Sky Lanterns - Yay! - KANNIS's Blue Wedding by Color Blog

So we checked on having the sky lanterns at our wedding and I guess we are all set :) The township said that it is okay and that they have had them before at the harbor and that they were beautiful! I am so excited :)

We will setting these off on the beach after the reception before everyone leaves. I cannot wait!

The meaning of releasing these into the sky is said to send your prayers and wishes to heaven :)

Thats really cool! How does it work?

They are made of rice paper that is flame resistant. They come already put together. There is a small piece of cardboard covered in wax that you light and as it burns you lift up the lantern so the inside can fill with hot air. Once it is filled you can let it go and they float up to the sky like a hot air balloon. The cardboard square will burn up within 5-10 min (depending on conditions) and then the lantern will fall back down. They are said to go pretty far and high. They are completely biodegradable so are not harmless to the earth. You are only to let them off in the best of conditions...no wind and no rain and fairly warm weather (around 72 degrees is best.)
