I just made my reservation! (Which means we set a date!)
Now, I haven't paid the deposit yet becuase we are still getting the numbers and the paperwork together, but October 1, 2011 is on hold more me at the Chateau Resort and Conference Center in Tannersville, Pa in the Pocono mountains! When we saw this place it just felt right.

I always wanted to get married at my childhood home. The house faces two gorgeous ponds and I always thought they would be a great backdrop for my wedding. But, I am not too keen on having a wedding in a tent with no place to go if it gets rainy, and dealing with caterers and rentals and everything...so really getting married at my parents isn't a real option.

BUT, as you can see from the picture, The Chateau has a pond! (/lake, depending on how you look at it) and we can get married in front of that! I am so excited, I hope everything works out and that there are no kinks in the plans!

Pomanders!
A Trendy Little Touch
It seems that I, like everyone else, am in love with pomanders. I am thinking about using them to line the aisle and then bringing them in to decorate the backs of some of the chairs during the reception, or scattering them throughout the room here and there.

I'm torn as to whether to make this a DIY project with fake flowers, or to just have them made by the florist (I would probably have them made out of carnations because they are cheap and pretty). It will probably come down to a budget-based decision.

Wedding Flowers
I LOVE flowers!
People have been asking me what kind of flowers I want to have. I have a pretty clear idea about what I want the bouquets and centerpieces etc. to look like, and am fairly clear about the colors. The first picture here is the overall look I am going for for the bridesmaid bouquets and centerpieces.

I want big open, fluffy and soft flowers such as garden roses, cabbage roses, peonies (riiiight...in October...), freesia, anenomies, ranunculus, and carnations. I don't prefer bouquets that are composed of all one type of flower, and I don't like aything that looks like a collection of wild flowers.

For my bouquet, I am picturing something with the same texture and shape, but with white/ivory and pale pink flowers.

Our Current Choices
This past weekend we went to visit some possible locations to hold the wedding and/or reception. We were impressed with all three of them.

Chateau Resort and Conference Center: Our top choice! Best price, grand ballroom and perzonalized service! Its really everything we were looking for! (Now just to book it before someone else does!)

The Inn at Pocono Manor: A great option. Beautiful scenery and views, BUT they occasionally (rarely) book two weddings at once, and we don't want to share!

Split Rock Resort: Familiar and special to us, but the most expensive. The decor and building layout leave much to be desired. Still an option though...Plan C.

I'm really excited to get the okay from my parents to go ahead and book (yes, my parents are paying for the majority of the fiesta). Oct 2011 is booking fast and I don't want to miss out. The anxiety is killing me. I am a patient person for some things, but not when it comes to organizing and planning anything.

Ask a Question
How big of a room do I need?
We are looking at having 120ish guests. Our favorite venue has one room that is a little smaller (3240 sq ft) and a larger room (5000 sq ft). We prefer the larger room, but I think it might be too big.

We want a good size dance floor, but not too huge. 16x16 or 20x20 maybe.

Will the smaller room be too small? Will the bigger room be too big? ow many guests does everyone have and how big are our reception areas/dance floors?

Sorry there's no picture. Either my computer or this website is being funny.

Groom and Groomsmen
We are currently discussion what colors everyone should wear. Initially my FH was not into the idea of wearing a black tux with white vest and tie...but I think he might be coming around. That would be my favorite option. Other options we are discussing are:

Groom: Black Tux with white accessories
Groom: Black with grey
Groom: Grey with plum or burgundy
Groom: Grey with grey

Groomsmen: Black with plum
Groomsmen: Black with grey
Groomsmen: Grey with grey
Groomsmen: Grey with plum or burgundy

The color combination choice with be influenced by whether the girls wear grey or plum. Originally, my FH said he didn't want the groomsmen to have plum accessories, but I think one of his friends talked him in to accepting the idea.

I personally think that having the girls in grey and the guys in grey would be too much grey. Any opinions?

Color Samples and Supplies
I went to Jomar Fabric (discount fabric) here in Philly to get some sample fabric to use for different DIY projects and to use as color samples. With prices around $1 per yard, I couldn't help but go a little overboard.

As we (the FH and I) head back into our debate/discussion about wedding colors I thought it would be nice to have some sample fabrics on hand to show him exactly what colors I am talking about...maybe now he will be able to wrap his head around the fact that I mean plum NOT purple.

DIY Napkin Rings
So, I'm starting to think about what DIY projects I want to do for the wedding so I can start collecting supplies and stuff. I REALLY want napkin rings like the ones in the pictures here and I would like to do them myself.

These are made using a couple of different techniques. Something like the third one (the amber one) shouldn't be too hard to make if I can find the appropriate sprigs of beads. The second (green one) looks easyish too, just beads strung on wire wrapped around the large ring. The first (champagne) one is my favorite and of course would probably be the hardest to replicate.

Does anyone know of any DIY instructions for making something like these?

If all else fails, I'll probably string some beads of different shapes and styles on wire and wrap it around the napkin a couple of times.

Oh, I'm also looking for websites that sell beads for cheap. Any ideas?

Update:
Immediately after posting this, I found this 4th (christmas) napkin ring on womensday.com with simple instructions. It is very similar to what I am looking for and doesn't call for any special tools or supplies other than beads and wire. I think I might get some beads and wire and try this out and see how it looks.

Save-the-Dates
Vistaprint
Has anyone used Vistaprint to print their save-the-dates?

I have a very particular design that I want to use for my save-the-dates and would like to have them printed postcard-style to save on postage. Vistaprint seems to have better printing prices than Staples or Kinkos, but I can't find any useful info about shipping on their website. They do have an option where they will mail them for you which might be good.

So does anyone who used Vistaprint have any opinions on their service? Would you recommend them? Is the shipping outrageous?

Any other Pocono brides out there?
My FH was born and raised in Philadelphia, I am a country girl from Upstate New York. I wouldn't dream of marrying in the city, so we decided a long time ago that we would get married in the Pocono Mountains. We have a house and a timeshare there, plus it is halfway between my family and his.

Are there any other brides getting married in the Poconos? Can anyone suggest a good reception site or any good vendors? We are kind of located somewhere between Hazelton and Mt. Pocono.
