Ask a Question
Are Wedding Checklist Books and Planners helpful?
I went to Barnes and Nobles and saw a large amount of wedding planning books, checklists and diarys..is any one using these and finding them helpful? my friend said she had absolutely no use for her planner...however i am on a budget and at this point VERY unorganized.. i know i need to get a move on with the planning ...im constantly telling everyone "oh i have plenty of time" when in reality i should probably get started im the "ultimate procrastinor"..everyone keeps saying it will be here before you know it...

I bought one and ended up tossing it... taking some pages out of the one I bought and putting them in a 3 ring binder. I bought a clear plastic page that holds business cards,a bunch of just plain plastic sheet covers and some pocket folders.. so far so good and it works fabulously for everything

This is the advice my MOH gave me- she knows her stuff:
Get address for everyone as soon as possible and get their phone numbers so you can double check with them before the invites are sent.
Buy lots of weddings magazines, cut out things you like and paste them on notebook paper and keep in a binder. Then, anytime you get to decision time on something, you whip out the notebook and have an illustration

My sister bought me a big white binder planner from target, i printed 2 planning guides and picked my favorite things and put them in there and haven't used it since. Everything is on my laptop. I have an excel spreadsheet with everything i need, all the pricing, vendor comparisons, budget, to do list etc. I doubt I'll be using too much of the paper resources.

i never really use mine but if you go to theknot.com you can budget everything for your wedding plus keep a checklist of what you have to do which is extremely helpful.

I suggest to use the website: www.ourweddingday.com
they have the most complete checklist.

There is also www.ezweddingplanner.com this one has a nice table seating planner as well as a good address database! I am using both and it's so.....helpfull! Good Luck!

I did buy a planner in all the excitement and it suggested to me to do something similar to what fabulousmrsklein said. You get a binder and folders for everything you want to categorize and some plastic sheets and tada!
I also found excel really helpful. I downloaded a template for events that allows you to put the estimated and actual cost for everything and it adds each section up for you so you get an idea of where you're at. They also have one for guest lists where you fill out their addresses and other info and check them off when they've RSVPed.

Tons of comments, but no one mentioned my favorite. I live, breath and sleep with this book (often because I fall asleep while planning!). The book I like is "The Everything Wedding Organizer; Checklists, calendars, and worksheets for planning the perfect wedding" which you can get for pretty cheap from amazon.com.

Other than that, I just use internet resources.

I heard about them from someone at my doctor's office. It sounded like a good idea, and there were tons to choose from. I didn't think I'd use mine too much at first, but now it's crammed full of things I've ripped out of magazines, business cards, reminders, lists, etc. etc. It's been very helpful and I got one with a pretty blue cover on it. My only regret is that I should have gotten a bigger binder :)
