Ask a Question
Do they really work?
About 8 months ago, I purchased the product "ProActive". Over the phone they guaranteed that this stuff works... So I used it twice a day. Once in the morning and once at night... I understand that it cleanses and some pimples will come up after the first couple months of use... Well it was well over 5 months and it seems it was just getting worse... So I did stop using the product. Does/has anybody else have this problem? So now I'm in a world of something lol! I have pimples that keep popping up now... I thought I was over this stage in life lol... Any suggestions? I just want my skin to be blemish free... And I want it way before the big day =)

*Update*
I've been using Clean & Clear Scrub... And let me tell ya. It works great... I've been using it twice a day for 4 days now and it has helped out a lot! Thanks so much for your emails and comments! You ladies are great!

My brother used proactive at one point years ago and I'm not sure how well it worked for him but I used the cleanser once and broke out it red dots a lot like chicken scratch all over my body!! It was terrible!!

I suggest going to a dermatologist to find the best option for you :) Everyone's skin is different :)

see if Witch's Hazel works for you and perhaps tanning. I am not saying bake yourself. Like once a week.

i LOVE Proactiv. I started using it when my acne got super bad in COLLEGE (never in high school - just the end of college) and the dermatologist wasn't working for me ... and it went away in 2 weeks! completely. i love it and have started using it recently so that I am sure to be blemish free for my wedding day in two weeks. I'm sorry that it hasn't worked for you ... perhaps your skin regimen has changed -- has it gotten more oily or more dry ? maybe you need to get the other kind of proactiv specific to your skin type.

It works great if your face isn't sensitive to benzoyl peroxide. It will make it worse.

I used it and it worked great!....for about a year, then after that it didn't work anymore.  I think  built up a resistance to it, like i do all acne medication so i have to consistantly switch it up.

I bought it right after our enagement thinking I'd start it now so I'd look great during our wedding a year from now, it was great for a few days then I started getting red burning speckles on my face when I used it and my cheeks would puff up like a chickmunk! I'm not sure if I had a bad reaction or what but I hate it the only thing that worked for me was the spot treatment which i use every now and then to spot treat big zits but I wouldnt waste your money.

My friend bought it and same thing happened to her. I think it depends on your skin.

i have been using it for awhile now. when i use it the way im supposed to it really works. but i usually get lazy at night and dont wash my face (which i know is the worse time not to). .. now you said that you use it twice a day. which is great. but some people react to things differently. so maybe you should try using it only at night. or maybe use less when you do use it. give it a try. or maybe call the 1-800 number and ask the 'experts' lol. GOOD LUCK!!!

My son is 17 and it worked for him for a while....what I did find that works better is Noxema. Wash your face twice a day  with it or better yet put it on at night and let it sit until morning.....my sons face cleared up in about 2-3 days and you know how teenage acne is.....resistant.  I hope it works for you

This is what iI posted on another brides blog recently...I SWEAR by it! :

I had a little acne in high school and slightly oily skin now. I have found what works for me and I will tell you what I use and why it works.

Face wash: Burt?s Bees Soap Bark & Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream.

I used salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide face washes in middle school and high school with okay, but HARSH results. No acne, but I had dry, dull, rough skin from all the chemicals. About 2 years ago I found Burt?s Bees face wash after years of using their lip balm, and thought, 'why not'. I have not turned back since! This face wash is all natural and cleans DEEP, but It has nothing to dry out the skin! Since using it, my skin is soft, NO visible pores (ask me for a close-up picture of my skin :P), NO acne, and my skin glows. I have no problem going barefaced for a quick run to the store or for a day out on the lake. Plus, it has a nice cool feeling after you rinse. It has no sodium laureth sulfate (what causes modern day soaps to suds up) which is good because that chemical began its career as an industrial de-greaser and garage floor cleaner!! Do you really want that on your FACE? Try it, it worked for me!! $7.99 at Walgreens!

Face Lotion: Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel
Great for oily skin. Oily skin needs moisture too!

Mattifier: Derm Doctor Tease-Zone.
For days I know I will need extra humidity protection, I use Derm Doctor Tease-Zone. Really keeps your face shine free for a long time. Works great as a primer under foundation too.

Makeup/Foundation: Estee Lauder Double Wear
I just found this a month ago, but I am sold forever. At $32 a bottle, it is expensive, but a little goes a long way with the foundation. It works great for my oily skin problems. I used to touch up a few times a day with powder, but with this, I never touch up anymore. I have used other products that claim to do the same thing, but they look cakey and dull. This one doesn't. I apply it with a foundation brush, and I look fresh. I can still see my skin underneath, it's just perfected! It is oil-free, and won't clog your pores. You can make it light coverage for the day, or heavier coverage at night. In fact, I will be using it for my wedding day, just because I know it will last and makes my skin beautiful. I LOVE IT!! Just do what I did and go to the Estee Lauder counter and do a color match. They will give you a 10 day supply vial to take home for free! Here are some other reviews about it:

Here are some more of my personal skin tips:

1. Wash your makeup brushes, sponges, etc.! Bacteria gather on these over time, causing breakouts. Plus, with a clean application, makeup goes on better.
2. Keep the phone off of your face! Ever notice the breakouts in the area where you hold your phone? Bacteria on the surface of the phone are the culprits!
3. Keep your hands off your face! Unless your hands are clean, never touch or rub your face. Your fingers touch everything. Imagine everything getting on your face! Eww!
4. Always wash your face and moisturize before bed, and make sure your pillowcase is clean!

I've heard a lot of negative reviews about Proactiv, so I never went that route; I HAD mild acne until I found my love: Neutrogena face wash & combination skin moisturizer!
