is too much for invites?

I'm all for DIY projects, but not for my invites. I believe that wedding invites can really set the tone for the wedding. I just wonder how much do people traditionally pay for invites. We will be sending out 80-100 invites, but the ones I really love are $6 per invite set (so you can do the math). I know that's a lot of money on invites, but I really love them and the FH likes them. I just want our guest to be WOW'd by everything pertaining to the wedding.

What are your thoughts? How much are you paying for invites? I was going to go through Vista Print, but I don't know.

Hey DiVa...Im in the same category. I want my invites to POP!!!!I believe it will define your wedding setting ..I was thinking abt purchasing from cardandpockets.com to get my pocketfolds...and find someone to custom design my invitations, response cards, maps etc and have them printed through Kinko's or Vistaprint..... Decisions...Decisions........Hopfully with this idea in plan I will pay less than $150.00 for what I want.

That is the dilema I am facing now as well. I want "NICE" invites, but I also don't want to pay the nice price that goes with sending out 150-175 of them. My orignal budget was $250 for invites, but as I think about it that would be money that was not spent well. I am having a custom design made and will use Minuteman Press or Kinkos to print them as well. Depending on what type of printing you are getting the price will increase as well. Also,  keep in mind that after the wedding most people just throw them away.....

It really depends on what quality and what comes with the invitation whether or not $6 is a good value- if it's a heavy cardstock, letter press invitation that comes with a reception card, RSVP and possibly a pocketfold, $6 is a pretty good deal imo. Personally, I'm not fussy with invitations- so long as it gives me a good idea of all the info i'll need to know, then it can be as fancy or as simple as you want. I really loved my invitations- they were extremely simple, Walmart print at home with an opaque boarder. The only decoration was the blue ink and the fonts I used to print them and the envelope liners. Everyone gave us lots of compliments on them and said it was refreshing to receive such a simple invitation for a change.

I LPVE pocketfold invites and I was not willing to pay $6-$10 for an invite. I am making my pocket fold invites for $2 a peice and I have 200 to make.

If you are not using pocket fold invites I think Visa print or Etsy is one of the cheapest places to order them from!

Thank you all for your comments. You all make some very valid points. I'm glad to know that it's the going rate for invites, at least I know they aren't ridiculous prices. The FH and I have a lot to think about. He is so not into DIY projects, and he would rather pay someone. I don't know if I can really do the kind I like though, and I definitely want the pocket fold. The kind I like are of very high quality. It has a very nice gloss look to them with a belly band.

futuremrschambers- That's a really good idea, and I'm sure that it will be a lot less expensive. I might have to check-in with you for the invites.

fairytalebride- I love scroll invites, and I think that will go extremely well with your theme.

I probably paid too much for our invites but I don't regret it. They turned out amazing and were exactly like I wanted them to be! I to feel like an invitation can set the whole tone for a wedding. We paid $350 for 60 invitations. We only have 100 guests, remember you only have to send one invite per couple.

I too have ordered my invites like your from cardsandpockets.com and I paid $1.89 a set with Printing included in the price!!!

I was getting Quoted $6 - $8 an invite and I was not willing to pay for that!!! espeically knowing that most people just throw away the invite.

I really think you should give them a try.

And they are Super nice and helpful

we paid $100 for 250 invites and then another $50-$75 on ivory envelopes! Hope this helps! I had my sister design my invites in photo shop and then we ordered them from printplace.com, the quality was GREAT and the invitations looked wonderful!

I see a lot of us do think that invites set the tone and are paying a little more. I think we are going to set aside extra for the invites. I want our invites to be above the average wedding invite. Since we do have the time and money.

Always a tough decision! My original budget was $300-350 and we ended up spending double that unfortunately just because our invitations were so unique, involved so much detail, needed to be printed in English AND Spanish plus the amount of actual physical labour to put them together.

Our invitations worked out to be about $11 per invitation :\ which is SO MUCH MONEY considering we only sent out a little over 50!  Like you said "invitations can set the mood of the wedding" and are something people (hopefully) look back on and not just throw away... Sooo with that being said I guess it just depends on what you want the finished product to look like.  I would also suggest looking into vistaprint or Michaels as they have a pretty wide selection!!

An eBay shop that does professional laser printing on high quality, heavy card stock, with a semi gloss finish. I ordered my save the dates from them and am ordering 100 pocket fold invites for $219. That includes all printing, invites, RSVP cards, pocket fold envelope, reception cards and all outer envelopes. I am really impressed with their customer service as well. Worth checking out!

elyiecia- Yea that was a lot for the amount of invites you are sending out. I don't want to spend more than $5 per invite set, so I'm still shopping around.

pemelia- Thanks so very much, I will definitely look into them. That price sounds very good :-)

Those are BEAUTIFUL!!!

My thoughts...I'm pretty convinced I could make those for less than half price. I personally could not afford to pay $600 for invitations, so that would be my only option. But if the budget could have it, I'd definitely go the easy way and order them. (Gorgeous color btw!)
