I have lately been thinking that deep indigo or dark cobalt blue bridesmaid dresses (but not royal blue) might look nice for a summer wedding, paired with really bright summary flowers (think orange calla lillies and irises). Is this too bold?

Blue and yellow (and also orange) looks good together!! Really summer colors: blue as the sea, yellow/orange as the sun :o)
