Pomander and Square Vase
Originally I wanted to just hang pomanders from the end chairs to decorate the aisle (as seen in the picture here). But something about it seems off to me. Just too perky to reflect who I am...

I wanted to do something that was a little more refined. So I thought, what about setting a round pomander atop a square vase (as seen in the other picture here but without anything in it). I like the juxtaposition of the round and the square and the height that the vase would give it.

The example in the picture here is of a centerpiece. I would want the vase to be larger as to be more proportional to the size of the pomander; I'm thinking an 8" square vase with a pomander that is just a bit larger, maybe 10" diameter.

I think these will look cute lining both sides of the aisle!

Now I just have to think about what color pomanders to have. Magenta? Burgundy? Purple? Plum? White? Or something with more Orange to bring in the fall leaves?

Just Some Ideas
I am going with my mom to a bridal salon on Saturday that carries the Jasmine line of BM dresses. I really am dying to see what their colors look like in real life (see previous post). I can't tell, but it looks from the website that the "Bordeaux" color is the closest to what I am looking for. I need to see the colors in person though because I am sure they are very different.

The pics here are some of my favorites from that designer.

Has anyone gone with a Jasmine dress and would know what color could best be described as "Plum"? If not, I guess I will find out on Saturday! :)

Losing My Mind!
I am Going "Plum" Crazy!
We drove all over Philadelphia this weekend looking for the exact shade of plum that I wanted and I found it on a BCBG dress, so of course I couldn't bring it home. Today I went to Target and I saw this $5 t-shirt and said to myself "That is the exact shade of plum! Perfect!". I bought the shirt thinking I would chop it up and send it out to my bridesmaids so they can see the color I am envisioning.

Well, i got the shirt home and lo and behold it looks totally different. i think. I compared the shirt to a shirt that I already had and they look the same! The shirt I had I had brought along this weekend with me and decided that it was too pink.

I am going out of my mind to find the right color. Every lighting situation makes the colors look totally different. Should I give up on trying to find that perfect shade? Maybe I should just find a dress in the color of the two shirts since I keep seeming to be drawn to it anyway.

I will bring the new shirt and the old shirt with me when I go BM dress shopping this weekend. Maybe it will look different in the bridal salon. Maybe I will compare them to the color swatches in the salon and be able to find that perfect shade. Maybe I will just lose my mind.

P.S. The color I am looking for is "Plum" and is more purple than the "Sangria" that they have at David's Bridal.

Wedding Cake
Just Some Cakes I Love
I do love cake :)

My wedding cake is included in my venue package. The venue rep said that they will do a standard cake in buttercream for the number of guests we have, but beyond that we have to pay for. No big deal. I don't really want fondant anyway. When I asked who the bakery was, she said "actually, its ShopRite" (a grocery store). I thought, ugh, but no big deal, maybe their cakes are good. Apparently they aren't. So now I'm thinking I might take the free cake from ShopRite (hey, its free) and buy one that it whatever I want. Or maybe have the grocery store do a silly grooms cake or something.

The first cake with the purple flower is my favorite ever! I loved it from the minute I saw it in Brides magazine.

Anyway, here are SOME of the many cakes I have seen that I like. In general, I like white-on-white cakes. Like white buttercream with white piping. I also don't mind a little color from fresh flowers or ribbon or something like that, but not colored fondant or icing.

Cake #1 has a quilted print on it, but I would use different flowers and colors.

Cake #4 is thanks to aimee114. Love the textue and the brooches!

Cake #6 is a little over the top with the sugar bubble, but I like them.

Cake #8 is from a WBC bride, but I don't remember who. Sorry!

Cake #16 is not really what I'm going for, but I like it.

I'm sorry if I stole a pic from you and didn't give you credit! Feel free to message me and I will give credit where it is deserved!

Ask a Question
Different Favors for Men and Women?
Is anyone doing different favors for men and women? If so, how are you giving them out so that the men get the guy favors and the women get the girl favors? (I wonder b/c all the favors I like, the FH says are too girly and he only likes masculine ones...he's a pain.)

I thought it would be easiest to attach an escort card to each one so that each favor was designated to each guest. But then, I also wanted to use the escort card to show what meal choice each guest opted for. The only way I can think to do both is to attach a color coded escort card/thank you tag to each favor. But then will people keep the tags displayed prominently enough for the waiters to see what meal each person chose?

For example: My mother would have a black tag with her name and table number attached to a female favor because she is a woman and ordered the meat dish. My dad would have a white tag attached to the male gift because he is a guy that ordered the chicken dish.

Gender-different favors might be too complicated. Am I making it too complicated? Should the just be names on the favors and names on the color coded escort cards?

Place cards would be the easiest option I think because then they could be color coded and the favors would all have the same tags. I don't really want to assign seats though.

Heading in the Right Direction
I went to David's Bridal this weekend to get an idea of what dresses look good on me and what styles I should avoid. I found some nice things, but certainly not the dress. I did rule out some styles and know some features my ideal dress will include. The pics here are 3 of the 4 styles that I liked best. One of them must be new because I can't find pics of it anywhere.

I want to wear bright white or a natural white, not ivory.
I liked the sweetheart neckline the best.
I like sleeveless or cap sleeves.
I definitely want a drop waist, but a-line would work too.
I like sparkle (even though I thought I wanted to avoid it).

I don't want frills or flounce.
I don't like ball gowns or anything with a natural waist.
I don't want a tiara.
I don't want people to say I look like a princess. No cinderella dresses for me!

We also looked at bridesmaid dresses there too. None of the colors were right and I wasn't really into any of the styles. Afterward we went to some department stores to see if we could find something the right color there. I found the PERFECT dress (BCBG) but it was way too expensive. But we did find an example of the perfect plum color and the perfect gray color. I could go with any one. I wanted to buy the dresses we tried on just to have the color samples!

The next step in BM dress shopping is to find out what colors are available through the different BM dress designers I like and to see if any of them will work.

Wedding Dress Shopping!
It's my first time looking and I'm so excited!
I have a friend coming in to town tomorrow to go gown shopping with me. I'm so excited!

We are going to start by just going to David's Bridal tomorrow to get an idea of what cuts and styles will work with my body and which won't. I really want to try and rule out some styles or shapes so that I can narrow down my search. All the dresses I like are so different from one another, it will take forever to search through them all for the right one.

Anyway, the dress in the picture is one of the ones from David's Bridal that I like and is actually one of my top choices of all the dresses I have seen. I just don't know if something like this will work with my body shape.

If nothing else, I want to determine tomorrow what shade of white looks best on me! (I am pretty pale with pink undertones)

We will also probably try on a handful of BM gowns, but I don't think that we will end up getting them from David's Bridal. They don't seen to have the styles I like in the colors I like. I am curious to see what their "Plum" color looks like in person though.

I am so excited! We have been postponing this trip for weeks due to weather, and now we finally get to go! Any tips for what to bring/wear/do/not do/ask/try on?

Wedding Flowers
Question: How do I find a florist?
How the HECK do I go about finding a florist? When I go to websites of local florist they all show the same pictures...premade bouquets that looks like 1-800-Flowers made them.

We are getting married out of town so it makes things a little more complicated. Do I just drive around town and look for florists? Do florists all have the same websites? I want a real florist who will design flowers for me, not just order them out of a catalog!

Inspiration
I already pretty much know exactly what I want for centerpieces.

Low silver vases with the same flowers used in the bridesmaid bouquets but with a little more greenery and some freesia (I don't think freesia will be in the BM bouquets)

I might alternate in some taller vases like the ones in the 1st and 3rd pictures. Taller, but not head level.

Votives around? Maybe, depends on the cost and my mood.

Regardless, the shape of the centerpieces will be just like the ones in these pictures. I think I will take these pics and the others I have to the florist and say "Here, use my colors and my flowers and recreate these".

At my friend's wedding they reused the BM bouquets as centerpieces and I think it looked great. I want to do that too if it will look alright.

Alternative to a Card Box?
I found a large glass lantern at Marshall's this weekend that is similar to the ones in the pictures but a little more ornate than the first and less ornate than the second. I thought it would be great to use as a card box. Its pretty big, maybe 12" across x 18" high. I think I would want to cut a slit in the top for the cards to be inserted through so that they don't all fall out when someone opens the door/side to put a card in.

I'll go back and look at it again this week to see if I think its something I might actually use.
