Ask a Question
Making a Vintage Brooch Bouquet: Should I use buttons, brooches and flowers or ONLY brooches?

First, I need to shout out to ido07222011 for her amazing job with her brooch bouquet! She really inspired me to make up in my mind I CAN ACTUALLY DO THIS! LOL.

Instead of going with the the bouquet foam stick like a lot of ladies do, I love her idea of using a foam ball because hers came out perfectly round and looks exactly how I envisioned mine to be shaped.

In the attached picture, I came across a nice brooch bouquet for sale on the Blue Petyl website that I really liked because it combined buttons, silk purple flowers here and there, along with brooches. It made me think- hey wait a minute, that's what I want! LOL.

I've been all over the web trying to find unique brooches, and have really been captivated by some brooch bouquets that incorporate silk flowers or buttons with a vintage flair. With my theme of modern vintage, and being eclectic in personality anyway- I was thinking why not do all 3?! I mean, who says it has to be only brooches, or only buttons, right?

The only thing is trying to envision exactly what I want and not just frivolously buying things that won't all gel together..

Tell me what you think, and if you're currently making your own DIY brooch bouquet Please oh Please give me pointers. I plan to start mine in the next 2 weeks and need all the help I can get.

((HUGS)) ladies!

Adding buttons is a great idea. I love the look! They will probably be way less expensive than all brooches. I think adding flowers of some sort will help fill in any areas that might be lacking.
I’ve been collecting brooches for the past few weeks myself and am going to start assembling mine this evening. I ended up going to Burlington, Ross, antique shops, thrift stores, ebay, etsy.com and www.fabulousbrooch.com. I’m also going to check the clearance racks at Bealls Outlet. I have found several pieces of broken jewelry (mostly bracelets) and fashion rings with flowers on them for under $3 each. And this weekend at the bridal shower I’ve asked everyone to bring in any brooches they no longer use.
My plan is to combine a few different techniques that I’ve seen online. I bought the Styrofoam half circle, but am still going to attach the brooches with floral wire, pushing them all the way through so I keep the perfect dome shape without having to redo it. I also bought some pink hydrangea. Before I attach the brooches to the Styrofoam I’m going to attempt to use the flowers as the base. If that doesn’t work, I’m going to put stems of the hydrangea on the Styrofoam as a base, so you don’t see the ball.  I also want to add some garden roses at the base instead of ribbon or cloth. Well, that’s my plan. I’ll update my blog with photos to let everyone know how it turns out.

Hi there!
I am so in love with the idea of the brooch bouquet, but am stressing about how to make it!
I'll be using a ball and dowelrod as the base for the bouquet! And cover the ball in a nice material too.

Im using a mix of brooches and earringsnfor mine, but am often tempted to incude some silk flowers too.

Just fyi, the absolute BEST place to buy brooches is here:

I got about 80% of my brooches here, they are loveky and u can even search by colour!
