Ask a Question
Has wedding dress overexposure made you feel nothing's unique enough?

I have watched so many episodes of Say Yes to the Dress, Rich Bride, Poor Bride, and a Wedding Story (and some others) that I now feel like wedding dresses are all the same. I know that's not at all true, but I don't want to look like every other bride on my wedding day. Do any of you feel that way? I think getting my dress in ivory or champagne will make a big difference, but I guess that remains to be seen....I will have to see what happens when I start seriously looking for dresses.

The dress in the picture is the one I loved the most, although the model does it no justice. It looked much much better on me (and I'm no trying to be vain, in fact, I'm overweight), and that is one of the things I'm trying to keep in mind for next time I go dress shopping.

I agree, I feel most wedding dresses are the same. I went with Ivory and I am getting it made. It will be mermaid as EVERYONE in my home town has a strapless ballgown. So hopefully i will look original. I think how you accessorize will make a differance too!!! That dress is beautiful too. Dresses always look better on real brides. You can see the sparkle ect!!!

One thing to remember is that you won't look like every other bride on your wedding day.  White is white...but its the design, style, and how it looks on you that makes all the difference.  If you took 2 brides with the same dress, they would still look different from one another because of how it looks on them and how they feel with it on.  I love the idea of a dress other than white.  I especially like the champagne, because like white, ivory is common.  The white dress is only a fairly recent tradition anyway.    With this being said, I too feel white is way too traditional and common;therefore, I am having a RED dress.  Good luck!

I just reread my previous post and I don't want to sound like I am bashing anyone's choice of dress.  I think any wedding dress is beautiful, regardless of style and color.  I am still looking for my dress and have come across a lot of wedding dresses that I think are gorgeous, just not my style.  Also I forgot to mention that I love that dress you picked out.  Go with whatever makes you feel good!

i think the most important thing is to find a gown that match your personality. The way you bring yourself through the dress you're wearing is what is going to make the difference :)

i think you can make a dress 'yours' by accessories like wearing funky shoes & jewelry instead of the typical diamonds & white shoes.

I agree too but then its weird because ten of us could try on the same dress and it could look different on every one of us and  probably only suit one or 2 of our body shapes. But some dresses can look very like the next one.
