Menswear
What will our men wear??
The fiancé and I decided that since our wedding was pretty low key the groomsmen could wear black suits and it would be their choice weather they rent, borrow or purchased them, they just had to be solid black. We will be pairing that with black shirts so that lets us have lots of freedom selecting a tie. Of course to find a tie we would love I browsed the net for hours finally resorting to the website that comes through for me always ...Etsy. Meandmatilda has a great selection of ties!!! More colors and patterns than I could ever dream of!! I cant seem to get a picture to load of the tie that Steve and I selected so I will post a link...
http://www.etsy.com/listing/59820579/me-and-matilda-everyday-necktie-lime-mod We are pretty ecstatic with this choice I cant wait to see it pop against all that black. We purchased a suit for Steve already. We scored it at Kohls during a sale buy the jacket get the pants free!! Its a modern fit suit (black with thin pin striping) by Billy London. I think he was just as excited to pick out a suit as I was to pick out a dress. His tie is a paler green with lines of pink through it (pictured) and his shirt is pale pink (almost the exact color of my dress). Of course now I am rethinking his tie. If the groomsmen are wearing such bold ties would it do for Steve to wear something more subtle and a little more classic? Steves tie is the one in the picture the groomsmen is the one in the link. I'm sure Steve wouldnt mind a more vibrant tie but his goes so well with his shirt/suit/my dress. hmmmmmm decisions decisions |

DIY Wedding
The Guest Book...
I knew I wanted something different for our guest book; something that would be fun for our guests and go with the overall Casual nature of the occasion. One thing just stuck in my head!!!! POLAROIDS!!! How fun would it be to have each guest or party take a Polaroid and put it in a scrap book and write a message to us next to it?! This will guarantee us a picture of every guest! I pitched the idea to Steve and he LOVED it! Now that the decision was made I went forward looking for a camera and film. Amazon.com seemed like the best place to purchase such a thing. After going through all the options I seem to have 3 reasonable choices.
Fujifilm Instax MINI 25, Fujifilm INSTAX MINI and Polaroid PIC-300L. the first one I listed is the most expensive but also seems to be the best camera. I just need to ask myself how often Im going to use this. Is it worth it to buy the more expensive one because it may produce a slightly better picture of should I go with the least expensive one since it will mainly be used for this one event? Depending on how much I like the camera I will either keep it or re sell on craigslist. I have all 3 currently saved to my wedding list on amazon.com I figure after watching them and waiting to see if the prices will drop Ill have a better idea of which one to get. |

The great Petticoat Hunt...
I knew I wanted something unique to spice up a pretty plain dress a little 50's flare you could say .I wanted a hot pink petticoat! Now the challenge was to find one I could afford. www.pettiskirtstyle.com had some great things as a matter of fact they had exactly what I wanted
for $170 plus shipping and handling GAH!!! Needless to say I was not willing to pay $170 plus shipping on my petticoat. What do I do I go to my fave website for finding the unfindable... Etsy. After searching and searching I found it!!! a listing by dreamspunkids for an adult pettiskirt you pick color and length and get this for $75!! score. So with bated breath I convo'd them and the lady we extremely helpful asking questions about how my dress was made making sure the pettiskirt would be just right and getting my measurements etc. she offered extra fluff for $10 I took that deal and now am going to be the proud owner of a custom, extra fluffy, hot pink pettiskirt on my big dag for a grand total of $95 including shipping and handling. So to recap I paid $160 for my wedding dress, $95 for my pettiskirt, $20 for my veil also found on Etsy, $10 for my fascinator also found on Etsy and $60 for 2 pairs of shoes (1 pair heels 1 pair flats)!!! That brings my grand total for attire for my big day to $345. I couldnt be more excited if I had spent $1000!!! The Etsy shops I used were dreamspunkids, ribboncandyhairbows, and I can't seem to remember the name of the seller I got my veil from but there are tons of choices!!! The lesson is dont settle for ordinary because you dont think you can afford extraordinary!!! Even a budget bride can have what she really dreams of on her wedding day!

The Accessories
What bride is complete without her accessories :-) ah the veil the shoes the petticoat. Since i am wearing a relatively plain dress i feel i can spice it up a little with my accessories... a bandeau style veil with a feather fascinator, some hot pink shoes and a playful hot pink chiffon petticoat will complete my wedding day look along with a hand crafted one of a kind necklace.

Wedding Dress
The Wedding and Bridemaids Dresses.
I went (along with my cousin, Mom and Aunt) to davids bridal to try on dresses for my bridemaids and myself. I knew if i didn't want to wear it then i would never put them in it. I also knew that i wanted a bridemaid dress as my wedding dress (it's a budget friendly way to get a dress the color i want). Armed with computer print out of all the dress styles i wanted to consider for my dress and theirs I found these 2 lovelies there. both of them have pockets!!!!! both were ultra flattering (i happen to be around 5 months pregnant in this picture) and both can be worn again (i'll be shortening the long one after the wedding). The short dress is a cotton sateen and the long one is satin. I fell in love with both of these dresses immediatly!!! On my special day i will wear the long one in a very pale pink while my maid of honor wears the short one in black and all my other bridesmaids wear the short one in kelly green :-) Thank you Davids Bridal for making it so easy for me.

Wedding Decoration
Our Wedding colors
Deciding on your wedding colors is the first step in coming up with the overall decor of the wedding (IMHO). i can't go any further until i have that all settled. My favorite color since childhood has been pink cliche i know but hey what are you gonna do. My fiance's favorite color is green (which happens to be my 2nd favorite color) and we both like black. so there you have it. i envision the wedding as having hot pinks and bright greens everywhere with accents of black. even my dress will be pink rather than the traditionl white (more on that later).

The List
The Guest List and Bridal Party.
When thinking of your bridal party it's easy to get carried away and invite every friend you have ever been close to. In my case if I invited all my close girlfriends to stand up with me I would be nearing 10 which is not a reasonable number for me considering the intimacy of the wedding. With that in mind I chose 5 people to stand beside me on the big day. This number was influenced greatly by Steve who only had around 5 people he wanted next to him. It was difficult to say the least picking and choosing from my very best friends and I am looking for ways to include everyone in the wedding in some way :-) Fist up My maid of Honor- Christina Gardner; She's been my friend since 5th grade and we remain best friends to this day! This choice required no effort on my part I knew that she was the woman for the job. Next up are 2 of my family members i happen to be close to :-) my Sis in Law Shannon Keys and My Cuz Tracie Maus. Love them both. Next we have my Fashonista friend Monica Earp and last but not least we have Lindsey Currance whom i trust in all matters of decor and deportment. Her taste is very similar to my own. Next on our minds was the guest list. When working with a small venue unfortunately the guest list has to be somewhat small as well. This undoubtedly means someone will get their feelings hurt at some point. We are striving for a guest list of 80 or less which is way more challenging than I had originally thought but we are getting there.

Wedding Venue
Where To Have This Shindig?
When the question of Venue arose I thought of one place. It was actually the place where Steve and I had our baby shower May 15th of 2010. It's small and personal not too much to look at on the inside but look at that view from the outside!!! Thats what sold me! Oh and did I mention $100 buys us the entire day (score!) including tables and chairs (not so attractive chairs). With the venue only costing us $100 that leaves us lots of Budget for Beautification and Decor. The plan is to get pipe and drape from top hat party designs to cover the not so lovely walls and to rent white chairs instead of using the green plastic ones the hall provides. We will however use the green chairs outside for our ceremony. Waist not want not right :-) Now on to Decor. How do we arrange tables and make this place really reflect our individual style without breaking the bank...

Wedding Budget
How Much Can We Afford?
Steve and I will be paying for this wedding on our own. As luck would have it we will have a fairly decent tax return this year and I have been buying things slowly to spread out the cost. We are doing this for less than 4000 total. First thing to do is prioritize. What is important to us? once we come up with an answer to that question it becomes a bit easier to sort out. We know 2 things for sure A- we want our friends and family to have GREAT time and B- we want quality pictures to help us remember our day. Armed with those 2 things in mind we began the planning process. Stay tuned for details...
