Okay girls, I'm going to try a DIY project tonight! I love to bake and I've been told i make amazing cupcakes, so I thought- if I already know people enjoy my cupcakes, why not make my wedding cupcakes myself? I know it sounds CRAZY stressful...but my mom and I were discussing this and she thought maybe over the winter we could trial baking the cupcakes and then freezing them for about week and then thawing and icing them. Has anyone every tried this before? Im afraid they could end up tasting bad if we freeze them..but thats why we are going to trial it this winter. I just figure i can save about $500 if I can pull off doing it myself (with help of course from my mom) and if we can bake them a week before the wedding we might be able to actually pull it off!
But tonight's project is basically to see if I can trust myself to decorate the cupcakes, so I went to Michael's craft store and I bought some cake decorating items! Im so excited to try them! Wish my luck!!!
If anyone has done this before or has any advice I'd really appreciate it! :)
It was really fun. My hubby helped to keep me company. He kept the music going and even made the cake stands - painted clay pots/saucers white and attached a black ribbon around the edges (you can google clay pot centerpieces to get the idea)
We had tiered cupcakes on both sides of the cake (made the cake too)
Everyone was blown away that "we" made them - they had no idea and thought the location provided until of course they eat them. They were so delicious!
I say go for it.
