Ask a Question
How far is your ceremony/reception from home?
Brandon and I live in a small town in west texas. Our nearest walmart, mall, sams etc would be an hour away and for the bigger city we would have to travel 3 or more hours. Well, thats what we're planning. Our wedding and reception will be 3 hours east from us. I originally wanted my wedding in Colorado Springs, Co which will be 10 hrs or Oklahoma 6 hours. But if I did that Brandons side of the family would not attend because of the distance. So I thought it would be convient to drive 3 hours. Boy was I wrong... Heard from a little bird that some thinks its outrageous that I'm doing that... I'm trying to make everyone happy and ease on the driving time. I have family thats coming down from Oklahoma 3hr drive, my parents and a bridesmaid will be coming in from Colorado Springs well over 10 hrs, and a bridesmaid and her little family from PA not sure of the drive time and some from NJ... Whats 3 hours? Come on are you serious? I don't think anybody else is complaining and if so they'll tell me they won't be able to make it... I just don't understand some people... Is anybody else having issues about distance?

Ours is 35 minutes...45 in traffic.  Our wedding is in February, and although I hope there is snow on the ground, I hope we don't get a big storm on that day.
Originally we the trip would have been 20 minutes, but Nick's family were asking why we weren't getting married in a Catholic church...and Nick stood up for me saying that people normally have the Ceremony in the brides church etc.
So to prevent any problems, we are having it in "our parish".  I better not hear any complaints on the distance from his side of the family.

Mine is only 20 minutes from me, but at least an hour for most people. My fiance's parents will have to drive an hour and a half. My fiance and I are secretly hoping that the distance will help cut down on how many people will attend! I don't understand why people are complaining. It's your wedding and if it is that big of a deal they have the choice not to come! Good luck!

45 minutes away from home and for most guests it'd be 45 mins to 1 hour drive.

I'm actually getting married in my hometown of Claremont, CA, so my family only will  travel about 15 minutes, friends are coming from all over, FL, NY, VA, and Los Angeles (me and the groom). Plus my FH's family are coming from CT so needless to say a loooooooong distance lol

This is exactly why Im getting married away - people will always complain no matter what - if the whole thing was free you'd still have one idiot who'd have to have something to say. You do what you want and you know if people want to moan about it let it go over your head. No matter how hard you try you can't please everyone and once you and your H2B are happy thats all that should matter. We are going from Ireland to Mexico so you can imagine what some of your guests would have to say about that haha...maybe bring that up the next time someone has something to say ; )

My reception is 45 minutes from where all my family lives, and its only 25 minutes from the ceremony site. My grandma was complaining that "you're sure making the family trek pretty far". Umm it's a 45 minutes...theres a hotel literally up the street, if you have an issue with it, stay there, lol....I just don't get people sometimes. I don't think 3 hours is a big deal. I definitely would reserve a block of hotel rooms though, and include that info with your invites, that way your guests can get a discount on hotel room, an saves them from having to research a place to stay.
