Ask a Question
To Look Or Not To Look!

That is the question....

In a way, I like the tradition of seeing the groom as I walk down the aisle towards him.

And on the other hand, FH has already told me how nervous he's going to be. So, seeing each other beforehand may take off some of the stress.

Pros To Tradition:
1. You get the anticipation of seeing each other during the ceremony.
2. It may be more emotional for you and your guests as you see him for the first time that day.
3. It's tradition.

Pros To First Look:
1. It may help to take the edge off, so you won't be as nervous walking down the aisle.
2. More photo ops/time.
3. It breaks tradition : )

Right now, I'm leaning towards the "first look". Which one are you all leaning towards??

We're doing the first look...mainly because the priest who is marrying us does not allow the bride to walk down the aisle with anyone else other than the groom. I know, i know, sounds crazy but it's the way the churches in my hometown are now. Anyway, I'm actually happy we're going to be doing a first look because seeing each other for the first time is such an intimate moment that I want to share with just my FH (and the photographer! haha). Also, I will be a bag of nerves that day so I think walking down the aisle with him will calm my nerves! First looks are amazing if you aren't too superstitious! :)

You girls make good points! It seems like the pros of a "first look" definitely outweigh the cons, if there are any.  I like the idea of seeing each other in an intimate moment with just us two (and the photographer, lol).

My FH actually helped me pick my dress out. We did it that way because he's the one I want to look amazing for that day, and I wanted to wear something he likes :)

wow! i cant believe so many of you are breaking tradition. i've totally thought about it and almost showed him my dress. but i really want to surprise him. besides, i kinda want to see him squirm, he's always so calm and cool about everything, except being the center of attention. hes an awsome lead guitar and singer, but he's terrified of being a front man. just once i want to see him be a that guy!

I'm doing a first look and I NEVER thought I would. The main highlight for me was the fact that it will be the ONLY quiet moment we will have the whole day. After that, the guests and action will be on! So we can have  a little cuddle and support each other. AND we can actually appreciate the way we look, and he can say "you're beautiful" or whatever.. because once you get to the altar, you can't say anything!!

This wasn't a hard decision for me, my FH and I have been together for so long it feels like we're married already. Plus he is the one person I find comfort in, Seeing him before the wedding will really calm my nerves. Plus our photographer can get some great shots because I know after the Ceremony we'll be ready to party!!!! Getting all those couple shots out of the way before gives you plenty of time to enjoy cocktail hour with your guests. I personally think the moment where FH and I see each other for the first time ALONE will be much more intimate then seeing him waiting for me at the end of the aisle (although both moments are emotional) I say go for the first look!!!!

I'm glad you did this post. I am debating the same issue right now. I want to do a "first look" but the FH still wants that feeling of seeing his bride for the first time at the ceremony. The best pro are time for pics, and it helps you not be so nervous. I would love our photographer to just capture those first moments of us on our wedding day with no one else around. Hopefully my FH may change his mind in the future...to make me happy! However, I want him to be comfortable with the decision as well.

I think you're leaning towards the right choice.

we are going with a first look, I love the fact we'll be freshly done up for the photos and have more time to spend with each other and our guests later in the day!

I guess the "first look" is becoming the norm nowadays.
