Cheap(er) centerpeice ideas

Im debating about ways to cut the budget.. our catering bills alone will take us broke! So instead of doing full blown centerpeices with a bunch of flowers I was trying to come up with other ideas.

I know I would like to use orchids, i was thinking about submerging them in water in 3 cylinder vases in different heights, put floating tealight candles in the vases with the flowers and then scattering tealights and more flowers around.

Buying loose flowers is still alot cheaper then paying a florist to make an expensive arrangement..

What do you guys think?

I was also debating going with something alot smaller and maybe putting oranges in a vase since our color scheme is orange and fushia. this is a tropical themed wedding by the water.

The last post has my heart.
Although, I am doing something more like the first. I am an orange bride too- you can check mine out if you want.

We are doing almost the same thing.  We are using one 16" cylinder vase on each table instead of three.  Fill with water, insert beautiful silk orchids (bought at Walmart!), drop a few crystals in, and sit on top of the black lighted vase base.  It's absolutely gorgeous!  Florists are just outrageous on their prices.  We spent about $22-$25 on each centerpiece, which some might find expensive, but we only need 10.

Oh, I forgot.  We have a 3" floating candle on top.

LOVE the first one...but how do you make sure they are submerged like that, spaced and such?  So pretty.  I like the last one too, very simple with a pop of color from the lily.  We are not using any flowers in our centerpieces...buggers still cost an arm and a leg though.  Good luck.

I like the firsdt idea. Check out amazon.com they have the three sized cylinder vases bundled already. I think for 36 that would be 12 of each size is 99.99. Of course that does not include flowers, and floating candles, however samsclub.com and fiftyflowers.com sale wholesale flowers and the floaters can be found at amazon also. It would total about $300 for 12 centerpieces. or possibly less.

I'm also doing something similar to the first one.  Love the idea, it'll look so nice.  Also you could use just the fushia orchids and get those loose petals from Michaels in the orange and scatter them around the centrepiece and the tealights.

I love the last one.. but our tables are round and im not sure it would look that great. I want something beachy and laid back..

you can still do the last one on round tables...i would just change out the square plate for a round, black charger plate...and you'd be fine.  I think the last one is great for a beach theme!!

I might see if I could go with a white one and spray paint it orange to go with our orange and pink theme.. I am also leaning towards flowers in centerpeices with oranges..So many choices!!!!

The last post is the most original and very beachy.
Everyone does the submerged orchids and floating candles (including me) although the traditional set of 3 run about $45 a set, too pricy for all of my centerpieces so I am only doing one set at the sign in table and the centerpieces will be like your #2 pic except with daisys since that is my theme flower which my florist is only charging me $15 a piece.

Orchids are expensive even in bulk at wholesale- I was totallypuzzled as to why my 1 stem of orchids and 1 stem of spray roses were 38$ until I researched orchids. 35$ a stem. Alstromeria might be an option and you can order cylinder vases at dollartree.com for 1$. Or dendrobin orchids they are smaller and cheaper.

I love this idea, are those special candles that float or just regular candles?
