I did exactly the same thing- my favourite one that I tried on was nearly 6k!! I sat down and started to seriously think about how i'd feel buying a dress for 6k and decided against it. I've found plenty of gowns I like and a few I'm considering that are well under $1000 (without alterations, veil etc.) You could try Watters, Impression, Casablanca, Alfred Angelo, Mori Lee, Jasmine, Allure, Eden Bridals,  & Raylia's on the expensive side, but they're cheaper than couture gowns

All in, I (well my mom spent) $2,200...$1800 for the dress, $400 for the veil.

My father's gift to me was my gown it's a Lazaro couture gown originally $6,000 but I found it at encore bridal (once wore couture dresses all in mint condition) for $1,700. I love it!

the best dress search engine is on the www.theknot.com, you have to register(free) but you plug in the sillouette(spelling) you want, the price range, and or designer and lots will pop up!!

I went to a bridal boutique (Circle Park Bridal) that had the most beautiful dresses (couture too!). It was dresses from previous years, but none were used or anything. I got my Allure Couture dress for $750 and the original cost was $4,000!!!! By the way, the atmosphere was great there! Price was really important to me so it was perfect for me!

I'm trying to stay under 1000. I tried on one that I loved that was $3400  and my second favorite is 2400. Damn sales girls are good at their job! I might end up having one made

I got mine for $550, but with taloring it will be around $650. I guess I got a pretty good deal!

I got mine for $288.  With alterations it will be a little over $400.  I got mine from a bridal shop, and it's an Eden dress.

Well, I saw mine in a store for like over $930 something and I bought it from house of brides for $565. I would neva pay over a grand! I would rather use that extra money for an upgrade on the honeymoon.

I got mine on the cheap too. Alfred Angelo dresses in the UK go for around £800-1200 ($1600-2400) but I managed to get mine from an authorised AA dealer (from Ebay) from Chicago for $499. With customs tax and postage it was still around $700. My veil was another Ebay bargain however my lingerie is a splurge at $400 but that's my little pressie for my husband.

I am so excited about my dress! It is completely discontinued and I found it at this ritzy boutique . It was hanging amongst the other dresses and there was only one and it was in my size! Therefor - i think it was fate. :) the first number on the tag shocked me to death - $3,000 !! and  then the one underneath in red was Much better ... i got it for $390.00 ... life is great!

My dress is $959.00. It's from alfred angelo. I think there are plenty of beautiful dresses for reasonable prices. It all depends on what kind of style you want. I told myself if i am going to be spending a lot on my dress i am going to spend it on something i absolutely love! Luckily I got a great price on my dress.

I got mine on ebay it is my dream dress it is so pretty-it is from china hand made I was worried until it came in but it is well made and gorgeous look at my site and see my dress

I went through a local bridal shop and found mind for $800. I was definitely opposed to David's Bridal with how commercial it is now, but didn't want to spend over $1000. The designer is Allure...I like a lot of their dresses. I think the website it allurebridals.com

I am not completely sure how much mine cost since my grandma bought it, but I think that it has to be around $600 which I didnt think that it was too bad!! I still have to have it altered and I have to get accessories which she is also buys for me!!! I love my grandma!!

Hi, I too have expensive taste so I understand. I just wanted to say that even though it is one of the most special days of your life....there is no reason to spend that much on a dress you will wear for one day. Take 1000-1500 and get a beautiful dress and take the other and get your wedding party some gifts or help them pay for some of the things they need to prepare for your wedding. You could even do something EXTRA for your wedding like get a carriage ride to the church or pay for a barbecue or picnic the next day so you can enjoy your guest before they go back home  (if from out of town). Whatever you decide I wish you luck!

I got mine for 465.00  and I love it for an outdoor wedding!  Very simple gown with no beading at all

my was almost $1000...i knew i didn't want to go to david's bridal because they didn't have the type of dress i was looking for.  I knew when i tried on my dress that it was the one for me...check it out on my page

I wanted a specific gown and when I found out it was no longer being carried because of issues with the supplier, i was crushed. That's until I spoke with the shop owner. She talked with her current supplier of a simiar line of gowns and they are going to duplicate it for $700 customized to my measurements and specifications!

My dress is from Davids Bridal. It is only 600.  I was so in love with this dress I didn't want anything else.  I tried on 4 others. as soon as i put it on i knew it was "The" dress.  When I went to purchase it in March they didn't have my size, and had to order it ( I wanted to lay it away because wedding is in Sept.).  So I would have had to pay the full 600.  My best friend said "NO", not now.  I went on ebay, it wasn't there.  I went on craig'slist, and found my dress for 300 and a bustle.  I need no alterations.  omg  I have my baby.  This dress talks to me lololol j/k

Mine was about $5500.00.  I made the mistake of going to a bridal boutique and fell in love w/ an Eve of Milady dress.  My mom bought it ~ I have to pretend I spent less to fully enjoy it because otherwise Id be sick over it 24/7 :)  But it is gorgeous and u only do this once right?

Well.... I found the dress of my dreams from a designer, but actually had it custom made to my exact measurements and got it for ***$160**** from ebay (shipping included)  and it is soooo gorgeous, you couldn't tell if it's not the real thing!
