Ask a Question
bridesmaids ordering dresses late!

So, are anyone else's bridesmaids ordering their dresses late?

I have 8 bridesmaids, three of which are out-of-state. Only one of my bridesmaids has their dress already, and my wedding is only two months away! The other 7 girls have just now ordered them in the last week or two, and now they're having to pay a rush fee and also the dresses won't even come in until a week or two before the wedding. And then, what about alterations? I know of at least one that won't need any--her dress fit perfectly.

I know you can get speedy alterations depending on where you go, but would anyone else be mad about this?? I'm SO not a bridezilla what-so-ever, but I can feel the anger slowly bubbling. I've sent periodical "reminder" emails to all of the bridesmaids with very detailed instructions about the dress and where you can buy them on at least four separate occasions since November of last year. My wedding is in August, so they've known about the dress for a long time. Even if money was an issue, the dresses are only $139, and they could have been setting money aside if that was the case.

Any of you have similar issues, and if so, how'd you handle it?? I've tried being as nice and helpful about it as I can, but COME ON!!!

Sorry...had to rant...

Isnt that frustrating. My bridesmaids were notorious for that...I had to drop one from our wedding, the company discontinued the dress. I send an email and called all of them several times informing them that they needed to pay for the dresses by a specific date. They were only $125 well she didn't order it on time so I had to drop her from our wedding and I'm making her a hostess. She had 8 months to pay for it.

wow, you sound just like me... Our wedding is also in August and my maids all knew to get their dresses by April since like last summer but surprisingly only 2 have their dresses, three just ordered and the rest didnt' get it yet.  I'm not stressing over it b/c if they don't have it by the time of the wedding, they will not be in it.  Just don't stress too much.  I also have 8 girls in my wedding.

I did not want any problems so I took them shopping months ago had them pick the dresses they wanted I PAID in full and that was that.

Too many horror stories for me.  To avoid any problems I ordered and paid for shoes, purses and jewllery.

Their ONLY expense is alterations and undergarments.

ok that is not being 'bride-zilla'. i guess i define being 'bride-zilla' when you go crazy about something that doesnt even matter, but in your situation, you have every right to be upset!  i have to share my story with the dresses: i have 6 bridesmaids, and i asked everyone for an available date that we could all meet and order the dresses together (they all live in-state thankfully), so we set a date a MONTH in advance, each girl committed to being there.  Then, about a week before, I sent out a reminder and my MOH writes back and says, 'that's friday?! i thought it was a saturday!, i have to work!' everyone said they'd be there on that date, y she didnt look at a calendar before comitting, i dont know. i just wanted to get them a discount for ordering them at the same time.  so i just said whatever, order it when you can.  she gets her schedule changed, then the day of, she sends me a text saying "is it ok if i get measure first, i have a lot to do, unless there's someone else who has to get out of there first", (turns out she got tickets to a movie she didnt want to miss) again i was like whatever! it just seemed like she had no interest to be there for being my MOH.  It was a big deal because it was the first time all the girls would have a get together, and I would be able to show them my dress.

They ordered the dresses somewhat successfully and they all came in 2 months ago.  one of them waited about a month to pick hers up, but they measured her totally wrong but because she waited so long, she couldnt get a refund(i warned them about that) now she has to pay for those alterations. and one of them STILL hasnt picked hers up! i just asked her about it and she just laughed it off, like oops!.  i was so frustrated, but i didnt blow up, i just reminded her that she wont have much time for alterations if she doesnt get it in now....but i figure, she'll be the one to look rediculous if it doesnt fit, and there's nothing i can really do about it.

holy moly! thats a lot of bridesmaids lol... Glad I only have to deal with 4. It was five but I had to let one go because all she did was give me doubt. Wasn't sure about the date, Couldn't afford $78 for the dress and wanted me to wait and see how things panned out lol... Now to me thats cheap, $78 lol... I would be upset as well..

wow, I didn't realize a lot of you had the same situations going on!! I just really hope that the dresses all come in, and on time for any alterations to be done. at this point, if one dress or more doesn't make it in time, I'm just going to have to say they just can't be in my wedding. it's a shame, because they would have brought it on themselves; if only they didn't slack off and have just bought the darned dress!!  thanks for your stories/advice!! :)

Hi:

Well I just have two bridesmaids, and they have the dresses already.  I was about to get a third one, who said that she will call since April and haven't show up.  The problem is that if she show up in the last minute she won't find the dress the other two have.  So, I decided not to take her and just have the two bridesmaids, two flower girls, and some couples that as part of a traditional ceremony will be walking with me the same day, so I'm no worry about that.

I am having a MOH only and paid for her dress and is on its way with plenty of time to spare.  I am reading all these comments and can't help but think maybe some of these girls that dragged their feet either couldn't afford it (though you may think it is not expensive) or really do not want to be bothered with the whole wedding thing?  I don't know these girls but I would be asking them do you really want to do this or can you?  I pulled the plug on both my best friend and sister being my MOH as I knew neither were the types to do so.  I picked my favorite cousin as she loves weddings and knew she would want to do it.  Good luck getting these same girls to help close to the big day.

well the big thing with my BM's is that most (except for 2) are still in college, or going for their grad. degree's, so money is tight anyway, but they still should have saved up! luckily, all were ordered. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one having issues!
