I found this on myjeanm.com. It's perfect for our wedding because we're using green and pink. You can't see it too well in the picture, but there is a pink shimmer when you look at it a certain way. I think we'll use this for everything from invites to thank yous.

I'm so excited. I got my christmas pressy early. A Print Gocco B6!! I know they are discontinuing all the supplies so I'm going to stock up while I can. I even found a place that sells tons of ink. I'm SUPER excited about it!! Now I can DIY my Invites, napkins, coasters... everything!!! I'm SO excited!! Now I just have to wait for it to travel across the pacific from Japan. *sigh*

So, one of our options for reception venue is the parish hall behind the church. It's great because we would only have to donate to the church and I don't think Father Lawler will accept much because he was the one who told BJ he wouldn't accept any money for the annulment as we had kids to think about. Anyway, we'd save quite a bit of money that way but there are challenges. I was asked if we use the parish hall what we're going to do about dishes. Well, we had discussed this before and thought about getting plastic or cheap glass. It comes down to two options. Option 1: My uncle owns a bed and breakfast and can get us dinnerware at wholesale pricing. Option 2(the one I like better): Since we still have a while until the wedding as the date got moved back... we're thinking of looking around for mismatch china at thrift stores and flea markets. As plates usually go for 50 cents or less, we'll get them for cheaper and they'll look cute. It will also give it a elegant vintage feel

BJ and I used to work for the same company before I was laid off. When we both worked there, they would give us safety awards each month (if there were no accidents, obviously) in the form of a walmart gift card. Anyway, this is what we were buying with those gift cards - Libbey Claret water goblets. You see, we've got two choices for a reception venue(that we've narrowed it down to). Option one is a local restaurant where they have the glasses in the other picture. They're something I picture at a pizza place or sports bar (for soda), not a wedding. The other venue is the parish hall behind the church and they have nothing. The best part is that they are $3.98 for a four pack so they are cheaper than the dollar store. After the wedding, we might sell some on ebay but keep a few for holidays and such. PS. we're getting the matching flutes too ***UPDATE*** To answer questions... if we go with the parish hall, we found where we can get dinner plates and salad plates at a really great wholesale price. Because my uncle owns a bed and breakfast, he can get them for us at the wholesale rate (less than $1 each) We've also been looking around at thrift stores for mismatch china because you can get plates for like 25cents each and they look cute mismatched

I've made up my mind. I'm doing it. I'm going to buy a Print Gocco. I know they are discontinuing them. I know they are discontinuing the supplies but I'm hoping I'll be able to hoard enough to last me a while(mainly the screens and bulbs because I found out you can use speedball block printing ink!). I'll be using it for invites, napkins, rsvps, envelopes, thank yous, gifts for my BMs and FG and when the wedding's over, I'll use it for cards, invites and everyday graphic arts needs. :D I <3 Gocco.

We received the first letter from the church today stating that the request for a church annulment of BJ's previous marriage is about to be accepted by the Tribunal (meaning it's been accepted to go to "trial"). The paperwprk was submitted in the spring of this year. It goes on to state that "The ground upon which a decision will be issued will be officailly formulated on December 17th, 2008". We should be receiving two more letters. I'm really really really hoping this goes through. When BJ spoke with Father Lawler, he said there is no reason it shouldn't based on the evidence but I just worry about it because it's something I don't have control over. I'm just so anxious because this is what is holding us back. We've not been able to book anything and I've been very hesitant to buy much because we don't know if this is going to go through. I guess we'll just have to keep waiting and hoping....

Garter... - with a vintage feel

I absolutely LOVE this garter. I found it on etsy.com. It is in the exact colors we're using too!! YEA!!!!! ***UPDATE*** I found this exact lace online. I can do the same thing myself and have extra for a tossing garter instead of paying $25 each. :D

NWR - But I got an 85%!! - Now for the next step...

This is not wedding related but I took a civil service exam for the county and ended up with an 85% on it. I go back on the 6th of December for the typing test. I have to be able to type 45 WPM but I can type upwards of 65! :D What makes it even more exciting is that someone my FH works with said his wife took it, got a 78% and was hired within a month. I'm really hoping I'll get a job soon. I'm also going to take the state exam for keyboard specialist. At least I know the type of questions on the exam. The "study guide" was so outdated... there was a ton on typewriters and carbon copies and setting margins, etc. I didn't need any of that. Ah well. Oh.. and with the state exam, you only have to be able to type 35 WPM. That seemed a little low to me but I won't complain. I can do that with my eyes closed. :D

Ask a Question - Bridesmaid dresses... which color??

So, I've been thinking about something quite a bit lately... Bridesmaid dresses. I don't want the girls to have to spend a fortune on something they won't wear again so I'm thinking of adding brown or grey in with the pink and green because, honestly, you're more apt to wear a brown or grey dress again over a pink or green. So.... this is the question.... which color dress should I go with?? The ribbon will be either pink or green. ***Update*** I've added the darker grey and also the green. The pic of the pink isn't available but I'll try to add something of the same color.

Ask a Question - Alcohol or not?

Something we've been discussing is whether or not we want to have alcohol at our reception. The problem is that BJ's friends like to drink. We're not talking a drink or two... we're talking drinking until they can't walk. They also tend to buy drinks for him and he thinks nothing of drinking 10 SoCo and limes within 2 hours because of this. He weighs 140lbs so it doesn't take much for him to get drunk. I don't want that on our wedding day. He also smokes when he drinks(YUCK!!) One big plus is that we could then use the parish hall for the reception and save a ton of money. What do you think? **UPDATE** One thing about alcohol... if we decide to go with the parish hall and they allow alcohol, we still may not have it for the main fact that we are responsible for our guests. I don' t want to deal with people driving under the influence and having us being held responsible for their actions.

I'm Confused - Jack and Jill or Stag and Doe

I 'm very confused about these two things. I understand that a Jack and Jill party is a couples shower. I also understand that a Stag and Doe is the same as a bachelor/bachelorette party. What I don't understand is what is acceptable at both. I've been reading online that people have had jack and jill parties where they charge $10 or so, have guests pay for drinks, games, raffles, etc and then I have read other pages that state this is not acceptable for a Jack and Jill but is acceptable for a Stag and Doe. So, I'll ask you all since I've not heard of a Jack and Jill until today(although I think it's a great idea). What's the etiquette for a Jack and Jill party as far as paying for tickets, drinks, etc? A stag and doe?

I'm trying to keep things very DIY, simple and rustic(ie. grass and apples in place of green flowers, moss, rocks, branches, grapevine, birch, etc). Oh.. and the halo around the pink sash on the dress is because it's an overlay I did super quick in photoshop. The actual color is dark blue(which is what you see around the pink). I really love the idea of the garland made from old book pages.

I was just looking at halloween costumes at buycostumes.com and came across these shoes. They are part of the Marie Antoinette costume but I know there are a few of you out there who are using Marie Antoinette as inspiration and thought you might like to know since they're only $42 compared to some $100+ bridal shoes. ***UPDATE*** So I think I've decided on these shoes. I'm now torn between the ivory, the pink or the blue(something blue). Which do you all think would look better with a white dress?

Here are a few random things I've found on the web I'm thinking about for our wedding or would like but might not necessarily have. I think the ties are going to be a definite as it's the closest I've been able to find for the green we're using and they make them in kids sizes too for my two boys. If we go with the grapevine napkin rings, I'm going to make them myself as we have grapevine growning in our yard. I also love the hairpins and am thinking of DIYing those as well. If they turn out, I'll make them for my BMs too.

Cupcakes - finding ways to trim down an already small budget

I am making cupcakes for my son to take to school tomorrow and started thinking about how many cupcakes a box of cake mix made/number of people being invited/cost of said cake mix/etc and decided it was WICKED inexpensive to make my own cupcakes instead of ordering a cake. I know it will be one more thing to stress over but if I can get family and friends to help out (which I'm sure I could) then I'll be golden. Now... just to convince BJ of that. He's currently thinking about it. I've told him that we can still have a small layer cake to cut into as well. The way I look at it, there isn't much to think about. If it's going to save money, let's do it! Especially since we have no money to put toward the wedding curently. Ps. I want glitter like in the frosting in the pic

Well, the last few months have thrown some things my way including both BJ and I being laid off. We had a long talk about what our priorities are and where we would be cutting back. Things like heat, food, house, cars, bills, christmas and our kids all came up. We decided that since we haven't heard about the annulment yet, that we would take the money we had set aside for our wedding (we had a smaller budget) and spend it on what we need instead of what we want. So, this leaves a few things up in the air. Hopefully the economy will get straightened around, he'll get called back and I can find something new that pays the same or better. I'm just taking things day by day and hoping for the best.

So, we're still waiting to hear whether or not BJ's going to be granted the annulment from his first wife. The priest we spoke to said we should have no problem. I am so hoping he is right. We should be hearing any time now and I'm just getting so anxious! ***UPDATE*** Another month has gone by and still nothing. *Sigh* ***2nd Update*** It's now Nov 16th.... nothing... We're supposed to receive 3 letters and have not gotten one.

I still haven't made a final decision as to whether or not Tracy is going to be my MOH but I'm leaning toward yes as my sister hasn't even mentioned the wedding in months and also Jason(the guy in the photos), tracy's husband, is the best man. Kind of makes sense.

Okay... the problem: Tracy = bridesmaid Jason = Best Man Alani = flower girl They are all the same family. Tracy-mom, Jason-dad, Alani- daughter plus they have three other kids. So, money is the actual problem. So we're trying to find ways to help keep costs down. Here's an example of the flower girl dress we're looking at. I might end up making it myself. I like it because it's simple and shouldn't cost too much to make. I was thinking of replacing the flowers with a crystal brooch thought. Not too fond of those flowers.

The Kilt... - ... and the compromise.

So, we've discussed it. BJ's not so thrilled about wearing a kilt even though he was the first to come up with the idea. We've seriously been thinking about changing our colors to purple and green as those are two colors in the Jackson tartan. We have decided that if we do change to purple and green, we are going to have our two boys wear kilts instead of the groom and groomsmen. Like I said though, it's still up in the air. There is also another tartan we are considering... it's called dark shadow dark island. It's a black on black tartan and the name is kind of something that ties into the area we live in. Not far from here is a place called Dark Island, where Singer Castle is. We were thinking about spending a night or two there depending on the price for part of our honeymoon. UPDATE: My FH has decided he'd like to wear a kilt! (whoo hoo!) He doesn't want to change the colors we've decided on so he wants to wear the black on black tartan pictured over there! <-----

Okay.. so my best friend (who happens to be the wife of BJ's best friend) had a birthday party for her son on Saturday. It just so happens that BJ's ex-wife was there (she married one of BJ's friends and is now cheating on him - go figure) and she knows of the wedding because of the annulment. So, I was standing on the deck watching the kids play in the yard when she came out and leaned against the railing next to me. The conversation went a little like this: her: "So....are you guys still having the wedding?" me: "Yes." (Pause) her: "When is it again?" me: "May 00th." (pause) her: "Next May?" me: "Yes" (Pause - I think in the pauses she was waiting for me to elaborate) her: "Where are you having the reception at?" me: "The stone fence" her: "OH! That's where we (meaning her and her current husband) had our rehersal dinner." (silence) After that she walked away because I didn't say anything more. You'd think she'd get the hint that I don't really want to talk to her. She's not invited to the wedding even though, according to Tracy, she seems to think she is. Oh, and she is talking about how she wants to help with the planning as well. What the hell?! This is the same girl who, when BJ and I first got together, was telling everyone how much she hated me, etc, even though she was pregnant with her current husband's baby and she and BJ had been divorced for a while. All I have to say is that she had better stay away from me and forget about helping with my wedding. I don't want to have to deal with psychos, especially her.

So I've been thinking about my something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. I've recently been given some things of my grandmother's... one of those things being a tin of buttons(she was big on sewing and my sister and I used to play with these tins of buttons ever since I can remember). I found a really pretty blue button that I'm thinking of sewing into the liner of my dress. The question is, should I use it for my something old as well? Or should I have four separate things(old, new, borrowed, blue)?

I found this on Etsy (ARTISANS A GO-GO)... I know, I'm addicted to Etsy. I admit it. I think it's a great alternative to a boutonniere for your guy if he's into fishing. It's different, unique and lets his personality shine through. I thought it was a great idea and it made me think of my dad. :D

Since we are being married in the spring, there is a big chance it will rain. I've been to my fair share of spring weddings in northern NY and just about every one had rain. Although I hear rain is supposed to be good luck on your wedding day, I've come up with a back up plan for shoes. Well, for outside anyway... super cute rubber boots!

Okay... well, within the last month my grandmother passed away, I got laid off and now my FH has been laid off. We both worked for the same company but I figured since he had nearly 6 years there, he'd be okay. Apparently I shouldn't think. So, now everything has come to a stand still. With an uncertain financial future, I'm more concerned about paying our mortgage and other bills than I am saving for the wedding. I guess we'll be using some of the wedding money to pad unemployment checks until we both find new jobs. *sigh*

Two Ring Bearers and a Flower Girl - The boys and Alani

Okay.. so in a previous post, I added photos of my boys who are going to be the ring bearers. My best friend's little girl is going to be our flower girl. She's the same age as my oldest (5) and they get along great. I think it's because she has three brothers. Although she's nicknamed Princess Buttercup, she's such a tomboy but London thinks the world of her.
