Wedding Flowers
Afloral and Silkflowersfactory Came In
The flowers from Afloral.com and SilkFlowersFactory.com via EFavorMart.com came in yesterday! So I finally got started on my floral arrangement plans.
Afloral was a bit of a disappointment because the quality of the prearranged flowers wasn’t the best and the peonies I ordered were a little mis-shapened from the way they were packed, with just packing paper on top of them. They got a bit crushed :( But I like the color and I think they will fit well at the bottom of my Brooch Bouquet – still have to redo it. I’m going to break up the bouquets and add some hydrangea from Michaels to bulk them up a bit. If that doesn’t work, I’ll probably get them real flowers from Winn-Dixie. That’s right, the grocery store. Every time I go in there they have the most beautiful budget floral arrangements. This week they added real pink peonies - 3 for $9.99. They also have giant hydrangea stems for $5.99. So for $16.00 they could have real flowers. I did try to research where they get their flowers from, but its FBI classified or something. Efavormart flowers are from the silk flowers factory, both are owned and operated Ya Ya Creations. The flowers were as expected, inexpensive silk flowers. I wish they had taken the time to pack my order in a larger box or use 2 boxes because the blooms where crushed on almost all of them. My biggest disappointment was the carnations. There is no way the blooms are 2 inches long (as stated in the description) and a lot of them had the flower glued to an adjoining stem. Since these are what I’m using to make my kissing balls, they worked out just fine. I’ll just have to stretch them to cover the entire foam ball – I’m leaving room to carve out a hole in the bottom for stability. I also make pick up a couple pink flowers from the Dollar Tree to cover the bottom so people don’t see the foam underneath when they are on the table. I plan on using them for the ceremony and reception – see my inspiration picture for ceremony idea. I was able to squeeze 2 balls out of 1 bag of carnations. So I will be able to cover 4 balls per order of 252 blooms. There is also a piece of wire going up 1 bloom on each stem, so I had to break out my wire cutters. . I found that swirling the bloom around upside down on my pant leg helped to open the bloom back up after its trip in the mail. – I’m not a flower person, so all of this is new to me, lol. The rose buds are ok. I’m going to use them to create 2 huge topiaries up at the altar on the church stage. They have veins running through the stems, which gives them a more realistic look. But they were also crushed. I’ll have to do a lot of fluffing to get the coverage I need. The mums were the big surprise. They look the most realistic out of all the flowers from silkflowersfactory.com. And come close to the peonies from Afloral. I’ve still got to fluff them up, but they look great- excuse my bad iphone flash photography. I wish I would have ordered the pink mums for the kissing balls. But I’m making do with what I’ve got. Overall, not a bad haul from Silk Flowers Factory for $122 and $46 from Afloral. And that includes the foam balls for $2 each and 4 oval mirrors. I did use a coupon for Afloral and got free shipping and 10% off efavormart’s website. |

Another Card Holder Box Done! Tiffany Theme
So I too have made a DIY Card holder box. Mine is inspired by Tiffany’s infamous blue boxes. So they had to be square. Lucky for me I found a 95% paint color match on clearance at Michaels a few months back, before I even had a project. But I knew I’d use it somehow.
I also found the large square boxes online at Woodcrafters. The circular hat boxes are everywhere but I couldn’t find the square ones locally. I got a total of 6 boxes and only used 3. Back in February I began by cutting the holes, I painted the boxes without too many issues. Then I packed them away. Now I can see a few areas where the paint soaked into the cardboard and now I have a few cracked areas. Guess I’ll have to do a few touchups. Assembly and adding the white ribbon was pretty easy. Glue gun to the rescue. I did opt to put the top box on with 2-sided tape so that it stores and transports easily. But the tricky part was adding the blue ribbon around the opening. I didn’t want to use the glue gun because the ribbon needed to lay flat. A mixture of Super Glue and Elmer’s glue did the trick. The only thing left is to add the white bow on the top. However, since the move I can’t find it. Hope it turns up before the wedding. |

Brooch Bouquet in Progress - Part 3
So I made it through the process of trial and error with the brooch bouquet. I decided to go with the foam for support and to keep the shape. Only downside is that the 7 ¾ inch half circle only comes in soft floral foam, which disintegrates extremely easy.
I separated my brooches by color (pink and white) and favorites. There were a few that I really wanted to stand out in the bouquet. Then I took my pink hydrangea and cut each stem and added them around the foam and kept them in place with a dab of hot glue, just stuck the stem in the glue gun. Then I started sticking in my lower priority brooches. I found myself working on one particular area and trying to get the layers right. Lesson learned – Although I like the overall look of the bouquet and I’m still waiting on my flowers to come in so I can add them to the bottom, I am going to take a second stab at it. This time I’ll put down all of the secondary brooches first, then layer my favorites on top. I’m also going to pay more attention to the size of the brooches. Right now there are several overlapping and I’m not quite happy with some of them being hidden and uneven. I also have a few rings that needed to be embedded deeper inside the foam so they don’t stick out. I also noted that I could have used way less floral wire, especially since I covered the finished product with floral tape. The hook I created on the craft wire should be no more than an inch to lessen the bulk on the brooch stem. Second try may take place some time with week. Not sure when. I may wait for the flowers to come in on Wednesday. But I’ve got to dismantle everything first. I know the foam ball is going to fall apart when I take it apart. I got another one already and will be prepared for the mess. It was shedding when I put it together so I can only imagine the mess it will make when I take it apart. |

Wedding Budget
Money Matters - The Battle of the Sexes
I've got just over a month until my BIG day and things are coming together nicely. Other than my lack of sleep I'm pretty proud of how much I have gotten accomplished, but I realize that this is the final stretch and crunch time is here.
Up to this point I have pretty much purchased all of the wedding items. Mainly because I research and find them. I almost always get input from Mr. C. because I realize it's his wedding too and I want him to be involved in the decision making process. To backtrack, in the beginning of the planning process we went over how much everything would cost and he seemed ok with the prices of everything. We aren’t having a big extravagant wedding and I am trying to keep it under $6,000. His only issue was that we MUST have a nice honeymoon – a no brainer for this travel agent :) I get great discounts from several resorts, so it won’t be an issue. I figured that we could take the money that couples normally spend on the honeymoon and apply that to the wedding, thus the $6,000 budget – or we would be having a $3,000 lol. Now, with this being the time that everything is coming due, I’m still footing the bill – paying the caterer, the venue, the décor, Everything. We made a payment timeline, but I’m the only one sticking to it. I realize that we have A LOT going on right now with the moving, but it feels like he’s the one with Bride-brain. Since I’m a very non-confrontational person, I’m having a hard time bringing it up and talking about it over and over again. I’ll remind him to buy the rings or plane tickets or make a payment on something and get nothing. Part of me thinks that he may not really want this big of a production, but I figure this time around (2nd marriage for both of us) we should do it right and say our vows before God and make the commitment in front of our children, family and friends. I really don’t know how hard to push on this one matter. However, we can talk about anything- even the tough stuff. I just have to get the nerve up to do it. Somehow I’ve got to get him to actually act on what we talk about. Any suggestions… |

Brooch Bouquet in Progress - Part 2
So over the past 2 nights I’ve lost precious sleep working on my brooch bouquet, but I think it will be worth it. I’ve almost completed the first phase of the process.
Yesterday, all but one of the china brooches I ordered came in as well as an eBay order I placed for 3 brooches. The seller added in an extra brooch, sweet! So now I’m only waiting on 2 more to come in the mail. But I figure I can move ahead to the next step because I may not need them. Last night I added the floral wire to this batch of brooches and used the last of my craft wire to create stems for 6 of them. So I’ll be making another trip to Dollar Tree for 2 more rolls. Also, Friday night after I put the stems on the first batch I created a mock bouquet just so I could get an idea of what the bouquet might look like. I’m kinda happy with the colors and amount of bling. But I am glad that I ordered a few more brooches because they may not all work out in the final product. I also realized (after the fact) that the brooch is half pink/half white. I plan on mixing them up. So what’s next – I need to wrap the tops of each stem up with floral tape and then move on the added the hydrangea to the Styrofoam ball. Although I may try to style the brooches in the 3 bushes of hydrangea first to see if that will work. Oh, since the move I can’t find my glue gun, found the glue sticks, but no gun – go figure. I see another trip to Michaels in my future. I may break down and buy the overpriced craft wire from there too. **********UPDATE************* Got the 16 gauge pre-cut floral wire wrapped in thread from Michaels to complete the last of the stems. I like that much better! You don't have to cut it and since the wire isn't exposed,it's easier to work with and doesn't poke you all the time. |

Wedding Invitation
Finally Done with the DIY Accordian Invites!
Its 3 weeks overdue, but I'm finally done designing both sets of invitations. First set for ceremony and reception, second set for just the reception.
Love how they turned out and the project only cost me $50 - EVEN BETTER! Tonight I have to start printing them out. It only took me 3 hours yesterday before I realized that my printer cable was NOT plugged into the computer. But I'm glad because it gave me time to critique them a little more before production. And although it did take me a little longer to configure the printer, this DIY project is one of my favorites. Mr. C. likes them too - even with all the pink! BONUS - the response card is detachable so there's no assembly required, just 3 folds and in the envelope they go! ********** UPDATE********** Final touch added - for all the hand delivered invites, they are getting a tone on tone 1/8 ribbon on the exterior of the envelope w/ a simple bow and handwritten with silver ink. Will post a photo later. |

Brooch Bouquet in Progress - Part 1
Yesterday I made one final (yeah, right) trip to Michaels to pick up the supplies to make my brooch bouquet. I’ve seen several tutorials and different versions of brooch bouquets and I think I’m going to take a little of what works best for each of them to create my own.
MY IDEA: - Use a 7 ½ inch semi-circle Styrofoam for the base. This way I will keep the perfect circular shaped. - Add silk hydrangea leaves to the base to cover up to Styrofoam - Attach 12” of 20 gauge floral wire to the brooch/pin/clip/earring - Attach 14” craft wire to the brooch and wrap the floral wire around it to keep the brooch from moving. - Cover the floral wire with floral tape - Insert the craft wire into the Styrofoam. - Gather craft wire ends underneath foam to create a handle - Use stems from hydrangea to add bulk to the handle -Wrap the handle with ribbon I’m also considering adding silk garden roses underneath to help fill in the bottom and almost complete the sphere shape that I’m after. I didn’t want to have the entire sphere be brooches because of the weight. Just from the test run last night I see this is going to be heavy! Here are the photos of what I’ve completed so far. I was able to get half of the brooches laced up with floral wire. I only had enough craft wire to complete 10 stems from the Dollar Tree. Guess I’ll be heading back again today. I should get done with wiring them up this weekend. First lesson learned is that I should have purchased silver floral wire. It costs a little more, but it wouldn’t be as noticeable as the green wire. I had a hard time pinching it back so it didn’t show through the brooches and the green comes off the wire and makes a bit of a mess. Guess it’s a preference issue. But it comes in lots of colors, so match it to your scheme. |

Wedding Reception
Reception Venue
Ok – I know I should have posted this sooner, but here it is anyway. The reception is going to be held at The Haskell Building in the café on the first floor overlooking the St. Johns River.
I get to cheat here because I used to work at Haskell. The building itself is beautiful, but the views add even more to the ambiance. There is a contemporary water fountain at the front entrance and floor to ceiling views of the river and cityscape. The lobby boasts a 3 story atrium with an art installation floating above the entrance. Not to mention the clean, sleek and modern design though out. It is a blessing to have the reception here because the space is so beautiful that there isn’t that much we need to do to enhance it for the reception. -Photos courtesy of Riverfront Café and Catering (www.jaxcatering.com) & Deremer Studios |

The Church
For years I dreamed of getting married in this small church. I drove past it for years, had never been inside, but always loved the setting. It sits way back in a park and you can’t really see it from the street. It’s full of shady trees, roses and other flowers. The atmosphere is majestic.
So when Mr. C. proposed I immediately thought that this would be the perfect place to get married. And FINALLY I got a chance to go inside the chapel and the “Bridal Cottage” next door. Which made me fall in love even more! |
