Wedding Decoration
My Hobby Lobby Letdown

This past weekend we went to Hobby Lobby after several people told me that it was “A MUST” when planning my wedding. So after the issues with the flowers I decided to take a trek over to the other side of town (I was already there for a birthday party) and see just all the hoopla was over Hobby Lobby.

Well it was a HUGE disappointment. Needless to say that after we left we walked down 3 stores to Dollar Tree and found the flowers I needed for what it would have cost to purchase 2 stems from Hobby Lobby.

Don’t get me wrong, the selection was nice, the stems and florals where incredibly realistic, but $9.99 for (1) rose stem seems a bit unrealistic to me. Especially when I will be using an excess of 400-500 of them for my wedding. Not to mention all the other floral décor that will be needed.

We did look at home décor selection and the crafts too. It was all very high quality and priced comparably, but I noticed that the floral & wedding department was a bit overpriced compared to other craft stores and rental places.

Now I’m a self-admitted bargain shopping who hates to pay retail for anything. But even my nemesis Michaels fares better when it comes to price points.

So I think I’ll keep Hobby Lobby in my back pocket for when I want to search for a few key pieces for interior decorating. Not a huge production like a wedding. For what they were charging I could have all real flowers at the wedding :(

Has anyone had success with Hobby Lobby?

It's a good thing you were able to find what you needed at Dollar Tree. I love the Dollar Tree because they do have good quality stuff for even better prices than Hobby Lobby. The only thing I've ever had success with buying from Hobby Lobby was paints for my art work. Stick with the deals.

I got married April 14th but can't help to come back and visit! :) I got all my flowers and ribbon from Hobby Lobby and they turned out great! While their retail prices are a little high they always have something on sale. When I bought my flowers they were 50% off as was all bridal items and ribbon. I spent about $100 for mine and 5 bridesmaids bouquets with a large bag of stuff leftover. Keep an eye out at their weekly flyer, the 50% off sales happen all the time! Good Luck!

I have always gotten good deals at hobby lobby, but I only go when their floral and wedding stuff is 50%off. I'm sorry you didn't have a good experience, but very glad you were able to find your flowers at Dollar Tree, much better price!

We don't have hobby lobby here, but Michaels is kind of similar, full price is not always great but if you keep an eye on them there are amazing specials and coupons quite often!

hey lady!  I love Hobby Lobby because everything goes on sale week-over-week.  If the things you're looking for isn't on sale, wait a week and go back. GUARANTEED to be on sale, I promise..

Also, check the site or use the ad paper to see what is 50% off. I only bought stem flowers on the 50% off sale, and racked up!  I only purchased stems and filler flowers under 3.99 so I could purchase more to fit my budget.. and I did this for 3 months to get all the flowers I needed.

Same thing with the wedding stuff. I got my arch for $10 which was normally $29.99, and many things to make my brooch bouquet when the charms and bead stuff went on sale.

it's all about strategy and timing.. give it another try
