I'm staying here on weddingbycolor.com where the brides are nice and have POSITIVE things to contribute! So here is my story (rant), last night I went on The Knot website to look up different wedding ideas and I decided to go onto the Boards section for the first time...what a mistake! I kid you not, nearly every single post I clicked on there was post after post of brides ATTACKING whoever posted the question. For example:
One girl asked what song the couple should walk in to since they had a "picture perfect couple" theme. Complete with a vintage photobooth, picture frames as place card holders, pictures of them in different places as the table numbers, etc.
This was a response she got! :"Song:Faded photographs
But really, if this theme isn't a great example of AW, I can't imagine what is. As a guest, I'd be laughing like hell at you wanting me to be paparazzi to take pictures of you. I'd be in the bathroom with the other people who refuse to participate.
As a member of BP, I'd be pissed that I was expected to be part of a dog and pony show: putting on sunglasses and striking Vogue poses.
And little picture frames are useless.
You've gone over the line here in your theme. Calling yourselves "picture perfect" is just a tad too precious for me.
Other than that, I love your ideas...." (CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?!)
There was a post on "What was the worst favor you ever received?" They cut down everything from a handmade cd of the couple's favorite songs, to koozies, to picture frames, to ornaments, to candy...(WHO hates candy?!) there really was no pleasing ANY of them!!! I don't even want to know what they would have thought of my Chocolate Personalized Poker Chips! LOL
Another bride asked for some song ideas for her dollar dance and she received nearly 50 responses....and nearly ALL of them were negative and called her "tacky"..and and saying it wasn't "classy" to have a dollar dance (By the way, I think it is Tacky to call someone else Tacky! What bitches!...) you don't want to do a dollar dance..then don't do one..but don't become the queen of etiquette and start shooting off insults at someone because they ARE doing one! She asked for song ideas not if it was OK with them to do one or not!
For the record, I intend on doing a dollar dance at my reception, (GASP!) I know I'm a sinner!!! Seriously, the receptions that I have been to I LOOK FORWARD to the dollar dance, here is a buck-thanks for the shot-take a couple spins around the dance floor with the groom (sometimes the bride!) it's all in good fun!!! RELAX! I'm not saying that I'm not MORE THAN WILLING to dance with all of my guests for FREE and definately will try my best to do so with anyone who wants a full dance, but in reality, I work with 20 cops and I KNOW they wouldn't want to dance for a full 3 minute slow song...but they would be all about the dollar dance...cause hey it IS quick! Besides I'm assuming we won't be playing 200 slow songs and a majority of the slow songs I will most likely be dancing with my new husband! I don't get why so many people are so uppity about the dollar dance, drop the etiquette book for five seconds and have some FUN! =P
Oh and stay at weddingbycolor.com where it's safe and bitch-free LOL!!!
The brides there are very friendly like WBC - it's just that the site is in a different format. I got hooked to PW when I started my planning, then I found WBC! Now I'm hooked to 2 planning sites LOL! :)
I re-read the kinds of comments you saw on theknot boards and I keep wondering why do they have to be critical? Everyone has different tastes, and it's the couple's tastes that matter most. Shouldn't everyone be trying to celebrate with the couple? Sheesh!
Anyway, I'm glad we're here instead ;-)
