wedding dress woes
So I'm planning on wearing my mother's wedding dress but this poses a bit of a problem for three reasons. My parents were married in June so it's a summer dress and we are planning on getting married at the end of December. My Mom got married at age 20 so she was tiny and I'm kinda small but definitely not that small. Third, I have no idea who to trust alterations to around here that can create/ transform this vintage 1960s dress to the idea I have in my head. (haha probably no one since I'm such a perfectionista) But I read somewhere that for every stitch you stitch on your wedding attire, each stitch equals one tear during your marriage...as in, bad luck. So even if I could design and alter this thing the way I need to to fit into it, I don't want the bad karma associated with doing it myself.
Anyone in the Triad area know a good seamstress?

Bridesmaids
Carrying baskets instead of flowers??
I'm trying to be as ecologically friendly as possible with this wedding so I've been trying to figure out what the bridesmaids could carry instead of flowers. Right now, I'm pretty much set on baskets (I used to LOVE longaberger). I figure I can weave in some navy or possibly white satin ribbons and remove the green & navy liner to make the basket look a little more formal.

I'm planning on navy bridesmaids dresses but waiting until spring or so before choosing exactly...I figure the more flexible I am, the easier the shopping will go. But the general idea is a solid navy dress for all three, or navy for the MOH and white with a navy accent for the other two ladies.

So I think these baskets could serve as dual-purpose; I'll put all the bridal party favors inside for the bridesmaids. :o)

setting the wedding date
(again!)
So right now, it looks like July 4th of next year. We've been engaged since June 22, 2007 and our first [wedding] dates were in September 2007. We didn't tell ANYONE we were engaged until Sept. 7, 2007 and at that time were still planning on eloping but then decided maybe we could get everything together and have a fairly traditional wedding on February 29, 2008.

I want a sunset wedding, on a waxing moon or full moon. You might say I'm a bit superstitious. For reasons I may go into later but definitely don't feel like reliving right now, that didn't happen. So the next date that would work for us is July 4th next year but I'm even starting to think maybe we should push it out to December 29 (the anniv. of our first date) and then we can get married on a "blue moon" whether we do it here or elope.
