Ask a Question
Making a Vintage Brooch Bouquet: Should I use buttons, brooches and flowers or ONLY brooches?
First, I need to shout out to ido07222011 for her amazing job with her brooch bouquet! She really inspired me to make up in my mind I CAN ACTUALLY DO THIS! LOL.

Instead of going with the the bouquet foam stick like a lot of ladies do, I love her idea of using a foam ball because hers came out perfectly round and looks exactly how I envisioned mine to be shaped.

In the attached picture, I came across a nice brooch bouquet for sale on the Blue Petyl website that I really liked because it combined buttons, silk purple flowers here and there, along with brooches. It made me think- hey wait a minute, that's what I want! LOL.

I've been all over the web trying to find unique brooches, and have really been captivated by some brooch bouquets that incorporate silk flowers or buttons with a vintage flair. With my theme of modern vintage, and being eclectic in personality anyway- I was thinking why not do all 3?! I mean, who says it has to be only brooches, or only buttons, right?

The only thing is trying to envision exactly what I want and not just frivolously buying things that won't all gel together..

Tell me what you think, and if you're currently making your own DIY brooch bouquet Please oh Please give me pointers. I plan to start mine in the next 2 weeks and need all the help I can get.

((HUGS)) ladies!

So glad Patrick chose his suit/ Groomsmen suits!! *YAY* and it's official- he's wearing a BOWTIE!
So my FH has found the suit style he wants at Men Warehouse- the partner to David's Bridal where I found my dress. (HI-FIVE baby!)

I'm so excited because he has such a flair for fashion, and the suit goes well with our theme. The one he picked out is a European cut which is classy, and has nice clean lines. Because he has a lean frame, he looks amazing in suits like this. The suit he chose for his grooomsmen works well with any body frame and can accommodate a lean or more robust chest and abdomen area. The leg of the pants aren't the classic "pencil" leg style of a lot of European suits guys are trending to wear now which is good because I'm not a huge fan of that look.. (Yes, I like a man's pants to touch the top of his shoe and I don't want to see his ankles...awkward look in my opinion)

He decided that for himself, his Best Men (he has 2 and I have 2 Matrons) and "our" son Malcolm, the 4 of them will wear bowties. I'm hoping I can talk him into wearing a signature color that will really pop out from his suit, and have his special guys wear something that also distinguishes them by color and style of the bowtie.

The rest of his groomsmen and ushers will wear standard ties in a nice tangerine orange and cream to bring out the color scheme of our wedding with a hint of purple (gotta find the perfect tie!!)

Patrick is known for his shoes, so I can't wait to find out how he will outfit his side of the party.. I wouldn't be surprised if they wore low chucks, or one of his favorite brands- Clarks.. He's be deliberating back and forth whether he will be wearing formal shoes or keeping it casual.. We will see!

Shouts out to my honey! You make me so proud, not just because you dress well and have a sense of fashion, of course... BUT THAT CERTAINLY HELPS!

Getting FIT!
My last 72 hours & L.A. Fitness
My friends and coworkers who know me will be glad to know that THIS YEAR will not be like the last, where I paid for a membership at L.A. Fitness (yes, directly debited from my checking account monthly) and only stepped in there ONCE.

No- this time, I am happy to announce that within the last 72 hours I have made a very consistent effort to go work out.. The first day I worked on cardio, Second day I focused on my legs and endurance, and tody I went back to cardio.

Tonight at 8pm they have a Zumba class that I'm really excited about!! I haven't formally exercised (I'm embarrassed to admit this) since I actively danced with an African Dance troup back in my hometown well over 12 years ago.

Before that I was very active- taught aerobics at the YMCA, many moons ago while in highschool was a JV and Varsity cheerleader, worked out throughout my pregnancy with my son Malcolm (yes, 15 years ago) and loved doing things on the go.. still do- just the "on the go" part is mostly behind the wheel of my Acura or running behind Malcolm somewhere with his friends..

So now that I'm a 30-something mom working in Corporate America, who still looks like I'm 18 I decided I had no excuse.. my FH is a fitness buff and majored in Sports Management.. Being on the move and taking care of his body is like breathing for Patrick lol.

Me? I've just been taking advantage of these great genes that until this year- Now that I'm 32, has definitely let me know they are fading with the years.. hahahahaha... Time to actually do some work and retrain my body to remember being in shape.. that way I won't be a fuddy-duddy mom or out of shape bride.

Wish me luck ladies.. Old habits die hard and my habit before 3 days ago was work, work, work, home, work...oh yeah, and you guessed it.. work. LOL

So far I feel amazingly lifted and high energy.. I was dreading going to the gym because I thought I was going to be really sore, but luckily all those excercise techniques and warm ups that I learned in jazz and ballet classes as a kid, and strengthening warm-ups and cool down techniques I learned during my stint as a dancer really helped.

Bridesmaids
FOUND SOME AWESOME Vintage-Inspired *Orange & Purple Stilettos* for my Bridesmaids!!
When planning for my wedding, and deciding who I was going to ask to participate in my wedding party, I had to remember to be sensitive to the economic climate we are facing in our country. As close of friends as we all may be to our Maids, and Matrons, you never quite know all the financial hurdles they may face.. So, with that in mind, I promised my maids that I would try my best to mind their pocketbooks as I do my own, and that even though it's Patrick and my "Big day" for our wedding, I didn't expect anyone to spend a zillion dollars on anything they were really buying just to make me happy.

One of the major highlights of my wedding planning with my maids and my promise to save money as we go, went a little something like this on our GroupMe blog about 2 weeks ago:

"....be proud.. you know I'm good at bargains.. and now I even amaze myself! Shopping at Rue21 for some jeans, I came across some shoes that look EXACTLY like those designer shoes for $145 by Jeffrey Campbell Garret that we all love. I love a great deal!!! Guess what? I just bought every one of you a pair!!!! "

That day I felt amazing, not only because I found some amazing shoes, but because I was able to afford to pamper my maids in a way that they all could enjoy and feel a connection through. We all L-O-V-E shoes.

.but then again..who doesn't love a great pair of shoes?! For many ladies a cute pair of heels can transform your mood or turn your whole day around. Being able to gift these sexy heels to my ladies meant a lot to them, which meant a lot to me. And they are perfect for my wedding colors since my maids are all wearing vintage-inspired varying shades of purple dresses.. I love the suede and velvet combination and how the colors literally POP together.talk about a little vintage-retro-flavor!

I still can't believe I came across such a great deal. The shoes were originally $26.99,which is what I paid and because I bought so many of them at once, Rue 21 contacted me to notify me that within 14 days of my purchase, the shoes went on clearance and I am eligible for a refund for the difference! Tomorrow on my off day, I plan to use the money I'm getting back to purchase all my maids emergency kits and other little things that I can put together for our Bridesmaids Luncheon I'm planning. I'm so excited to be able to give back to them something as they help me plan for my big day.

God is amazing! I'm so in love with these shoes and the fact they will be able to be worn many times after my wedding wherever my happy maids decide to prance off to in the night makes me feel so good inside. I'm a frugal person by nature, and love knowing that when I spend money it's not a pure waste or in vain. Being able to get some designer replica shoes for now, $9.99 made my whole day.. no, my whole MONTH! lol.

These shoes alone say so much about my personality and theme: modern vintage with flair. I'm so excited that my bridesmaids love them because it made me really joyful to be able to afford something that they all will actually hold dear. To be on a budget and be able to "splurge" for 6 people who mean so much to me felt really really REALLY good.

Love you ladies and I'm so glad you love these shoes!! Next up, finding suitable jewelry!

Wedding Dress
My little flower girl is growing... UP & OUT?!
For as long as I can remember, my little cousin Cameron was the perfect flower girl size.. full of wonder, utter joy to be around and totally girly-whirly-fun should be her whole middle name.

I've always known that I wanted her to be my flower girl.. so many sentimental reasons- she is the daughter of one of my favorite cousins (and bridesmaid, Jada), her grandmother is one of my Matrons of Honor and had a HUGE impact on me as a child and younger adult, Cameron and I have shared a special bond where I hand make her Easter baskets without fail every year ever since she was born.. and now, she is almost out of little "kid size"

I fell in love with this amazing dress that I just gotta have for my flower girl.. it's creamy satin with orange flower buds and burnt orange flower petals actually sewn into the bottom of the dress that flow as she moves. The back of the dress has a sweep train made of tulle that matches the style of my dress perfectly- almost eerily perfectly.

The dress comes with a matching tiara that has tulle that then blends in with the back of the dress' sweep train and finalizes with a sweet bow in the back.. Paired with some frilly little socks and I literally got teary eyed at Discover Mills Mall looking at it envisioning her in the dress.

The largest size it comes in is a 12.. and she is currently wearing that size RIGHT NOW.. my concern is most kids grow over the summer months AND she is at the stage where she could blossom in either direction.. I'm toying with the idea of buying the dress anyway and having it taken out if possible if she needs it, OR having more than 1 flower girl since I will have more than 1 ring bearer.

(The ring bearer will be one of Patrick's nephews and he will be pulling a wagon holding my nephew Aidan, and little cousin Dion who are both toddlers. The ring pillow will be resting in the wagon in between them as they ride down the aisle in the park)

I guess I'm just having a hard time with the idea that my little flower girl is growing up... Ah, I can remember her as a baby.. Now she may need a training bra in the next 2 years. AAAAGH! LOL.

What do you think? find another little girl in my family who can also wear the dress, or stick with my choice to highlight my favorite girl cousin? hmmmmm....

Wedding Reception
I NEED HELP!! *Need Venue Options: Reception*
Ok, so 191 days to go and I still haven't confirmed a venue for our reception. I have a scheduled walk-through for the Knights of Columbus banquet hall but the more I think about it, the more I want to keep looking.

The venue is within our price range.. Access to it for the entire day, kitchen, can bring in our own caterer, get a bartender, tables and chairs for our guests all for.... $900. Yep, for the price it's awesome.

Until I get there and really see just how much decorating this may require, I'm still ok with the venue.

Because we are having our ceremony outdoors, it's going to be paramount to have a "just in case it rains" option to lean on and that's the other reason we're really looking at the KOC off of Oglethorpe and Abercorn,

We have also been considering some other places that are almost $500 to $1000 more but the catch is we want to use our caterer- Mrs. Frances Byrd (Events by Frances) is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! just typing her name my mouth begins to water.. so we are on the hunt for (a) affordable (b) something close to Forsyth Park and (c) something that will still fall in line with modern vintage

Any suggestions?
Ceremony site: Forsyth Park Fountain, Savannah GA
# of Guests: approx 250
want to bring in our own caterer/ own food.

thanks!

Shouts out to Laura Suffi and her "Brooch Bouquet Obsession" blog! Love it!
I am a huge fan of Pinterist, and I came across a blog all about Laura Suffi and her obsession with making brooch bouquets! Talk about amazing work!

check her out here:
http://pinterest.com/lrsuffi/brooch-bouquet-obsession/

Full of amazing tutorials, I watched in utter joy as I learned the ins and outs of step-by-step brooch bouquet making, What had at first seemed very overwhelming of a task, daunting even.. is turning out to be quite simple with the right tools.

I can't wait to go to Hobby Lobby tomorrow and then call my mom and see if I can butter her up for some mommy-daughter craft time *giggles*
Cross your fingers that she will help me. (I know she will) because she is AWESOME at handmade things. She loves to sew, makes her own suits and dresses, and was a huge help with my sister's wedding for bouquets and stuff.

Can't wait to start so I can post as I go! Wish me luck!

Wedding Favors
Fall Wedding.. Favor ideas.. Want to do something organic
So I've been toying around with the idea of giving grape jelly as my favor since our wedding is during the "bountiful harvest" time of year- Fall.

I love the idea of giving favors that people can actually use and will take home with them.. Who doesn't like grape jelly or preserves? tons of uses for it AND it matches our wedding color- eggplant..

I've came across some really cute templates that I can use for the jars and just hope people find it sentimental instead of lame.

Every other favor idea that I see in magazines, online and places like Michaels and Party City scream "BORING" or "see that everywhere" or don't really have anything to do with our theme.

Any suggestions on where I can get wholesale jars? I came across a couple sites that sell bulk mason jars, but I want the favors to be 8 oz or less... I think I'm going to go with the site, cudge.net because I can get 60 jars of jelly for $32.66.. By the time I add a sentimental label, monagram, ribbon and some lace- whala!

That's about $150 with tax for 240 grape jelly jars which would satisfy my guest list.. not too bad considering some favors that people will never use are averaging $2-6 each at some sites...

What do you think? good idea or.....should I keep looking? I think I like it.

In Love with CardsandPockets.com! Perfetto Pocketfold Invitations $.80
So I found the site that I'm going to order my landscape pocketfold invitations from! So excited because when I received my samples, they were waaaay better than I anticipated.

Can't wait to put these together, Because my colors are eggplant and burnt orange, I found this "sparkling merlot" color in their perfetto pocketfold that matches my color to a "T"... they have these sparkly sheen to it that just makes me excited, and I can't wait to staircase the enclosures in this beautiful fall array of golds, ambers, tangerines and burgandy.. For the outside I plan to do something very vintage as an enclosure... and along the "v" of the pocket something to make it "pop"

so many ideas are whirring around in my head right now. I'm going to make a sample and post it to see what you ladies think..

Wish me luck!

the best thing is the pocketfolds are only .80 so for my guests I won't fork out a zillion dollars, AND the enclosures are sold in packets of 25 or 50 for less than $10 each, and the mats that are optional for my invitations to go on come in a damask print that will really make my invite POP off the sheet.. guess what? 25 for $7.99!! LOVING IT! so what I will have to print them myself, it beats having a cookie-cutter invitation out of one of those invitation books AND I don't have to wait a million years to get them back just to discover a typo..

To keep it stress free I've ordered half the supplies now and in 2 weeks I will do the other half.

YAY!!!!!
