Should We Serve the Cake???
We have a three tier chocolate wedding cake and our reception costs include dessert. We are having trouble trying to figure out if we should serve the cake or just the dessert. The day after the wedding we are having a gift opening at my parents house. We were thinking about not cutting the cake at the reception and bringing it home to serve the next day at our gift opening. Our next problem is what kind of dessert should we serve if we opt out of serving the cake at the reception.

What do you think and any suggestions?

***UPDATE***

Sorry ladies...we will still do our photos of the cake cutting and still cut a piece to eat for the pictures. But the cake cutting for everyone else I won't be doing myself at the reception if we do decide to cut it up. This will be a job for my bridesmaids to cut and serve. I don't want to stand there for 30 minutes cutting cake for 150 people. Besides chocolate cake and white wedding dress just don't mix! I would end up being covered in it. hehe.

Yes-serve the cake :)

One spectacular aspect of being a bride is actually getting to cut the wedding cake on the day of your wedding. Do you really want to loose this thunder? I mean no photos of you and the groom cutting your cake on your wedding day? It would be a lost tradition on your part-that's for sure. Also, I am sure your reception guests will want a peice of your wedding cake on your wedding day :)

I think eating good cake is the best part of the food at a reception.... but its up to you girl! Perhaps you can have a seperate tier made for your gift opening the next day or the top of the tier is for the next day?

usually your caterer will cut the cake for everyone else for you so that you don't have to deal with the hassle of it.

Ummm the best part of a wedding is to eat the dessert provided then when the wedding cake comes out to say, OOPS I didn't know and get MORE dessert guilt free. Hey, you can't not eat the bride's cake. Ba ha ha.

On another note, my mom, my nana, my aunts all froze their peice and ate it on our first wedding anniversary. Supposed to be some weird family tradition that brings luck to the bride and groom. Not sure if you've heard of that or not or if anyone wants to do that ... just a thought.
