save the dates

When should I send out the Save the date cards? how many months before the wedding? or do you just send them out sort of as an announcement?

invites are usually sent 2-3months in advance depending on whether it requires a lot of travel for your guests and/or falls during a holiday period.
Save the dates usually go out 4-6months in advance but really you can send them out as early as you like.

I created a wedding website and sent out the url 7months in advance of my wedding in place of a save the date which saved money and served to be far more informative than a simple save the date.

It really is up to you and your situation. With me, I will be sending my STD's out 11 months before because I have a lot of family that is out of country and they need to know well in advance. To be honest, I don't really see the point of sending save the dates 4 months before the wedding if they are just going to receive the invite one month later.... but that's just me. You can feel free to send them when ever. I don't think there is a specific time period to send it :)

My wedding is in eary Sept. and my STDM's are set to go out on the 15th of this month. The 10th of this month marks 6 months till our wedding day and with most of my family flying in from CT and NY I thought this would give them plenty of time.

Check out my page to see a proof of my STDM's ! I am super excited about them!!!!
