Wedding Cake vs. Cupcakes?

I LOVE, emphasis really added here, L-O-V-E GiGi's cupcakes. I've been thinking about foregoing a wedding cake (maybe?) and just doing gourmet cupcakes from my fave place, but wasn't sure I'd really end up saving money AND not sure if I'd regret not having a wedding cake on our special day.

I've found one of Patrick's close childhood friends who is a baker (shouts out to Carlos Chisholm!) to help with the groomscake since my sweetie loves the Washington Redskins...BUT as for the wedding cake I'm in total deer in the headlights mode.

I've been to weddings where cupcakes were served and the display and cupcake itself had ALOT to do with the ho-hum-nothing-special feeling I got and I definetly don't want that experience. I know my caterer is excellent, and paired with GiGi's cupcakes it would be off the chain with the display and the melt in your mouth goodness that would make you want to slap your mama.. But, will I want a wedding cake at the last minute?? aaaaaagh>>>>>>> such a tough decision.

Because we're getting married in the Fall, GiGi's has my all time favorite flavors during that time, and everytime I think about it I just get giddy, excited, my fingers dance, I get a sparkle in my eye and can almost taste it. Yep.. I love GiGi's Cupcakes. Only thing is, I have a bit of a curious palette and I don't want to invest in a zillion cupcakes that only I'm in love with..

Help somebody, HELP! hahahahaha. So far, I'm torn between a lovely vintage damask design wedding cake with ribbons that would really be nice or my GiGi's cupcakes that make me warm and fuzzy inside but probably cost me about the price of a huge wedding cake once I order enough to feed my guests.

I'm feeling the tug of wanting to splurge.. somebody reel me back in before I bust my budget!! hahahahaha

First off, those cupcakes look amazing!!! :) We are doing a cupcake tree with a small cake on top to cut. I've always known I was going to do cupcakes, even before it became the craze. Are you doing a dessert table of any kind? You could have your cake and then just a few of the cupcakes on the dessert table? Or do half and half, smaller cake and less cupcakes. Although the way you talk, it sounds like you want the cupcakes, lol. But if you feel like you lose the specialness of it with just cupcakes, maybe you could do the other suggestions?? Thank you Phillysgirl5!!! Yes, I was totally on for the cupcakes with a little cake tier on top until my FH said "NO WAY!" lol.

He wants us to have a wedding cake, which is fine with me... but I've got to figure out how to get my cupcakes into this wedding somehow.. maybe I'll have some at my bridal shower or during the Bridesmaids Luncheon I'm planning for my Maids.. I love GiGi's so much that I just can't imagine them not being a part of my day somehow.. hahahahaha.
