The Wedding
On my own..

I pretty much had planned that my FH and I would be paying for most of the wedding. My mom and I were looking around this weekend and she confirmed what I thought.. Were on our own..

My FFIL just remarried (she has 2 girls under 18 and I'm pretty sure their dad inst around..) plus she has 2 or 3 other kids and my FH has 2 younger brothers (I haven't meet her or her kids as everyone lives in south Missouri (I will be meeting them end of May though)).

Then the brides parents.. I know their supposed to pay for like everything right.. Both of my parents have health issues, over father's day in 2008 my dad was hospitalized for a blood clot in his leg and lung shortly after I had my appendix removed which my parents are nice enough to be paying for (haven't heard that I owe them.. yet) then on Wednesday my dad went back into the hospital, were not sure what that was all about, everything came back good. Not to mention that my ex brother in law did some things and now my wedding fund that my parents had saved up is gone... along with incase I need bail money or college money..

So that leaves my FH and me.. He is a full time body man (fixes smashed cars) and I am a full time student working about 15 hours as a waitress.. I plan to find a bartending job and also some other job (maybe Michaels, for a discount lol) this summer to save up..

Any great cost cutter ideas would be awesome!
Also for those Ebay ladies I am selling pretty much my entire closet on ebay to help us along.. I will be listing it towards the end of May my Ebay account name is the same as my WBC so check it out!

Good luck!  We are paying for everything ourselves as well, and it's not easy, but we'll do it.

We are paying for everything ourselves too. You'll figure things out. You just kind of find deals along the way. I spend a lot of time trying to find good deals and comparing prices. I do use Ebay a lot for wedding stuff. I'm also having to decide what is important and what's not. I'm letting some things go in order to pay for others. I'm not having a fabulous photographer or DJ becuase I just don't have the budget. It sucks, but you have to make a list of what's most important to you. I've had to let go of the "magazine wedding" dreams and get realistic. Good luck! If I find good deals I'll share them with you.

I paid for the wedding myself since my FI at that time was going to school full time and only working part-time. Both parents helped pay as much as they could but I paid the majority of it. I had to cut back as much as I could to get the place we wanted. I bought things along the way looking for cheap deals online and in stores.

The first thing I paid for was my wedding dress....After that I saved saved saved until I could pay for the grand total before the wedding. Most places will do monthly payments for you that you could work out with them.

Good luck and happy planning.

Good Luck! It it do-able to pay for a wedding on your own. Find a reception hall for a Friday (they are always so much cheaper). Or if you want a Saturday, make sure it's a place you can BYOB and food. That's what were are doing and it gives us total control over the price.

I have made almost everything by hand as far as the invitations, programs, seating cards, table numbers and decorations go. My mom has a hillside filled with oriental grasses that we're using as decoration in borrowed vases.

Most importantly, use your resources. Ask around for people who would be willing to do your flowers, photography and videography. We are very lucky and have been able to save so much money by asking around. Good luck!

Our total budget is $10k. We definitely went a little over with the price of my dress so more like $15k after everything adds up.

You could totally get him this book! It's filled with blanks for you to fill in about him. Like "I get a kick out of watching you ____" and stuff like that. But if you plan to do it I say do it well in advance because filling in all the blanks takes a while.

We don't exactly know what our budget is, but it might be $5000. Besides doing things yourself and asking friends to fill in with their talents (music, photography, hair, make-up, etc), I have 2 suggestions. First, see about holding the wedding on days other than Saturday (weekdays give a good discount, as does Sunday & Friday). You can get a fancier place for your money. Our wedding will be on a Sunday for this reason. Also, try to work with whatever is included at your site. If they only have black or white table linens, use one of those. If they include a basic bar, do that instead of a full bar. Basically, instead of trying to have the "platinum wedding" that you can't afford, work with what you can already get and don't worry about the extras. Most people only remember the brides gown, the length of the ceremony, the food and the entertainment/music.

Good luck and be sure to share your tips with us as you plan things!

Find out if anyone you know does cakes...a friend of my mothers is doing mine as a gift and that helps save money!  We are doing our ceremony and reception at the college where we met.  They told us that if we used them for catering that we wouldn't have to pay to rent the room for the reception room at all!  That cut out what we were expecting to be a big expense!  Look for unknown, but beautiful venues like a college or restaurant that may give you deals.  Also, but your own flowers from wholesalers online and arrange them yourself...it's much cheaper!  Hope that helped a little!  Good luck!
