Keeping God 1st in Our Marriage - God's Knot- Cord of 3 Strands - GLAMDIVABRIDE's Purple Wedding by Color Blog

HAPPY WEDNESDAY,

For our unity ceremony we wanted to find something that was special and would incorporate God since he has blessed us so much and he is the center our relationship, our lives, and soon...OUR MARRIAGE!

We both decided on God's Knot- The Cord of the 3 Strands. We love the symbolism of it and we haven't seen it done at any other wedding that we have been to.

Here is the information our Pastor will read at the ceremony:

The braiding of the three stands demonstrates how [Andrew] and [Kayla] are joined by God in marriage. Each strand holds a special meaning.

The Gold Strand symbolizes that the Lord Jesus has been invited by [Andrew] and [Kayla] to the position of authority in this marriage.

The Purple Strand represents the groom. As a new creation in Christ, the majesty of the Groom is represented in purple. As [Andrew] loves his wife and submits himself to the Lord, the Lord in turn will demonstrate His great love in the marriage.

The White Strand represents the bride. Having been cleansed by salvation in Christ, the purity of the Bride is represented in white. As [Kayla] honors her husband and submits herself to the Lord, the Lord in turn will nurture and strengthen the marriage.

Ecclesiastes 4:12 reads, Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Matthew 19: 5-6 says, "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be untied to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. So, they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate."

Today, [Andrew] and [Kayla] have been woven together by God as ONE in marriage!

*We also love the fact the it incorporates 2 of our wedding colors*

OMG I love that girl! I think that is a great idea! I would love to do that, but I think it will be out of the "schedule" of our church ceremony. But it's still interesting concept. Where can buy find this?

I'll ask my priest .. it won't hurt to ask lol!

I love this! We are going to do it as well. I saw this done at a wedding i attended when i was 10 years old and then i saw it in my Favorite movie "Not Easily Broken"(which is a wonderful movie for engaged/married couples to watch by the way).

In the movie the character played by Taraji P. Henson & Morris Chestnut began to have serious marital problems that almost end in divorce. The pastor asks Taraji's character "Has God been your third strand?" - Thats my favorite part! Its so pivotal!

I would love to see more of this being done at weddings, Its a beautiful concept to incorporate in any ceremony :-).

That was a good part and she had to put momma in her place. I loved that movie, and I think they did a different version of the Unity Cord. I believe the pastor placed the cords over them. It is a very good movie. Another good movie is Fire Proof. We had to watch both while we were going through Premarital Counseling and we discussed them. Both are very good movies for Christian Couples.

I agree sweetestaboo. I would love to see more couples do things to incorporate God into their wedding ceremony.

This is a wonderful idea.. I have never heard of it before!!! If you don't mind I think I would like to incorporate this in my wedding as well.. God, has brough us from a very long way, and without him we would not be where we are today!!! I want God to bless not only my marriage but, for every WBC bride and bride-to-be because he has blessed us in so many different ways, and I think this would be so perfect.

I am going to talk to my pastor concerning this. This post has touched me to day

Dangit, Kayla, this post made me cry, lol. Good tears of course. I think this is absolutely beautiful, and I love how it touched so many brides to be!!!! Funny, I thought when I first joined WBC, I was just going to get ideas. Since then, I have gotten so much encouragement and support, its amazed me. You have been one of my faves and I just wanted to say thank you for that. :)

No matter all the stress that I have endured planning this wedding...I just think how did I accomplish so much with so little, and I realize it was God :-)

wow!! this is amazing! When God takes the center of our lives nothing can ever destroy what God builds and i mean nothing! this is an amazing idea and i can already see the Glory of God coming down. Those are not just mare words but they are a wonderful covenant you are making with God as Husband and wife and God honours such.
