Ask a Question
Save vs Splurge
Here's my question:
What are you SAVING and what are you SPLURGING on in your wedding?
I'll start.
SAVE: Deffo on my DRESS, BM dress, shoes, flip-flops, Flower girl dresses. All sourced on Ebay and saved a huge amount. My dress is actually from an authorised retailer who saved me a good £500 ($1000) on my dress alone, and then another $100 on the BM dress.
The VENUE was a great find and cost us nothing, also got great discounts as my best friend is the PR of the Hotel.
I'll save on DECORATION, again sourcing lights, ribbons, mirrors etc from Ebay and DIY-ing most of them.

SPLURGE: WEDDING RINGS. I am a sucker for diamonds and so is H2B so we're going for full-on bling. The rings will cost around £2000 ($4000) and a friend of mine is making them so they're much cheaper than they would be in a store (so I guess it's a SAVE after all, lol).
ALCOHOL. LOL. Gotta have the champagne flowing...
And last but not least, we are having an 8-minute FIREWORK display over the fountain in the park of the Hotel.

How about you?

Of COURSE I am the first to write... its 3am here... what time is it for you?

ok YAY
SPLURGE-HAiR...I am Getting Extensions, even though one of my BM's does hair (for a fabulous salon Toni & Guy) The actual costs some $$$ Plus I have paying for it if any of the girls want color/cut/style/blow-out whatever they want for the wedding.... I am getting a deal but its still way more then most people do! I am also splurging on teeth & tanning before the wedding (laser lightening) the reception and ceremony site (its pretty and they include A LOT) I am going to splurge on a DJ & Photographer

Neither Splurge nor Save: Dress, Shoes, Gifts, Favors & Flowers
My wedding band may end up being a splurge... haven't priced it out yet

SAVE: packaging, invitations, ribbon, Kevins ring...it has to be some other metal b/c he is plumber (a studly union plumber) haha but his work is not good for jewelry, we are also saving on the honeymoon (a cruise) although I am still waiting for some ideas on that :)

You are SCORING on your venue!! I want to go there now!

Of course you're invited, it's only a 12-hr flight, lol.
Loving the teeth whitening, that's a good idea!

Hmm, we saved on our site, flowers (it is in a garden), photography (friend), invitations (friend), and food (friend of a friend)! So we were doing pretty good...
And then we splurged on: honeymoon (hey, you only get 1), bridesmaid and groomsmen gifts, my dress, DJ.
Give and take, right? The  meaning of marriage...!

Save: invitations, honey moon, save-a-dates, maybe food and alcohol-depending on the venue, hopefully the dress, wedding bands, flower girl dress, center pieces, flowers- most all because someone in the family is taking care of or making them

Splurges: the music- unless we can't get the band we want, alcohol if we can't bring it in, hotel for wedding party and us, spa treatment (hopefully!) for bridesmaids
I have a few people tell me the photgrapher is good to splurge on- we're undecided, there are several awesome picture takers in my family

In the middle: venues, probably the dress, food - if we can't bring it

Although a lot of people think my whole wedding is a splurge there are a lot of things we are saving money on.

Save: Invitations and other stationary (a friend from high school is a printer), flowers (a friend from high school has her own business), transportation/limo, rehersal dinner, ceremony (no flower girl or ring bearer), cake (its included with the price for the reception), groomsman gifts (I got a deal on Fossil watches and the gym rental for their basketball tournament), video (its not that important just want raw footage no editing), veil, jewerly, garter (making my own)

Average: My dress, shoes, gifts for girls, favors, rings, hair and makeup, wedding night hotel room, hair, tux, his wedding band

Splurge: Photography, Food/drinks at the reception, honeymoon, DJ, makeup (I'm paying for all the girls), parent gifts, coordinator, my wedding band

SAVE: the DJ, bridesmaids dresses, accessories, Photographer, officiant, reception decorations, invitations, cake- we found a place that does beautiful wedding cakes and doesn't cost a fortune..

SPLURGE: Wedding dress, Our wedding rings,Reception and ceremony site, Alcohol, videographer, honeymoon

save: wedding dress (orig. going for the vera wang, ended up at DB and got my dress, veil, shoes, and slip all around $500), wedding bands (found them online plus opted to go with plain white gold band because a diamond one prob. would have looked a little tacky with the honker of an engagement ring fiance decided to buy - because he splurged i get to save so yay matthew! and his tungsten wedding ring was orig. $400 but i found his on sale for around $180 i think). cake - cost me $250 for both cakes and one will be shaped like a corvette (for matthew)..we really lucked out on getting the cakes so cheap and everyone says they make the most delicious cakes.

splurge: i guess pampering - airbrushed makeup, hair, manicure pedicure but in a way i guess i'm saving because i won't be whitening my teeth (i have extremely white teeth as it is for whatever reason, i've actually had a dentist tell me i have movie star teeth which i thought was hilarious) and i won't be tanning in any shape or form (don't get me started on this subject).  plus i'm going to schedule a waxing before the wedding for the honeymoon.   we also splurged on the honeymoon (week long cruise)...we're actually not splurging too much because we're going to be buying a house on the water on padre so def. don't mind pinching pennies here and there!

SAVE: Reception Hall & food - Hall is nice but can bring own food so we are having some ladies from church cook :); Photographer - I was prepared to pay top dollar, then came upon a lady highly recommended and does great work from a small town near Omaha that ended up being only $1000!!!;  Veil - Thanks to blog from DebbieV I am purchasing my veil from a lady who makes them and sells on ebay...I'm spending $40 rather than $185 YAY!; transportation - we got a 32 passenger bus from Arrow Stage Lines for only $550; DJ - only $350, again someone from a small town and friend of my mom!!

AVERAGE: Flowers; favors; invitations

SPLURGE: Rings - I love diamonds!!; I guess dress - I planned on keeping it around 500 but ended up being 800; depending on how over budget I am this time next year, I may purchase all of the hair styling for my 8 b-maids & jr b-maid, and get them gift & jewelry on top of that; honeymoon - still undecided as to where we're going though!; save the dates were 200 instead of 60 because I went with magnets & love them!
