Hi Ladies!! I've missed you!! This is my first post since December 18th cause my mom flew down here to Alabama from Virginia (which is where I'm from) on the 19th to spend the holidays with us!! We were extremely busy the entire time while she was here, either with Christmas related stuff one day or wedding related stuff the next lol!! I'm really happy that we were able to get two of the really big items checked off of our "wedding list"...my wedding dress and the wedding cake YAY!!
Well, the Monday right before Christmas we had our first appointment with the bakery!! It's a place called Cakes by Judi (yes with an "i" lol) and I've heard nothing but good things about this place and the woman that owns it (Mrs. Judi of course) is just the sweetest little old lady you could ever imagine and she actually runs her business right out of her home because she also has to constantly take care of her husband who has a disability. Anyways, so she's very personable and her prices are really great since it's a home run business rather than a chain store of bakeries or something like that. Anyways, I'm attaching some pics of what our cake will look like...basically it will be a 3-tier hexagon shaped cake with turquoise blue ribbon as the border, and then with stargazer lilies and pearly white chocolate seashells around it too!! It was just my mom and I that went so the bottom and top tier are actually gonna be a surprise for my fiance since we aren't having a groom's cake, and so both tiers will be chocolate (which of course he requested) but the surprise is that it will have OREO filling!!! Oreos are his absolute favorite treat and so I asked Mrs. Judi if there was anyway she could make an Oreo filling, and she said sure it would be simple just by using buttercream icing and then adding crumbled up Oreos in it!! So SHHH don't tell him about it ok??!! lol As far as the middle tier, I still haven't decided 100% but I think it might be an almond flavored caked with strawberry filling. Anyways, so at first I really wanted to have a 4-tier cake but it would've served 200 people and since we're only having 100-120 guests, then we really didn't want to spend extra money for each guest to practically get 2 slices each!! The original quote was $419 (including taxes and delivery) for the 4-tier cake, but then my mom and I decided that it really wasn't necessary to have that many extra servings, so the 3-tier cake ended up being $327 (which fits perfectly into our budget cause I had estimated $350)!!
Anyways, enough about that!! Now onto the even more exciting news!! The Saturday right after Christmas my mom, 2 of my BMs, and I all went dress shopping, which is something that I've been waiting for months to do but I just absolutely didn't want to go without having my mom there with me (cause I'm the only child so I definitely wanted to make sure that my mom was apart of this whole experience with me)!! So the first place we went was called Mister Tuxedo and the lady that owns it was very nice, but apparently it must be a fairly new store because it was really small and she said they're in the middle of adding onto it right now. I only tried on 2 dresses there cause they really didn't have that many dresses to choose from tp begin with. Next stop was David's Bridal and the very first dress I tried on there (which was my 3rd dress overall) was absolutely gorgeous but just a teeny bit snug, so the lady brought me the next size up and it fit perfectly, except for the halter strap being too loose!! The best part of it was the price though....I don't know if it was because it was right after Christmas or maybe cause it was the end of the year and they were trying to get rid of some dresses, but it was originally $699 and I got it for $399 WOO HOO!! I tried on one more dress just to be sure that the first one was "The One" and yes it was!! The other dress was still nice but more expensive, and overall the halter style seems to fit me the best!! Anyways, so it's a David's Bridal style #9E9370 in white, and I'm adding several pictures I've found online of my dress but none of these pics are ME because even though I LOVE my dress, I absolutely HATE all of the pics we took of me in it and also trying on other dresses too!! I'm not the skinniest girl in the world (I wear a jean size 18 and my dress is an 18W YIKES!!), so I hate how HUGE my arms look right now...the dress is very slimming around my waist but that only makes my arms seem to stand out ever more!! And then I had just gotten my hair trimmed the day before and they cut more off then I really wanted them to, and it was like 75 degrees (yes in December!! Hey it's Alabama we're talking about here!! lol) and so my hair looked like crap cause it was all frizzy from the humidity and from pulling dresses on and off over my head!! Anyways, so sorry no pics of me trying on dresses for now but maybe once I get the halter strap altered a bit and try to work on toning up my arms a little, then maybe I'll post up some pics of me in the dress!!
It feels great to be back on WBC and to have 2 of the really big items checked off of my list....although I wouldn't mind still be on holiday vacation a little bit longer lol!! ;-)
