So as I said, we are trying to do a bicultural, bilingual, green, socially-conscious wedding. Whew - that's a mouthful! So anway - here are our ideas for keeping it green and ethically-sourced:
- Used/rented dresses and tuxes
- Local food for the reception
- Recycled invitations/wedding website
- Fair-trade/ethically sourced flowers
- Fair-trade/used items for centerpieces
- Donation in name of guests in lieu of traditional favors
- Eco-friendly bubbles blown as we exit the church
Things I'd like feedback on:
- Ecofriendly transportation for guests and bridal party
- Places to find used dresses?
- Has anyone done these things? How did they work?
- Anything I'm missing?!
Thanks guys! This is such a great forum!
keep us updated with your choices! i may steal some of them!
We bought Heys' 3 piece EcoCase Made from 100% Recycled Plastic! We got it on TSC (The Shopping Channel) for $247 CND. My previous suitcase (which cost $300 for one piece!!!) was 10 years old and busted up from a trip to Australia. I picked silver but it's available in turquiose, pink, black, gold and red!
Here's the product description...
Our first in a series of ECO Friendly products, the EcoCase is made from 100% Recycled plastic. By utilizing recycled materials to create new durable goods, not only does it help to reduce the demand for new materials and new resources, but it also reduces materials that would otherwise fill a landfill, and all the while giving support to the Recycling industry as a whole, as with increased demand for recycled resources this encourages further development into Eco-Friendly industries making it more affordable and inspiring innovation.
The EcoCase is a Spinner luggage with 4 wheels that is very durable due to its flexible plastic material (ABS) to absorb impacts. It is also lightweight, expandable, and is our first hardside luggage to have special 'Piggy-Back' straps - which are usually found on soft-sided luggage only. It has a fully lined interior with a built-in divider with a mesh pocket, and an internal telescopic handle system with a push-button locking system.
If you can reduce the meat options at the reception it may further reduce the environmental impact.
Have you looked at using second-hand or vintage rings?
There are a number of used wedding dress websites. If you google search terms such as 'used' 'once wed' or 'pre-owned' you will probably find most of them.
All the Best!
