why so hard??

Why do weddings have to cost so much? Why can't it just be easier???

My FH and I are paying for most of the wedding by ourselves. My mom and stepdad said they would help with a little, my dad and stepmom paid for my dress and might be able to help with a little more, and his dad and mom are paying for the rehearsal dinner and flowers. So this will help, but still leaves most of it to us. We are hoping to stay right around 10,000. Which seems like so much but when you start adding everything up, not so much.

I've been trying to think of a million ways to cut costs. Our guest list is already pretty small...90 to 100 people. I'm planning on doing as much DIY as possible. Our ceremony is free and to put a tent up its only $750. The tent and tables and everything definitely adds up.

I've been searching for photographers and DJs that don't cost very much.

It is just all so frustrating. And it doesn't help that the FH is starting to freak out about money. We live 4 hours apart right now and he'll be moving here by August at the latest. He hasn't been able to find a job, which is why he hasn't moved yet, and he only has his part time job to transfer with. He is afraid that when he moves, he won't have enough money and he'll have to take money out of our wedding fund to help pay bills.
Him freaking out makes me stress out more.

Sorry for the vent...I just needed to get it out.

How are you all planning on saving money or not spending as much money?

Our wedding budget was 10,000 but it looks like it will take us 11,000 to make it all happen. I followed a few photographers on FB that were pretty new and less expensive and picked one. We found an amazing deal on a DJ through craigslist. DIY invites, favors and centerpieces, super small wedding party- all helped out!

I've heard this time and time again. The easiest way to keep the wedding budget low -- aside from certain DIY projects -- is the guest list. Food can be 50% of the budget, so that's where all that money goes -- especially if you're having a traditional reception sit down dinner.

We're budgeting for 10,000, but unless we win some things or get crazy deals, we'll be up to 15,000 -- still not bad though considering the average wedding is 22,000!

Thanks girls. I know the guest list is the number one thing. I mean, it is only 90-100 people and I don't think we could go lower than that. I have a huge family....that is only immediate family, aunts, uncles, 1st cousins. And our food isn't even costing that much because we're doing a BBQ buffet. I'm sure we'll figure it out. Thank you.

I'm babysitting for extra money and using that for our wedding.  Also, selling some stuff we dont use or want, and winning giveaways has helped us a TON!

seasidesmitten - I'm going to try and work a lot this summer while I'm not in class, I'm trying to get a child care job. Hopefully that will help.
I've looked for giveaways but haven't really been able to find any. Where do you look for those?

i have found the internet to be most helpful. Things seem to be a whole lot cheaper than at retail stores. Walmart has been my best friend with my 1,000 budget. It's super low but suprisingly enough it hasnt been too bad. I can relate to the fiance living so far away, mine is 5 and the job thing is stressful. Just keep looking online.

racheljustice2010 - thank you. I definitely have been looking online a lot. Google has become my new bff. haha. And I have been looking in stores like Walmart, Target, and Christmas tree shop where I know I can find stuff a lot cheaper. Thank you though. :) I know we will make it work it just gets a tad stressful! I did just a get a better job for the fall so I'll be able to save a lot more money so that is good!! Hope your planning keeps going well!
