Ask a Question
Plastic plates for cake....is that tacky?!
I am having heavy appetizers for my reception because my wedding is at 2:00 and I can't afford an expensive sit down meal.
We are having the reception downstairs at the church to save on cost. The church has glass plates to serve our lunch on but they do not have glass dessert plates. Would it be tacky to have glass plates for the meal and then have those clear plastic plates for the cake? Let me know ladies! Thanks :) |

Grooms Cake
Tarheel fan
I thought I would let Steven pick out his own cake instead of it being a surprise. He has been so accepting to every decision I have made so why not give him a chance to have his own cake. He's the type of guy that says, "Honey it's your day...you do whatever you want and I will be fine with it" So I said okay! haha
He is a CRAZZYYYY tarheel fan. I mean the kid bleeds baby blue. So, of course he wants a tarheel cake. He is leaning more towards a cake in the shape of a foot. It's cute. We took our part I engagement pictures in Chapel Hill so I will put some photos in frame to go around the cake for an added touch. |

Wedding Decoration
Damask
We are going to go with table overlays that I found on ebay for $6.99 a piece. We have regular white table cloths but I wanted to add an extra pop.
For the centerpieces, I am doing a small square mirror in the center that I found at hobby lobby (btw for some reason beveled is cheaper) They are $4.99 a piece. I am buying candle votives to go on each corner. For confetti I am using clear diamond confetti and black and white rose petals sprinkled around. Simple but elegant. Around the gift table and cake table I am buying cylinder vases and putting leftover roses from our centerpieces into the vase and adding water. Put a floating candle on top for elegance. |

Wedding Hair Style
I hate my hair up so I decided to go with it down and curly. I will have a small rhinestone headband so I think it will turn out nice.

Wedding website
I created a wedding website and that has been the best investment so far!
www.ewedding.com is a great tool for brides that want to cut costs on sending save the dates and RSVP's. Keep in mind, after the first month it is $9.99 to keep certain features running. The lowest price is $4.99 but does not have the RSVP feature....figures!! Once guests have RSVP'd it alerts you and you can actually import the file to your computer. All the guests that are coming/not coming will appear in an organized spreadsheet! This is wonderful for those brides that like to be organized. You can add different themes, songs, and pictures to make it personable! |

Wedding Invitation
DIY Invitations
I have these invitations on Davids Bridal. Here is the link: http://www.invitationsbydavidsbridal.com/Wedding-Invitations/DIY-Invitation-Kits/2947-DB50046KIT-Black-Damask-Border--DIY-Invitation-Kit.pro
I found a coupon online that saved me 30% on the invitations as well. They come in packages of 50 so I bought two. Total cost was about $45 including tax! I just got them in the mail last night and they are really nice quality. I thought the paper would be flimsy but its a nice card stock. On the front of the invitation I am going to punch holes and feed a ribbon through. I will use my laser printer to print these to save tons of money. It comes with small "note cards" that open up but I am going to use these RSVP's and just cut the back of the card off. With the RSVP's I am going to list my wedding website so that the guests can go online to view all of our wedding info, directions, pictures, our registry, and there is an RSVP feature on there. For folks that don't have access to a computer, they can still send the RSVP card back to me with a stamp. Since the majority will RSVP online I will not provide the stamps. I think it is a waste of money when you can RSVP online. |

Wedding Flowers
low budget flowers
I knew I couldn't afford to go to a florist to get flowers. It would have been about 500-1000 just for flowers that will die!
I researched silk flowers online and had made my mind up that I was jut going to have to use fake. Then one day I ran across a blog that I woman had online about flowers on a low budget. She said you should try Costco or Sam's Club for wholesale flowers. So, I looked into it. To my surprise they have their own Wedding Collection. Granted it is only for white and red roses but I was lucky enough that I was planning on using white roses anyways. You can get the whole wedding party collection for about $300. It includes everything you would need for your special day. Here is the link: http://www.samsclub.com/sams/shop/product.jsp?productId=prod800008&iid=Category|TOPSELLER|Wedding%20Flowers|White%20 Wedding%20Collection%20-%2017%20pc. I made sure to read the reviews from past customers and they were pretty much all positive. One thing I did learn was if you have your wedding on Saturday you need to have your flowers here by either Wednesday or Thursday so that they flowers can bloom to their full size. When they come to you, they are tight rose buds. I am also using Sams club for the centerpieces. I am getting their bulk white roses. You can get 125 rose for around 100 dollars or so. When arrive, use those paint buckets and pour flower food and water and let them sit for a couple of days. Once the wedding rolls around they should be full bloom! For a filler I am also getting babies breath so that the bouquet looks nice and full. You can find cheap vases at the dollar store. Use those diamond confetti pieces to put in the bottom of the vase and add water. You could even put a small light on the bottom and cover up with stones for an added light effect. |

Wedding Favors
Chocolate Covered Pretzels
So, I had been tossing ideas around for the cheapest favor I could find. I found this neat idea online to do chocolate covered pretzels and make your own sticker labels to go on them that say "We tied the knot!" Isn't that just cute....get it.....pretzels are in knots....we tied the knot.
Items you need: 1. Cellophane bags. I found some online on ebay for 100 for 5.00 2. Ribbon to tie the bags and a rubber band to go underneath to make sure the bag is secure. You can buy ribbon from the dollar store. I bought curling ribbon. 3. Favor labels-i found these on walmart.com they are made by avery. They are the standard round label. I found a template online that already have the circles pre made. All you need to do is add text or a design and print. Labels: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Avery-High-Visibility-Round-Laser-Labels-2-1-2-White-300pk/14939089 here is the template: http://www.avery.com/avery/en_us/Templates-&-Software/Templates/Labels/Round-Labels/Round-Label-12-per-sheet-5294_Microsoft-Word.htm I am going to finish designing them tonight and see how they turn out! My wedding isn't until May so I won't buy the pretzels until probably May 1st. I am going to a local grocery store to get yogurt and chocolate covered pretzels! I'm excited! Hope this can be of use for someone that is looking for a cheap way out. And who doesn't love salty and sweet?! enjoy! |

Wedding Dress
love love love this dress...in white!
This is my dress! I found it at Bridal Mart in Burlington, NC. The designer is Davinci style 8220. I had been looking at dresses online for months before I found the style I liked. Everyone told me not to pick one out online because it might not look good on. Well, it did! I only ended up trying on like 3 dresses before I made my decision that this was the dress I wanted! I spent about $600 on it including tax. Pretty good for the quality and bead work. Even though my budget suffered, It was either splurge on the dress and cut something else or get a cheaper less quality dress. I went with the former! Bridal Mary called me the other day that the dress just came in....I ordered it the day after Thanksgiving so it took a while but I'm so excited to try it on again! We are going this weekend!!! Crossing my fingers for only minor alterations!

Wedding Cake
Black and White Damask Cake!
So, I decided to go outside of traditional cake and mix it up a bit. This cake is definitely not the usual white cake you see at most weddings. I've always loved the black and white damask design so I wanted to incorporate that in the cake. A friend of the family is making the cake and she found the exact stencil online: http://www.culinarystencils.com/product/C406.
I've added some different photos so you can see the different types. I really like the first one but in a square design. There are tiny little pearls that go around the edges of each tier. I am doing white roses on top with a monogram cake topper: http://www.partycity.com/product/monogram+c+cake+topper.do?sortby=ourPicks&size=all&from=Search That is the cheapest topper I could find! |
