How P & J met
Thanks to Jesse! :)
People try to get down to the bottom of how Phil and Jamie met. They ask questions like, "Did you grow up together?", "Did you go to the same school?", "Are you both from Washington?" ...and the answer is none of the above. Phil and Jamie met because of their mutual best friend, Jesse Tingley almost 3 years ago. Jamie grew up in Vancouver, WA since she was 5yrs. old right along side of Jesse. They went to the same church and grew up around the same people. As they got older they became very good friends, and she was sad to see him get stationed in Yuma. AZ. There would be no more house-sitting together, late night snacks, riding in Jesse's big red truck singing to country at the top of their lungs. When Jesse got to Yuma, AZ, he was roomed wish Phil in the barracks at MCAS. Jesse left for Iraq in 2007, and the day he returned home to the States, he called Jamie and then proceeded to hand to phone over to his new best friend only saying "Someone wants to talk to you." Jamie had never met his friend, so she had no idea who she was talking to....but held up conversation anyway. They seemed to have hit it off, and Phil ("CPL Eskew") was eager to ask Jesse and his family allll about Jamie. That same night, October 7th, 2007, Phil sent her a text that jokingly said "So, when are we getting married...i heard they need more teachers down here." Little did the two of them know that in just 10 months Jamie would be moving down to Yuma with her first teaching job! Meanwhile, they kept up a long-distance relationship, meeting for they very first time face-to-face in December that year, and then again in March a couple of times. Staying together when so far away was quite a challenge, but it has made them the strong couple they are. Their relationship has only continued to grow in trust, friendship, and love. God works in miraculous ways. They both cannot wait to get married in Vancouver, WA February 20th, 2010 and begin their own family.

The Proposal
HE POPPED THE QUESTION Nov. 29th, 2008!
November 29th, 2008 Phil and I drove to Camp Pendleton to visit James and Christine's family after our fun Thanksgiving spent with my L.A. family....little did I know Phil was planning one of the greatest surprises of my life!
We arrived at James and Christine's place that evening tired and worn out. I was excited to hang out with them and have a fire in the back yard with the kids. After we had settled in, we all realized we didn't have firewood for the fire, so Phil offered for us to go grab it before dinner. We had driven for a little while, when Phil said "You have no idea where we are do you?" Being completely directionally challenged, I hadn't even noticed that we were driving in completely the wrong direction. I asked where we were going, only to be completely stunned when he told me he thought we'd go walk the beach and catch the sunset. It didn't really sound like something he would do when we were visiting his brother, but then again he always surprises me with a little bit of romance when I least expect it. It put a big smile on my face just to know he wanted to go for a walk on the beach with me. We parked the car in perfect timing for a beautiful sunset. As we walked down the beach I remember seeing his right pocket bulging, and the only thought that went through my head was, "Huh, I thought he carried his wallet in his back pocket? Weird." I had absolutely NO IDEA what was about to happen. I demanded we stop for a moment to have someone take our picture....such a 'romantical' idea of his deserved to be captured in a photo :). After we stopped to pose, he asked to go walk on the jetty. We did, but of course I wore the wrong type of shoes, so I had to walk barefoot on the pile of rocks as he tried to get me to walk faster. I didn't know why he was in such a hurry, but after asking him later, he told me he was trying to time it just right with the sunset. And he did. About half way out on the jetty, I was so intrigued with the beauty that surrounded me that I hardly noticed my love strategically placing himself in front of me so that I was still facing the sunset. As I started to lean in for a kiss, I suddenly noticed Phil standing there with a small box in his hand. I couldn't believe it!...Was it really happening!?....YUP!...it was!! As he opened the box he asked me to marry him...and me, being in such a state of shock, said "Nu-uh, No way!, You did not!, No No NO." Phil, i'm sure was starting to get even more nervous as he said "That's not exactly the answer I was looking for." Haha...but I didn't mean it that way. I told him all that meant YESSS! The whole thing was perfect! He asked me as the sun was making beautiful streaks of orange, red, and pink in the sky behind him. It was such an overwhelming, breathtaking, amazingly perfect moment in our lives!! We both cherish this moment, and are so excited for our Big Day February 20th of next year! |
