Black Wedding Budget Flower Budget = DEATH OF ME!

Wedding Budget
Flower Budget = DEATH OF ME!

As a follow up to my post last week regarding my florist visit. Well the owner came back in with her quote and WHOOAAAAAA....I either under budgeted (3,000) or I have expensive taste. If anyone who has followed my blogs already know that I'm not really a flowers girl; I can tell you what I like when I see an arrangement, however I'm not to savvy with pricing or terminology.

So of course at my consultation, I show the florist what I like for my reception centerpieces and those ones I choose came out to be either $150 or $165 per centerpiece and I have approx 20 tables. WTF!!! I invested in pin spotting for my centerpieces so I decided to do all tall centerpieces. Well that is definitely going to have to change. I will have to do some high and some low in order to cut costs as well cut down the number of pin spotting lights.

And not to add I have very large wedding party and their bouquets are running me $58 a pop! This sucks....because in one breathe I say I could care less about flowers but then in another I don't want some "rinky dink" centerpieces or bouquets either.

So ladies I'm asking what is your flower budget and are you seeing that you may have to increase yours also?

My flower 'budget' was $3,000. That quickly went up to $4,000. Luckily my venue is already decked out with palm trees and tropical flowers so all I had to do was add 2 big arrangements to the altar but they were pricey. Almost $200 each.. as for the wedding itself I was really set on having my guests feel like they were in Hawaii or something so I wanted different types of lily's, lily grass, orchids and flowers like that. I did 2 different types of arrangements on the tables which I think cut costs..half of the tables will have the large arrangements to 'make them feel like they are sitting under palm trees' and the other set of tables are getting the 3 cylinder vases with submerged orchids and floating candles with rose petals scattered around the bottom. I just haven't 100% decided on what I want to do with the Sweetheart table yet.. I think I want to do a few cylinder vases with flower petals in between and floating candles.. so pretty =) I really love flowers though.. so this is something I knew could really set the atmosphere for my wedding and was important to me.

Laurie...yes you are a flowers girl! Suggestion for your sweatheart table...maybe use your bridemaids bouquet to decorate. That is what I'm going to do....

Zana - OMG girl you are truely a "rarity". I haven't found one person who has been under budget with flowers. You go girl....I wish I lived where you are....because this is just dag on ridiculous.

I'm not at $4,000 for the flowers budget.....

I'm only paying $1200 but then again I have more feathers than flowers in my centerpieces. I'm not really a flower girl myself. Yes, I want a nice bouquet, but everyone has seen the same flower centerpieces at tables. Plus, my florist/decor is a close family friend so she's really just charging me the price of supplies. 3k is a lot...that's a honeymoon (a really nice one).

I like seeing high and low centerpieces. I was doing that anyway though...David Tutera says it gives a nicer look in the room lol. When I was researching florals for my wedding the average prices I saw was between 2k-4k. You have 20 tables and quite a few bridesmaids, so I think that price is reasonable. Look into getting cheaper and bigger flowers. Roses are always cheaper and look into a bigger flower that takes up a lot of space like hydrangeas.

I'm super lucky because my aunt owns her own flower bouquet, so she is giving us an amazing deal!  She is only making us pay for the flowers and no service fee:)  Normally, she told me she charges about $1,500 for just the bouquets, boutineers, coursages, maybe 2 floral arrangments for altar and then putting 2 or 3 flowers at each table.  She told me that if I had a decent size floral arrangement at each table and paid full price it would be more like $2,000.  She also told me it depends on the type of flowers you order because if they are out of season or have to be ordered in from somewhere else that brings up the price also,

So, needless to say, I'm getting my flowers for around $500, which I am super lucky to get them this cheap!  I am VERY thankful that she is doing this for our special day:)

I am only doing boutineers corsages and bouquets. My best friend is  a florist, and buying the flowers wholesale, and buying the supplies to build them at Michaels, I am spending approx 200 dollars on flowers. I am super not a flowers kinda girls though.

My flowers are around 400 because I'm having my ceremony in gardens (the largest display garden in australia or the world or something they reckon). My centrepieces are tall white candelabras with ivy on them so I don't need to supply anything for the reception either. I thought 400 was heaps lol.

I had no idea how much flowers costs so couldn't set a budget for myself!  So what i did was, google a ton of florists and check their pricing and just compared.  I met with two florists and i chose to go with my second one because she had better design ideas.  Anyway, i got flowers for 7 bridesmaids, 6 boutonnieres, 3 corsages, bridal and toss bouquet, flower purse for flower girl and 15 centerpieces. My flowers included calla lillies, mini calla lillies, roses, anemones, dendrobium orchids, mokara orchids, cymbidium orchids, and gardenia?s.....all that is going to cost me just over $2,200.  They way i look at it is...if i can afford it, than it's reasonable to me and within my budget.

Glamdivabride - girl you may not be a flowers girl but you are defintely on point with the pricing and same thoughts of the florists (roses and hydrangeas). I'm going to do low and high centerpieces since my pin spotting will not be affected in order save money.

All my other WBC brides - you girls are sooo lucky to have friends that are florists. I wish I had that type of hook up!

I meet with another florist today so I will compare all quotes I've received and then go with the best person who fits my budget and style. Thanks for the advice ladies.
