Ask a Question
Loosing Weight

As you all can tell by the picture I'm not exactly the leanest person out there. Glen and I decided that we were not going to get married before we loose weight.

My question is what regimen worked for you?

I could stand to loose about 60 pounds but know that is unrealistic but would like to loose at least 20 pounds in 14 months.

I would like to hear them all, diets, workouts, meditation and other ways you lost weight.

I am on the heavy side as well and I went to a bridal show and won a herbal magic program. That has helped me lose weight. The recipes they gave me are fantastic!
FH and I are also doing Hip Hop Abs and I have pictures to show my progress and you can really see a difference!
I get ridiculously discouraged when I cant do something work out related so thankfully Hip hops abs is fun enough to make me want to keep going!
Basically it all comes down to eating right and exercise. I can email you some of the recipes if you want.

Good luck!

I also do Hip Hop Abs! I like it because it's relatively easy and it's pretty fun. It kind of brings in club like moves. I don't know how good of a workout it is but it's a fun alternative.

I think you definately have to look at diet whenever your looking to lose weight. If you don't change your diet you can work out religiously and not really get anywhere. I like the website myfitnesspal.com for tracking food and exercise, you can add friends and follow them so you stay more accountable to your plan.

Honestly, I'm not really overweight. My FH is ver healthy and keeps me motivated, however I find that Yoga and Pilates is the best workout I've come across, It's really helped my posture, and also help me get toned. It's the biggest stress reliever ever!! I swear.. my best advice to you would be to cut soda from your diets, my FH and I don't drink any soda and since he dropped soda he's lost 10 pounds, we also don't do fast food and try to work out at least 3x's a week, he's a runner.. I'm not really but try to do a little bit of cardio (running) just to keep up with him.  People think that just not eating will help them loose weight but that's not true, healthy really is a lifestyle change.

Hey!  I couldn't help but post since I've been on a working out kick for almost the past year.  It's possible to loose eight or so pounds a month healthily (depending on your body type and how much you have to loose) so in 14 months you could definitely loose most than 20 lbs.  The key is to be consistent.  And to push yourself.  I workout at least five to six times a week and I mix cardio and weights and I have to push myself.  Break a sweat when you work out.  And workout every day if you can.  Otherwise, you won't see results.  And do something you like and can tolerate, otherwise you won't stick with it.  Try to find something that mixes cardio, weights, and some flexibility.  I found I don't do well working out on my own, so my fiance and I started going to cardio circuit classes together.  We get to spend time together and someone else tells me what to do and I'm motivated to push myself because there are other people around me working hard.  And circuit classes combine cardio spurts with weight excercises (which works well for me because I hate running!)

Also, you have to eat right.  Unfortunately, that takes a lot of self control.  There really is no easy way to do it.  Sometimes refining your diet takes time.  I started by just cutting out dessert, chocolate, really sugary things, and drinks I didn't need to have.  And now I've worked up to a super clean eating plan without much sugar at all.  I eat five to six small meals a day and each one has a little bit of carbs (from things like brown rice, greek yogurt, or certain fruits and vegetables).

It's definitely different for everyone and this is what has just worked for me.  And it took a long time to get to this point.  I used to only work out sporadically, eat not so great and get really frustrated when I didnt loose weight.  I took a triathlon class one semester and got super frustrated when I didn't loose weight.  So the big key is finding what works for you, what you like and just doing it every day.  Pretty soon it becomes a habit and you just don't feel right unless you've been working out.

If you want an idea on meals and you want some workout tips, feel free to find Camie Cragg from Reno, NV on facebook.  I've been working with her too and she's amazing.  She is super devoted to helping inspire people to be fit and she posts different things like meal plans and workout tips all the time.

So far I've lost 21 lbs in 10 months and I'm still going.  And I haven't weighed below 170 since highschool.  Good luck!  I know you can do it!

It's still early here, so I realized I posted at the bottom that I haven't weighed below 170 since HS, but i didn't really talk about my weight...for context, I weighed 194 at my peak.  When I started working out last year, I weighed 188.  I'm down to 167 right now.  I used to think I was just built bigger and would never weigh what I did in highschool/early college since I couldn't lose weight.  Turns out I just wasn't being honest with myself and consistent with working out and eating well.

First I should say, I am not an expert, by any means!  But you can lose 1-2 lbs a week easily.  But it does involve work!  There is no easy answer.

I don't know what your food intake is like, but if you hold yourself accountable (start counting calories) It really makes a difference.  There are many website that let you figure out how many calories you should take in daily. My suggested ranges from 1400-1700 cals a day.

A few things that really worked for me are: Don't eat 5 hours before bedtime. Stop eating out! Start drinking more water (2L a day)! Switch to diet soda, Switch to brown bread, brown pasta, brown rice, eat more vegtables. And of course, get a gym membership and work out for an hour 4-5 times a week.  Start at 30 minutes if that is all you can fit in.  I do a mix of  the ellyptical, treadmill, bike, stairmaster, (with some weights thrown in twice a week for toning)  GOODLUCK!

That is VERY DOABLE!! You can SO do that!! Last year it took me 6 months to lose 45lbs. I've unfortunately had a lot of stress from family illnesses and gained half back, but I'm back on the road to losing it. Check out www.sparkpeople.com. It's 100% free. There is a lot of good information on there, and a lot of support. They give you ranges to stay in with calories, fat, carbs and fat. They can even provide a free meal plan if you want. There is free workout videos too. If you eat 1500 calories a day, you should theoretically lose a pound a week. I also HIGHLY recommend 'The 30 Day Shed' by Jillian Micheals workout DVD. I lost A LOT of weight with it, and it only cost like $11.00.

I'm getting married in July and started my regime in January.  I have lost 20 lbs. so far and plan on about 10 more.  I actually went to a nutrionist who I see on a weekly basis.  I live in Toronto, Canada, but I'm sure you can find one anywhere.  Mine cost $180 for 12 weeks but I get weekly consultations and he plans what I can/can't eat (I have a list of choices).  Because I answer to him weekly, I find it's easier to stay on track (plus, he even helps me sort out what to order from restaurant menus if I show them to him in advance).  That combined with 30-60 mins. on an elliptical has resulted in the 20 lbs. shed.  I would strongly recommend it and quite frankly wish I had done it sooner.  I'm not disciplined on my own and I hate the gym (but I do like sports)... for me, this is working but you'll really have to find what is best for you.  Good luck!
