Ask a Question
To hold a rehearsal dinner, or not to hold a rehearsal dinner...
So our location is a bit on the high side of our budget. We have to use the hotel as our caterer and that means our dinner is going to be quite a bit nicer than we imagined, which is great but now I have to find another place to save money. Bring in the rehearsal dinner.

Our plan right now is having 8 groomsmen, 7 bridespersons (have to be politically correct!), and 1 flowergirl. So thats a large bridal party to feed. In addition, almost every one of our guests is coming from out of town, and we want to hang out with all of our friends and family. It was so hard to cut it down to the bridal party that we have now! So our idea is to have a rehearsal earlier in the day on Friday, and then invite everyone to hang out with us on the beach. We would rent surfboards, volleyballs, bocce, and whatever else we can come up with. Then we would cater the whole thing with a bbq and it would just be a fun time! It would be really casual though, and I am still trying to figure out logistics if it was raining. We have a friend that is doing their rehearsal dinner for a few thousand and i can't imagine spending that much. We could do this for less than a thousand easily, and that fits much better into my budget!

does anyone think this is a good idea?

Location
Stuff IS getting done... sort of
We paid our deposit on our location! We had to change our date, because it was already booked, but truthfully, I love our new date even more. (we were 6.13.09, now we are 6.20.09)

The site is fabulous because we get the beach without having to deal with weather, and most importantly tourists. The beach is so important to us- its where I grew up, and FH is a coastal engineer so its his career! Anyway, we are using a hotel/ resort and they are pretty much giving us the entire bottom floor of their condo building. I am so excited! And I got to go take pictures while it was set up for another wedding reception, although the room that is set up will be where our actual wedding ceremony is held. Look through the pictures!!

The plan for now (and i don't see this changing) is having the wedding ceremony in a room with windows facing the ocean. It will be beautiful regardless of the weather, and the windows are tinted from the outside so no one can see in and crash our party. From there, the guests will move to a terrace outside for hor'dourves while we go down to the beach and take pictures (weather permitting). Once we are wrapping up pictures, the guests will move into the reception room (a much bigger ballroom) and we will re-enter the building and have our grand entrance. I love it. Everything is together so no one has to drive- which in Myrtle Beach is a plus, especially for our out of town guests. And the resort has condos, villas, and regular hotel rooms for people to rent so hopefully most people will stay on the premises and can drink all they want and we dont have to worry!

Senior recital, graduation, wedding planning
its been a busy past week!
Not so much wedding related, but I graduated from college finally! It only took me 5 years :) Its a fabulous feeling to have it done with. Although I am going to stay in Myrtle for one more year to get my Masters/ teaching certification.

We have come up with some stuff for the wedding we like. Our ideas are finally starting to form into one scheme that represents us. There's still, obviously, a ton more decisions to make but we are getting closer to finding colors and a theme that totally represents us. I have included some of our inspiration pictures.

our colors (as of now): Aquamarine (pool), sage green, chocolate brown, and white. the green may get dropped. but we will see :)

We also found a location for the ceremony and reception that we LOVE. It was the first one we looked at and everything else after it just paled in comparison. Pictures of that will come later...

Yay us! :)

Color Shmolor
Help!
So darling Fiance wants to help me plan, which I love. Its so funny because I always had my own idea of how I wanted my wedding to be. But now that I have a ring and its time to actually plan, my whole thought process has changed. I want the day to represent US and not just what I want. So, I started asking FH what color scheme he would like. And sure enough, he had an opinion. So basically we have narrowed it down to what we DON'T want. And I can't quite come up with a color scheme that I absolutely LOVE. So ladies, I need your input!

To give you an idea of who we are and what we want, here are some tidbits of information:

-We LOVE the beach, FH is getting his PhD in Coastal Engineering, I grew up at the beach.
-Our wedding is not going to be outside at the beach but inside at a location where we can still see the ocean.
-We want a summery, late afternoon wedding, we definitely don't want this to be a formal affair.
-Blue definitely has to be one of the main colors, we want to keep that beach theme so blue would definitely represent the ocean.
-as per FH's input: NO pink, and no dark colors! haha

I added some pictures that I found for inspiration but I haven't been able to find something that really makes both of us think WOW, thats it! Pleaaaaase help us! THANK YOU!!

Congratulations!?!
I'm engaged! But now I have to plan a wedding!
Don't get me wrong, I am SO excited to be getting married to my best friend and soul mate. And I used to always dream about how I would plan my wedding, but now that it is here: AHHHHHH!

I am amazed, we set our date for June 13, 2009. I figured this would give me lots of time to plan and to take my time figuring out exactly what I wanted. But now that I am looking at these sites, so many girls with dates close to mine already have reception halls booked, photographers, florists, etc. I feel SO behind and I haven't even started!

I think we finally came up with a budget, I can't believe we are spending this money on 1 day. I am looking forward to the challenge of staying under budget though. My goal is to use the budget my FH came up with and surprise him at the end and have our honeymoon paid for with leftover money. It would be amazing. However, we are having our wedding in Myrtle Beach. So prices on everything are ridiculous. I had NO idea people did destination weddings in Myrtle Beach, either. Its so competitive for good vendors. I grew up here though, so I guess I have always just taken the place for granted. We are going on a search to try and pick out our reception & ceremony site next week. I am excited!

How are you ladies not getting overwhelmed by this whole planning business? Because I am pretty much on my own here. My fiance is very good and loves to give me his opinions but he lives 7 hours away, as does my immediate family now, so I really am here planning this wedding all by myself! Its crazy...
