Money, Money, Money!!!
budget and planning??? HELP

After last week's adrenaline high, this week Daniel and I have sat down, picked a date and discussed budgeting for the wedding. Both of our parents live quite modestly, so we aren't going to ask them to contribute any money and we refuse to get a loan from the bank because we need to buy a house after the wedding. We have picked a date 2 years away because I am still at University and only work part time, therefore we need this time to save the money for the wedding! 2 years before the big day and I have no idea where to start or if I should start planning?? How long does it really take to plan a nice wedding? HELP!!! Will I be able to have the wedding of my dreams for a budget of $15 000?? I would love to hear people's opinions and personal stories about this.

We are planning our wedding in about a year and a half in advance but I'm being kinda lazy about it so you could plan it in less. Our wedding will cost about 5k and still be really elegant and classy. Wwe are inviting about 80 people. All I can say is DIY.

This should be possible. We got engaged in Dec. 2008. and we are getting married in Aug.2009. Our budget was origanally $6000 after a 7 day honeymoon to Mexico. Our wedding and honeymoon with be about $11,000.  I splurged on photos and we are inviting more people then orignally thought (was 80 now 130, so far).

Well, I'd say start with your budget but since you seem to have that figured out, I'd start talking about colors. Once we got that figured out, we each made a list of what we wanted if money were not an issue. Then we sat down together and crossed out the items that were definitely not going to happen, and compromised on the reset. I also agree with Mrsatwater about the DIY. If you're crafty or know someone who is, do as much DIY that you can if it will save you money. However make sure you look into it before you begin. There are instances where, once you buy all the materials needed, it may end up costing the same as having a professional do it. So, definitely do your homework.

I would say that should be a good budget! One thing you can do is put it into the budget calculator on theknot.com and see how it looks. It will break it all down for you. Also I'd go ahead and start planning! I've given myself a year and I've still been major stressed! Plus its nice to be able to just relax and have fun with it! Happy Planning!

a wedding of 15,000 is totally do-able.
with the time you have to plan - just keep your eye on deals & sales.
go to all the bridal expos you can - they give away big prizes that could save you big money.

Well you have 2 years to get everything done and if your really tight on money all I can say is DIY. Luckily because you have so much  time you can start now, for instance my mom has been going around to thrift stores and antique shops picking up vases and platters and all sorts of nice things that way when the wedding is here all we have to do is go into the garage, take the stuff out and set up we won't be spending much at all for the reception because it's in my parents backyard and we are getting all the little things from antique shops. Hope everything works out...Good Luck!!
