Ask a Question
How many Bridesmaids/Groomsman?

My FH and I were discussing how big we want our wedding. Pretty small. Not sure number wise at all. My concern at this moment is who to have as my bridesmaids. As sad as it sounds I don't have "girlfriends". I cannot think of a single girl that I can tell my wedding ideas to other than my mom. I have friendly acquaintances but not people I really want to be involved. Haha! I feel like such a hermit but I go to school full-time and am the only girl really in my work group at my job (I'm a DJ on the radio). Not to mention I'm only 20 surrounded by 50 year old men at work. I also work roughly 52 hours a week.
My friends are Zach's friends and we all are very close. Again I'm the only girl. I can think of 3 girls at most I could work up the gumption of asking. One of them is his 14 year old sister (whom I love to death, no problem there).
Zach has a min of 6 that he wants. He said he could figure out the 3 he wants eventually.

Anyone else have this concern?

I kind of know how you feel. I do not have many girlfriends and the ones that do live thousands of miles away in other countries. So we are only having girls in our wedding. My fiance doesn't have any friends [he's a loner :) ] and so my best friend is my Maid of Honor. My favorite cousin is my bridesmaid and my 2 year old daughter is our flower girl and that is it. No ring bearer and no groomsmen. So both my MOH and BM will walk with our daughter down the isle together

Oh that sounds like a great idea! At this point that was the only worry. I didn't want a bunch of girls that were just in the wedding to be there. It would have felt awkward. Everyone I want involved will be involved in other ways anyway c:

i know how you feel. i only have 4 bridesmaids... i dont want to look back 10 years from now and say why the hell did i have her in my wedding? so i chose my sister, sister in law to be, and 2 best friends that i know will be in my life years from now.  choose wisely! best of luck to you (:

I'm in the same boat as you are. I have lots of girls who are friends, but none that I hang out with all that much. I'm buying my time over the next 3 months or so to get closer to a few of them so I'm at the point where I feel that I'm not burdening them by being in my wedding. My FH has already asked 3 guys on his side, so I've got to come up with 3.

i had much the same problem. I only have 2 girlfriends I'm close to, whereas Chris originally wanted 9 groomsmen! We compromised on 4 each and I've been racking my brain for the other 2 BM's. I ended up asking one of my girlfriends who I'm not particularly close to, but she was sweet enough to ask me to her wedding in '07 when she barely even knew me. As for the other, I've resorted to asking one of my girlfriends who i love dearly, but I haven't seen in several years because we live in two different countries.

An alternative way to figuring out how many attendants is to estimate one attendant to every 50 guests. You don't HAVE to have ladies on your side- you could always have bridesmen.

sapphire2009, in that case I'm good with two! haha! I want a pretty small wedding between 100-120 guests at the very most... smaller if possible.

i'm totally in this same boat.  i'm going to be 20 at our wedding but i work with people who are older than me at one job and around my age at the other.  my fiance and i are extremely busy with work and school (i have two jobs, 19 credits and he has a job and 16 credits) and so we dont see friends often and the people we are closest to are at work...but i feel itd be awkward to ask them.  so im having a cousin, a friend from high school (or two) and possibly one of my sisters.  i also want to have my cousins sisters as my jr bridesmaid and flower girl.  not sure though...my fiance knows he wants his bro and possibly a cousin, and one of our mutual guy friends..we arent sure otherwise though!

We haven't quite decided on numbers yet but my FH has at least 4 guys he's really close to. I have 1 girl. Actually, I have a few guy friends that I would want to stand up with me. He has one girl that he would ask. We decided that since the rest of the wedding is going to be pretty nontraditional, we'll just ask those people closest to us regardless of gender and figure out who'll stand where later.

I definitely don't think you should pick people who aren't important in your life. Maybe if you had 3 and he had 6, each girl could have a guy on each arm!
