save the dates

when is too early??

We are getting married 8/1/09 and I'm thinking we'll probably send them out around the first of the year, if not sooner. Probably totally earlier than needed, but we have an odd situation: One of my FI's friend's brothers is getting married on the same day, so we probably will be inviting a lot of mutual acquaintances. If that wasn't a big deal, I'm thinking we'd probably send them in Feb or March.

It also kind of depends if you are getting married far away, so if people need to be able to make travel arrangements to come.

We are getting married on Sept 5 of 2009...we are sending ours out as our Christmas cards.  We are going to do the holiday photo cards and make them into save the dates/happy holidays.  I'm not sure if it's too early or not but thats what we decided to do!

My parents got a save the date for a destination wedding a year before the date, I am getting married at a destination wedding and I didnt send out save the dates but my invites with all the info 10 months before hand to give ppl time to book and save etc.. if you are getting married locally though you wouldnt need to give people as much notice as that obviously

Hello! We are getting married on the same day!!! Yay! I sent my save-the-dates out last month. They are usually sent out one year before the wedding to give out of town guests enough time to save and put in for vacation time. ;)
