Wedding Flowers
Tip-Toe through the Tulips {or Hydrangeas or Garden Roses}

This past Saturday we could officially check another box on our to do list or otherwise known as "List of Wedding Schtuff "

Unfortunately, I was sick (and still am) so I couldn't make it to the deposit and contract signing. BUT, we officially have a florist! I was hoping that we could have some DIY flowers, but I gave myself a reality check and am pretty sure this is the best way to go. I'm still thinking about DIY-ing the bouquets and boutonnieres though -- those cost crazy amounts done by a florist. So, if I can't swing a deal then I'll be doing it and getting some help from the bridesmaids.

The question now is what is my vision?! What can we afford!? That'll be the next conversation: floral budget.

I'm thinking that the girls will have petite bouquets -- not the normal size. I think it's sweet, romantic, and more modern than the regular size -- and more cost effective to boot! woohoo! :)

However, here's some flowers that I absolutely adore and would LOVE to have...and most are in season!

- hydrangeas
- garden roses
- cascading amaranthus
- dusty miller
- tulips
- sweetheart roses
- dahlias
- light pink/white hypericum berries
- lisianthus
- sweet peas
- ranunculus
...and if all goes well, succulents!! I heart succulents!

And here's my inspiration photos. *sigh* I hope I can get something just as lovely. I'm sure I will...my florist is AMAZING! :) (click on the thumbnails if you want a closer look)

I was lucky, my sister is a florist :)

We used dahlias, a few in the bouquets, but mainly for centerpieces. I googled dahlia clubs in the area and called one of the farms that grew the giant ones.
Called her up and asked if she would let me buy some for my wedding, wasn't expecting a great deal, but the wholesalers wanted $500 for 60.
She gave me about 80 for $40! Plus a bunch of smaller ones.

The only flower we had to end up ordering in were roses and freesia, my sister raided her garden for lysimachia and honeysuckle.

For our centerpieces it will be diy, picking up flowers fresh from the market in the morning since our ceremony isn't until 4 and arranging them at the venue, and my bouquet will by diy too going to attempt to make it out of brooches love your inspiration pics

@Krista -- ooh, you lucked out on your sister and  those dahlias! And it's tough to find a wholesale anything in this area. I've been looking and it's really disappointing.

@ Elly -- I wish, wish wish we could do DIY centerpieces to save money -- but I know I'll be crazy and the girls will be crazy and I KNOW that I won't want to be doing centerpieces myself (because i'm just that much of a perfectionist control freak ...think Monica from Friends...but not as bad) even with help on the day of the wedding. I'll want to be relaxing and enjoying my day...not being crazed by flowers. However, that's just me. If you can do it then by all means! I'm so jealous! hah. :)

I'm going to try, try, try to do the bouquets and bouts! It shouldn't be hard to do it the night before.

Ooh! brooch bouquet! those are so lovely!

All of your inspiration pics are gorgeous! I'm sure you will be able to get what you want. And I'm sure doing little bouquets the night before won't be too difficult. :)
We're not having a lot of flowers. I'm having a bouquet and will probably have it done by a lady who lives near my grandmother. My girls are carrying pinwheels. And we might have a few daisy stems on the tables but that would be it.

@Brittany -- I wish I didn't love flowers so much. I wish I had tons of money to have even more flowers! lol. I adore flowers so much, it's insane. Plus, after the wedding's over I'm planning on having the flowers donated to the local senior's center for them to enjoy in their rooms. So it's not a waste. I get so bummed when the flowers get tossed at the end of the night.

Love your ideas for the girls and a few daisies here and there. Sounds lovely! :)

I also have limited faith in my flower DIYing abilities, and got a florist too :))
Your flower inspiration photos are gorgeous, and I love white flowers. We are having blue and brown vases, and white flowers will look gorgeous in brown vases. I also love tulips, my favourite flower of all time, and plan on using it everywhere I can.

Joy, that is so sweet to donate them. I think it is a waste to just throw them all away. They will love that.

I do like flowers. We're just trying to do things for as cheap as possible and I like a lot of other things too so I figured we could do other things and get away with not having a ton of flowers. :)

@Yulia -- i have confidence in my DIY capabilities....it's just that it'll be too much for me to tackle. 200 guests = 20 tables. and then factor in the night before and regular wedding stuff...um. no. i'd rather be relaxing! :)

I looove tulips! one of my favourite flowers!

@Brittany -- makes sense. who doesn't like flowers?! i think even people who are allergic to flowers still find them pretty. :) But I'm sure whatever you choose to do it'll be gorgeous!
