Dress Shopping....PLEASE GIVE ME TIPS!

Hey Girlies,

I am going wedding dress shopping for the very first time this Saturday, and I am super nervous, and a little excited. I'm only going to bring my mom.....she knows BEST :-)

Please give me any suggestions or tips. I know the style of dress I like, and I have pictures on my phone to show them. I'm going to 3 different dress boutiques in the Atlanta, GA area....is that enough? Should I go to more than 3? I don't even know what a realistic budget is for a dress? My mom, fiance, and aunt are willing to pay for it, but I don't know what price range is ok. I'm the only child, and my mom always spoils me, but this wedding is costing a lot and I don't want to ask for too much. My dad is not in my life, so my mom and FH are paying for the entire wedding. Out of all the dresses I like, the most expensive one is $1200....should I make that my budget?

Is this too early to go dress shopping? My wedding isn't until March 2012...
Should I wear heals?
Should I have my hair pulled back (that's how it will be for the wedding)?
Should I wear/bring my bridal jewelry?
Should I wear a strapless bra (since I want a strapless dress) lol?

OMG, I am a nervous wreck right now. I really hope this goes well.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

hahahaha i havent started my dress shopping either but from what ive read the number of shops doesnt really matter as long as you find the one you really love which could be in the first shop! but its important to try others too soo u dont have that feeling of maybe there was something better.... not sure about budgets coz  everything here is overpriced LOL
so,
-no its not too early my weding is in May and am already looking(internet lol)
-not sure about the heels but i dont think its necessary you can go with the heels when u find the one and need to go for fittings... imagine waring heels the whole time while looking for a dress? girl!!!!
-its you can have ur hair pulled back then do it , you would have a better idea
-dont think its necessary to bring the bridal bling either youll have an idea plus i dont think its feasible...
-YES on the bra and gorgeous panties! remeber you will be getting naked in front of strange people (Maybe) so def on that.

dont be nervous and hve fun! mwah

My best suggestion for you, it is great to have an idea of what you want when you go in to the store, but TRY ON EVERYTHING! Seriously, I cannot tell you how many of us thought we knew exactly what we wanted, and then fell in love with something completely different! Keep an open mind, and have fun trying it all on! Three stores is great for one day. If you do not find the dress of your dreams, you have plenty of time to go again later! I think now is a good time to be trying stuff on! As far as heels or not, are you comfortable on heels? Do you want to wear heels on your wedding day? if yes, then bring them with you! Definitely pull your hair back if you'll have an updo for the wedding. If you already have your jewelry, and you for sure do not want to change it, then bring it. You can wear a strapless bra, but most bridal salons will provide you with a bra top in your size that fits best with the dresses you are trying, for instance, my dress has a very low back, my strapless bra would have shown with it, but the shop had a bra for me that didn't. Most of all, have fun!!!!  Don't be nervous, just be excited!!!!!!!

How exciting!  I haven't gone dress shopping yet and my wedding is in  April 2012 and people are asking why haven't i gotten a dress yet!  Remember, it takes several months for your dress to come.  Once it comes in you'll need time for alterations, etc.

When i go shopping, Im not taking heels or jewelry..,I'll take that stuff when i go for fittings.  It might be a good idea to have your hair pulled back so you can see how it looks.

If you plan on going to different shops, make sure they have different designers so you aren't seeing the same stuff over and over.

And yes, wear a strapless bra and nice undies =). Have fun!

Like the PPs have said, have an idea of what you'd like, but try on as many different styles as you can--I went for my first time on Monday, and exactly what I though wouldn't work on me, ended up being the style I want/need to make me feel the best about myself.
Aside from that, take your heels with you, if you'd like.. it'll give you an idea of length, and all that jazz. A strapless bra is best, and make sure you wear underwear that cover--no one wants a thong/bum in they're face when they're trying to zip/tie you up. :P
I wore my hair down, but took an elastic with me. As for headband/etc., that might be a good idea to take, as well. They usually have veils/headbands/tiaras at the salons, but if you have one you want to match, then.. yeah. :]

Have fun, and good luck!

my advice is to be optimistic!
I wanted a blinged out gown, but after trying on like 25 of them and not loving anything the manager suggested a simple gown. I ended up with a sottero (melissa brooch) and it has like no bling (minus the brooch, LOL).  I would totally say dont count anything out because you never know what you could fall in love with.

dont bring jewelry - you might change your mind after finding a certain dress....
strapless bra - a must
I dont  support buffalo panties, LOL... but you could do boy shorts

Oh yes, and have fun! I only brought my Momma too and was so happy I did,

aaaaaa my love is going dress shopping!!!!

ok, make sure your hair is done, make up, but not too much because you don't want to get it on the dress when you out it on. you also might want to wear nice panties (no thongs) you don't want to make the consultant uncomfertable lol. not to early at all girlfriend! bring pictures of dresses you have in mind and that you would like to try on. if you see a dress that might have a possibility of you liking it but doesn't look so good on the hanger... try it on anyway! it looks totally different on you! love ya! can't wait to hear all about it!

My Biggest advice: dont settle!!! my mom was really pushing for this certain dress (and you're smart to only bring your mom), but mom's can be wrong too!! If it doesnt give you that "OMG this is my dress" feeling then dont get it!!! also if you think it is "the one"...sleep on it....you might change your mind when you wake up. thats what happened for me (which is in my adventures of wedding dress shopping).
*like the other girls said wear good pantie, wear the strapless bra, try on more than the style you think you want (i tried on ball gown, full A-line, slim A-line, and mermaid) because you might change your mind plus when else will you try on all these white dresses?, try on dress other people suggest and be open minded (you might just like it), most of all have fun (my had it's moments, but i had the time of my life and would do it again)!!!

Thank you luckybride10. LoL at buffalo panties. I call them granny panties. I plan to wear boy shorts though. I definitely will try on different styles.

Yes, I am finally going!!!!!!  Ummmmmm, Sabrina....you have a new name now? Why wasn't I notified :-( Thanks, I didn't even think about a little make-up....I will definitely put a little purple eye-shadow on lol. I'm getting my eye-brows done tomorrow, I just want to look and feel good when I try on these dresses. I will definitely have mommy take pics, and post about my wedding dress shopping adventure. Love ya too hunni XOXO :-)

1bellabride- I am so scared of not loving a dress my mom loves. I always want to make my mommy happy because she has sacrificed so much for me. I can only pray and hope that we both fall in love with the same dress. Thank you for advising me to sleep on it. I am worried that I may fall in love with a dress, but fall out of love with it by the time my wedding comes around. I guess I shouldn't look at dresses once I make a decision. I will definitely make the most out of this experience :-)

*****Than you so much girlies....I think the nerves are going away and the excitement is taking over, YAY******

OMG I'm sooo excited. I DID look at dresses after I picked one but things changed so it turned out well. Unfortunately, I worked at a bridal store so I tried on every dress we could squeeze me in. My only regret is that I did not buy my corset before trying on all those dresses. I ended up getting a steel boned corset AFTER ordering my dress and my size changed drastically because my bust went up and my waist went down. Once I got the corset I went looking twice and found the shape that worked with the corset and it was drastically different. Another thing is I'm a heel person and didn't bother worrying about shoe heights and it worked fine. If you're not, find the exact shoe you want to wear or at least the brand because the cut will be similar. I've had a few brides come in the day or week before the wedding looking for a different shoe to wear.

Can't wait to see the pictures.
